Aaron Hernandez was born on November 6th, 1989. He was 6ft 2inches tall and weighed 245 pounds. Aaron Hernandez died when he hung himself in his prison cell. Aaron was a wide receiver, defensive end, and tight end for his high school team the Rams. His father Dennis died in 2006, which his mother said greatly affected him. In college Aaron chose to play for the University of Florida. He started 3 games for the Gators. “Hernandez finished his college career with 111 receptions for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns” (1). “In 2010 Aaron was drafted into the NFL. He was drafted by the Patriots, and played until 2012. His contract was renewed, and instead of $200,000 bonus, he got a $40 million bonus.”(2) One year later, Aaron Hernandez was found guilty of murdering Odin Lloyd. Aaron was sentenced to life in prison. And to go along with that he was accused of a “homicide in 2012 of …show more content…
Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.”(5) When Aaron Hernandez was arrested, he was removed from the Patriots team, and his merchandise was removed from endorsements such as Puma, and being removed from the EA game Madden NFL 25. You may be wondering, how was Aaron Hernandez affected by this disease CTE?
Well, one he was obviously messed up in the head. Aaron murdering Odin, and being apart of a double homicide are just 2 of a few. He was apart of a bar fight in 2007, and refused to pay the bill. Which resulted in him fighting and being escorted out by a bar employee. He was a suspect of a 2007 drive by shooting, which resulted in death for the 2 victims. It was believed that he tampered with evidence because his home was raided by police, and police believed that Aaron destroyed a phone, and a surveillance system. It was later discovered that he had one of the most severe cases of CTE in a young football player. “CTE is a disease that is found in people who have multiple head injuries, or play in sports that have contact.”(3) This was discovered because when he died, his family decided to donate his brain to the Boston University. They found that Aaron Hernandez had stage 3 out of 4 CTE. The stage of Aaron Hernandez CTE resulted in memory loss, aggressiveness, depression, and was not able to process information
properly. Obviously, he had, had CTE for a while because he murdered someone and was a suspect of homicide case which they later predicted was Aaron. [In that double homicide case, Aaron was found not guilty in April this year] It was pretty clear Aaron did not have CTE before his NFL or University career, because you need to have good grades, and be a good person to get into a University and play on their football team, or even get drafted to the NFL. Because Aaron Hernandez had died during trial, the charges against him such as the murder, and homicide were dropped due to a law in Connecticut. “With his CTE being discovered his family is now trying to sue the NFL for $20 Million, because they failed to prevent players from getting CTE.” “They have a case because, players whose careers concluded before July 2014 "gave up the right to sue the NFL Parties" unless they opted out, according to the settlement. Hernandez's last NFL game was in January 2013 before he was arrested. Aaron obviously didn’t opt out, so his daughter is now technically bound by the terms of the settlement, according to David Weinstein the former US Attorney.”(3) Most CTE cases involve men who died in the ages between 60-70 but this is not the case with Aaron. The NFL will now going to pretty much own up to this, whether they like it or not.
Can you imagine being convicted of first degree murder at only 17 years of age? Adnan Syed couldn't believe it either. In fact he was mortified when they charged him of brutally suffocating, his ex-girlfriend Hea Min Lee, to death. Adnan Syed was a pawn that the Baltimore detectives played with, a mere dupe to cast off as the true killer. Syed is like many Americans, he was never granted a fair trial. There is some actors that make Syed guilty, but perhaps it was just pure coincidence that got Adan wrapped up in this whole mess. One simply can't overlook the major factors that make him innocent enough to grant him a second trial. Adan has spent half of his life in prison, due to a wrongful conviction that happened many
Sports fans look up to athletes and inspire to resemble their favorite athlete. Peyton Manning inspired fans, by revolutionizing the quarterback position. Likewise, Tim Duncan entertained fans, by playing at a consistent level of greatness night in and night out. In addition, Joe Montana was the master of the comeback, leading his team for game-winning touchdowns under the most pressure. All of these amazing Hall of Fame players´ only possess a few of Tom Brady's traits that made him the greatest football player of all time. Thus Brady inspires many people to compete and be the best they can be, he also brought hope to sports fans which made Tom Brady a hero.
accomplished winning will take care of itself. In order to accomplish this task, Nick Saban also has to be a transformational leader to his team every year.
CTE is a progressive neurodegenerative disease which has not been found in football players until recently. It was stated in the episode, “Repetitive brain trauma starts this cascade of events in the brain that changes the way tau [protein] looks and behaves. It goes awry, it starts destroying the integrity of the brain cells.” Doctor Omalu’s discovery was the first hard evidence which proved playing football could cause permanent damage. This finding was not well received by the NFL and Omalu was met with attacks by the MTBI committee and the NFL as a whole.
Walter Payton also had a dark side, some journalists were writing that Walter was using drugs, and was one of the causes of his deaths. Payton most of the time was sober, and always passed drug tests (a lot of football players do drug tests, only because of suspicion. Another thing Walter Payton did that a lot of running backs have never done was he never really had any injuries, he participated in 98% of his games in his whole career. And once again in 1985, the Chicago Bears won the Super Bowl. And Walter Payton was awarded the Super Bowl MVP.
