Presence -As anxiety is living in the future and depression is living in the past, mindfulness is living centered and focus on the moment.
Being mindful in all situations and at all times is not possible, necessary and in some cases productive. Select the times to be reflective, on automatic pilot or daydreaming.
Whenever possible, center before starting each day, and each meaningful task; take a moment to be mindfulness and focus. `
I recognize that everyone makes judgments, and to be sincerely present I must push away my assumptions and focus on what I see, hear and feel - I must remain objective.
Practice - Focusing only on the results and a job will get completed, exploring the path that leads to the goal will increase knowledge, opportunities, and better outcomes.
Practicing mindfulness helps me to spend more time on the important task and less on the mundane.
When I practice not making assumptions, I can build stronger relationships and be a better leader.

Each and every day I greet and/or compliment a different person with a smile just in case they’ve been having a bad day or haven’t heard anything positive in a while. In both Erin’s and Jamie’s school, there was a fundamental distrust of the students by the faculty and a fundamental distrust of the faculty by the students. This environment led to a disconnect between the faculty’s methods and the student’s needs. When Erin and Jamie began to trust their students, that trust was reciprocated in time. Trust in the classroom led to better behavior in the classroom, more interest by the students, and greater expectations of each student’s work. These three factors, based on trust, allowed both Erin’s and Jamie’s class to flourish.
a relaxed and open approach. This can be good in most instances but it does say that sometimes
The terms mindfulness and presence are often used interchangeably within the mental health field; however, without mindfulness the ability to be present may be null and void. Even though there are several references to mindfulness within research and literature (Bien, 2006; Cole & Ladas-Gaskin, 2007; Germer, 2005; Germer, Siegel, & Fulton, 2005; Hick, 2008; Linehan, 1993a, 1993b; Mace, 2008; McKay, Brantley, & Wood, 2007; Shapiro & Carlson, 2009), the expansive use of the term can lose its meaning. Originally based in Buddhist philosophy, mindfulness has been adapted by Western society and more specifically, within the counseling field. To be completely mindful is to be aware of the full range of experiences that exist in the present moment
Mindfulness involves accepting our thoughts and emotions without judgment, and without believing that there is a right or wrong way to feel in a given situation. Our thoughts and emotions are not labeled as good or bad. They are observed as simply happening until they pass. While practicing mindfulness one does not rehash the past or imagine the future. Attention is focused on what is being sensed in the present moment. There is a sense of self apart from things. Mindfulness is moment to moment awareness and purposefully placing attention on things that we wouldn’t normally give a second thought to. Mindfulness can be thought of as a way of being, rather than an activity. It is the awareness of wondering thoughts and purposefully directing them back, rather than letting them
As a pre-service teacher I aim to be a positive role model and instil respect and acceptance
We trust our teachers. We trust them to teach us. We trust them to show us the way. We want them to trust
To begin with, mindfulness is when someone can pay attention to the present moment “without being devoted to different points of view” (Martin, 1997). Along with staying focused on the present moment, mindfulness is when the particular person does not judge the current experience as the person tries to comprehend the present situation. Mindfulness makes a person reflect on one’s self by not only figuring out one’s thoughts, but also the feelings that go along with it. The complex nature of mindfulness demonstrates that it has multiple purposes that cultivates a person into realizing the potential of the brain (Davis & Hayes,
I would like to apply to the Master’s Program in Educational Leadership. My goal is to continue my studies and successfully achieve my career goal of becoming a College educational leader.
Two strengths I learned during my Self Awareness assessment were being a good listener and showing loyalty. I really try to be a good listener in all situations. I like to hear the whole story or complete process in whatever it may be. I am cautious about making decisions without having all the details. I don't mind taking the time out to get the details. Yes, it may take some time up front and may not lead to a quick decision but in the long run it prevents mistakes and errors as well as misjudging which can lead to more heartache and pain down the road. Loyalty is also very important to me in the work center. Knowing that you are devoted and committed to the success of the organization will motivate your people to do the same. They also need to know that they can come to you with a problem whether it is personal or work related. This will allow them to be more open to bringing problems to your attention that could later have a disastrous effect on the organization in the future. Both pers...
This habit involves staying true to yourself, expressing your opinions and ideas freely, but also keeping the feelings and ideas of others in mind, too. I try to balance being nice, yet assertive, during my role as a leader. This goes hand in hand with the habit called, Synergize. The utilization of team-work and open-mindedness allows everyone to gain new perceptions of the goal at hand. Although I may have ideas placed in my mind that I feel would work best for what our team is trying to achieve, the best solution to the problem is accepting everyone’s suggestion, then drawing on a conclusion that is agreed upon by the majority. This strategy produces a win-win scenario and expresses the drive for synergy. As expected, the habit to Put First Things First did not score as highly as many of the others. At times I find myself worrying about things out of my control in addition to taking on additional tasks that require me to overstretch myself. This is an area that I must work on in order to live a more balanced
Hence, what is mindfulness meditation? Mindfulness refers to the state of being attentive to and aware of what is taking place in the present with no judgment. Whereby, meditation is a spiritual and introspective practice involving components of both analysis and concentration as a part of a process of becoming aware of the present surroundings and the mind (Gordon et al., 2013). Meditation can also be defined as the practice of revolving your attention to a single phenomenon, which include focusing on the breathing,
10-Minute Mindfulness appeals to me because I am at a time in my life where peace and simplicity are my priority. The stresses of everyday living cause emotional, physical and mental harm. A lifestyle change is needed to prevent further harm; mindfulness is a lifestyle change that requires dedication, practice and openness. Learning to live in the present moment, not the past or future, is key to reducing stress and becoming aware of the triggers that bring discord. This book provides support, guidance and encouragement in learning to be mindful.
Living in the present allows me to live and tend to my thoughts and emotions that I often suppress or ignore. Working as a school counselor, I think that I will use mindfulness to help students with anxiety, behavior problems, and depression. I hope to use mindfulness in the future as I teach students how to use mindfulness in their own lives so that they can exist in the present and connect their mind with their body. Through using mindfulness in sessions with students and possibly in the classroom setting, I will give them a tool to help manage and become more self-aware of the thoughts and emotions they experience so they can learn how to better tend, express and manage them. However, without practicing mindfulness myself I would not have understood its power in the work of my client’s
The entire community plays an essential role in the growth and development of children within our community. As a school leader, building an inclusive school culture that is open and friendly to all stakeholders using a variety of effective methods is crucial. There is no magic formula to incorporating a positive school culture, much depends on the leadership of the campus. The leadership on campus cultivates the climate providing support and respect for everyone invested in the student’s education.
