A Moment of Shock-Personal Narrative I ring the doorbell at my friend shazia's house while balancing my bookbag on one shoulder. This is one of the many days when my childhood friend Shazia and I have decided to study together for our upcoming semester finals Today the only difference is that we are studying at her house where there is always a lot of commotion because of her younger siblings. But I did not mind because I know Shazia is stuck babysitting her five year old brother, Hussein and three year old sister, Ailia due to her mom’s unexpected pregnancy; because of complications that had occurred her mom had to go to California for delivery. This had left Shazia who was always dependent on her mother incharge of everything. The door is opened hurriedly after three to four rings by a tired looking Shazia, she motions me to follow her to the kitchen where I see that she is trying to cook lunch for her brother and sister. A second later the house is filled with Shazia’s sister Ailia voice shouting “mom, mom”, subconsciously calling her mom while her brother Hussein is chasing her all over the house. After a lot of shouting by Shazia, Ailia and Hussein finally sit on the table to have their lunch. Looking at Shazia watching over her siblings, taking care of them and making them eat food in a way reminds me of a mom taking care of her children. Just then the phone rings and immediately Shazia, Hussein and Ailia run to get the phone saying, “it’s mom, it’s mom,” Shazia being the oldest gets the phone first and immediately her face brightens listening to her mom’s voice on the other end. To my surprise Shazia acts totally different with her mom on the phone, she tells her that everything is fine and her brother and sister are behaving very well, she does not want her mom to take any tension while she is having a baby. She hangs up excitedly telling her brother and sister that they will have a baby that they can play with very soon while telling me that her mom was about to leave for the hospital because of labor pains. We both pray silently in our hearts for Shazia's mom to be fine, the only thing that really bothered me in the back of my mind was why did her mom have to go to California for delivery?