“I'm a pretty good winner. I'm a terrible loser, and I rub it in pretty good when I win”-Tom Brady (brainyquote.com). Tom Brady is the New England Patriots starting quarterback, and without a doubt he is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. In fact without him the Patriots would have never even went to a Super Bowl. Now that the Patriots have the legendary Tom Brady on their team they went to six Super Bowls and even won four. However Tom Brady wasn't always as good as he is now he started from the bottom like everyone else.
When he first got to the National Football League he was a back up to now hall of famer Brett Favre. This is where Aaron’s patience was tested most. Even though Brett Favre was getting towards the end of his career Aaron was only a late first round pick so he would have to wait until Brett retired or got injured. It took him three years before he got his shot. Brett went down in a game and Aaron seized the opportunity. And boy, was it worth the wait. In 2008 he led the Green Bay Packers to a Super Bowl win. After the 2010 season he was named Super Bowl’s most valuable player. And is on his way to the hall of fame. If he can wait three years of being over-shadowed by one of the greatest to play the game, there is no reason someone like you or me can’t make it big with a little
What would cause him to kill himself; did he have a motive? What is particularly strange is that Aaron was perceived to be “... looking forward to an opportunity for a second chance to prove his innocence” (Hanna and Levenson). Was there foul play involved in his suicide or did he truly kill himself? It turns out there may have been motive overall. According to Massachusetts law, Aaron Hernandez's legal saga ended when his life ended, meaning he died as an “innocent” man. In Massachusetts, there is a legal doctrine called abatement ab initio, “... if someone dies after a conviction but before the completion of their appeal, the person's legal records in that matter are wiped clean” (Johnson). Hernandez may have killed himself as a last attempt to provide for his family. Seeing as though, he died before the appeal was complete, he is now seen as a “free” man because he was never convicted. Technically Hernandez is no longer involution of the New England Patriots’ contract, because he was not convicted. Therefore, the Patriots may be legally obligated to pay Hernandez’s estate millions of dollars
Derrick Rose continues to have a interesting season with the New York Knicks as he continues to learn and execute the triangle offense.
There are many great people come from American baseball player, for example Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, etc.
How can you make an argument to dethrone a king whose legacy has been untouched for years? How can one touch an intangible mark in the world if no one has even come close to it? In the sport of basketball, Michael Jordan, a hall of fame inductee and a six time NBA champion, is a combination of the king and that intangible mark. He is known across the world as the greatest player ever, whose basketball level is unreachable thanks to his killer instinct, athleticism, and God given abilities. However, as of late, Lebron James, a four time MVP and a three time NBA champion, is being acknowledged for playing at a higher level than his competitors, resulting in others to believe that he is neck and neck with Jordan’s abilities. Even though Michael Jordan is the “G.O.A.T.”, Lebron James is better than Michael Jordan, making him the greatest basketball player of all time because of the impact he has on his team on and off the court, his shooting, and his playoff stats.
Although they bear some superficial similarities, the differences between Eli Manning and Peyton Manning are striking. When former NFL Player Tiki Barber stirred up a Manning debate, every word he said stuck. He stated “Eli is better than Peyton.” “Because of clutch,” Barber said this on the CBS Radio Network. “What matters in sports? It’s winning and losing. You get to the stage and what do you do? Eli’s gotten there and he’s won.” However, both quarterbacks have made it to the NFL, you do not do that without skill, passion and determination.
Lebron James, born in Akron Ohio, lived his life as a basketball star excelling past many of his teammates and opponents. Being raised by a single mother, he often moved very frequently and was even put into a foster home for two years (Meyer). Lebron started playing basketball when he entered middle school and started playing competitively. Soon he became known as one of the top players in his age group. Leading his Athletic Union team to the National Championship, and then as a freshman at St.Vincent-St. Mary High School, he averaged eighteen points per game and he led the Fighting Irish to an undefeated season and the state title. The following season, he raised his scoring average to 25.2 points per game, and his senior year he scored 31.6 points per game and took St. Vincent-St. Mary to its third state championship (Meyer). Lebron grew as a star through his childhood and has proven to be one of the most gifted players in the NBA.
If you don’t know who Kyrie Irving is, you probably don’t know much about basketball. Kyrie Irving is a superstar point guard in the National Basketball Association playing for the Boston Celtics. Kyrie is best known by his incredible ball handling skills, three point shooting, and amazing playmaking ability. Kyrie Irving is my most favorite basketball player in the world and I have many questions for him that I have always wanted to be answered.
Hernandez was still in the early stages of his career when he was convicted. In just three short seasons as a tight-end for the New England Patriots, Aaron tallied an impressive 1,956 receiving yards and 18 receiving touchdowns. (NFL.com) Aaron also played alongside Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and a great organization such as the New England Patriots. This would lead many to believe that even greater things would have come from his career had he continued to play. As a young and upcoming player in the NFL, Hernandez served as a role model to many young athletes and inspired them to make a career out of their passion as he did. By his performance on the field it would have been unknown that Aaron would have done something such as taking the life of another human being. Bill Cosby, Roman Polanski, and Aaron Hernandez all demonstrate how all people have good and evil sides. The good and evil things that each of these men have done show how they are not truly one, but are truly
