While Taylor Swift is a role model for her fans, she also has women that she looks up to. “I surround myself with smart, beautiful, passionate, driven, ambitious women. Other women who are killing it should motivate you, thrill you, challenge you and inspire you.” Though she is inspired and moved by strong women around her, she also makes one thing very clear. “The only thing I compare myself to it me, two years ago, or me one year ago.” With her main role model being who she wants to be, she still looks to other women as examples (Dickey). She gives back very often through donations, special appearances and through her fantastic stage performances. This year, Taylor made a donation of $50,000 to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, or CHOP. The money will go towards a high-tech music therapy cart for teens to create and produce their own music as they work through their cancer treatment. The money will also go much further to help the children in other areas (Taylor Swift Donates). In 2008, Taylor donated $100,000 to the Red Cross in order to help the victims of the Iowa flood. In 2010, she donated a generous $500,000 during a flood relief telethon hosted by WSMV, in response to Tennessee floods. Then in 2011, she performed a benefit concert for victims of tornados. The concert managed to raise more than a striking $750,000. Again, in the same year, she donated $250,000 to an Alabama football coach’s charity, Nick’s Kids, to aid in tornado relief. The health and safety of others isn’t all that Taylor cares about. In 2007 she launched a campaign to protect children from online predators. Fighting Internet sex crimes was important to her in order to protect young fans from the evils of technology in Internet sex crimes. Her dreams only became realities because of the hard work she put in and standing up for her beliefs. If Taylor hadn 't stuck her self-representation, and had been influenced by those around her, she may not have been as successful as she is today. Her strive to accomplish her dreams has inspired so many women around her. Girls that have grown up relating to her music are now seeing that she is fighting for gender equality. All those who listen to her lyrics, especially the lyrics in her new album, 1989, are hearing her opinions on being a strong woman. Even though she has been accomplishing her dreams, it hasn 't been easy. Taylor proves that even though people judge you, put you down or even humiliate you, you can always stand strong. Her ability to move past the opinions of others has made her admirable by many. One of the things that makes Taylor so strong is her belief that she should be her own role model. The woman that she wants to be in the future is whom she is working towards being. Recently, Taylor spoke up for women and shared that she is a feminist. She explains how she had never truly understood what being a feminist meant until she was older. She also explains how she thinks we should work to teach young girls what it means to stand up for gender equality.
