Introduction
I have not always taken my classes online, I used to go to class every day and listen to the lectures given by my professors in person. I have had many great experiences with in class learning but I have also had some less than great experiences. Those experiences that were less than great were the classes where by the professor taught by lecture and test alone. The two experiences I am going to use as examples are very different form one another, one being a great learning example where the setting used an approach environment and the other being a poor example that used an avoidance environment.
Approach Environment Example
According to our text an approach environment is “a setting in which the customer feels comfortable and wants to spend time.” (Fisk, 2014) I took a management course in class last year and had a great experience. There were many elements that contributed to this class experience being an approach experience. First, there were no individual desks but groupings of tables and chairs. Before class started I could tell this class would encourage group interaction and discussions. Next I noticed that there were posters on the wall with interesting quotes, ideas, and mottos of different businesses. I was encouraged by this because I thought it would be a creative learning environment. Lastly was that the professor led the class in group discussions more than lectures,

A college could transform this element by only holding large classes in large rooms and teaching smaller classes in smaller rooms or library rooms.
Conclusion
The college experience has given me great examples of approach elements and environments as well as avoidance elements and environments. Transforming the negatives into neutrals or positives seems like it would be simple but would have a cost. Marketing these changes to prospective students and their parents would have challenges as well, not everyone understands forward thinking. I will say this, my grade was better in the class that had an approach environment and elements.
Engagement in classroom discussions influences positive engagement in the workplace by allowing the individual to be more social and attentive when put in the environment, and to also makes the environment a great place to work. Learning, like religion, is a social experience.” Currently, I have a class that I am enrolled in, often I find myself asking “Why I am in this class?” I learn nothing from this lady, her notes are continuously blurry, and every single student is unable to read them. She talks in circles and expects everyone to be able to follow. Personally, I wish I would have taken an online course for this particular class. Everything I have learned in this class has been solely self-taught. To be prepared for the class, I pre-read the chapter we will be having a discussion about in addition to study the curriculum, still I cannot keep up or understand what is coming out of her mouth. I also feel that I am not the only one in class that is completely lost, which makes me feel better about the whole situation. Whereas I am also enrolled in another class, which I adore and value every single minute. This particular class requires an hour and forty-five minutes a day for four days a week. To think this class I feared the most when I enrolled at the beginning of school. Surprisingly now, it is by far my favorite! I have learned so much information in such a little span of time. It is truly remarkable, the change of mind I have had towards this subject! Credit is due to my professor, she is outstanding! Then, of course, I have this class! Comp 1, which as you know is online. There has been struggles, as I think I would have learned better with face to face encounters with my peers and involved discussion with other students and a professor, although I think I have managed to keep my head above the water so far. This expectation of participation differs significantly from the face-to-face classroom, where the discussion can be dominated by one or more extroverted students, giving an illusion that the class is engaged.
An area of great contrast between the two forms of education regards the student experience. For example, students may enjoy taking tests or listening to lectures in the comfort of their own home. However, this poses a major disadvantage of not being able to ask questions as they naturally arise. An online student may have to wait around for their instructor to respond to an email, whereas being present in a classroom permits questions to be asked and answered on the spot. Most of the time, a student cannot learn at their own pace of the subject because the teacher has a schedule and other students so that student can easily fall behind or not feel as if they are learning. Also, if a student misses a class due to an illness or some other sort of reason they will get behind in classes, while with online class the student can still work while sick or the class will not move on without them. Some schools do not offer some classes that students wish to take. For example, some schools may not present a language class that the pupil wishes to take but online they have a better chance of being able to take that

An online class allows the students to work on their own time, whereas the traditional classes they have to stick with a schedule. There are many differences between taking an online class and a traditional class, time, communication, teacher-student ratio, time and the teaching methods. Others have been boring, overly strict, unapproachable, and at times unknowledgeable. I have learned valuable lessons from both. A positive and fun learning environment makes students want to be in the classroom. The first step in learning is that the children must want to be there.
Many students say online courses are convenient. Online courses allow students to plan according to their schedule, and the time and location that best works for them. Although online education may seem more “easier,” students should look at the cons of online education. In the feature article "Face-Face or Online Instruction? Face-Face is Better," the author, Arleen R. Bejerano, claims online courses take the students away from the college community and confines them to their home. The students no longer have interaction with the college community, which may cause them to miss out on some important opportunities. This may affect their possibility of succeeding to achieve a degree. In determining whether or not a learner will be successful with distance education, it is important to take these factors into consideration. Some courses, however, do take into consideration those students who aren’t naturally suited for distance learning. These students usually require more interaction between themselves and the teacher and more connection with their fellow students. They must make the technology that aids the learning process easier for the students to use (Sherry 1996, pp. 348). This way, all types of students can take advantage of certain aspects of distance education, such as the ability to learn any time and anywhere, that would be beneficial in their daily lives, even if their personality and learning characteristics aren’t completely suited for distance learning.
