The C-Walk
a. For our focus on this assignment, me and my group have chosen Dance Style. Under Dance Style, We’ve chosen to research about a style of dance known as the Crip Walk, or in other words, the C-Walk. Me and my group have chosen dance style as our focus because it has a lot a variation that me and my group are familiar with. Me and my group have some general knowledge behind the C-Walk, and because of it’s interesting history, we decided to choose that as our style of dance to research on.
b. The Crip Walk is under the genre of hip-hop, and is a dance that’s very intense, and is like a crossover of hip-hop and breakdancing. The dance consists of dance moves taken from different dances, and is basically just a collaboration packed with enthusiasm. Dancers wear really baggy clothes, like jeans and t-shirts when partaking in this dance
c. The C-Walk was first originated in the 1970s in Los Angeles, California by a gang known as the Crips, hence the name of the dance. The Crips were a violent gang, who had a rivalry against another gang that opposes them, known as the blood. The Bloods also have their own style of dance. The crips created this dance because they wanted to use it as a symbol of themselves, and they used it as a victory dance as a celebration for a kill. This dance has later in 1990s arose across the world as a hip-hop dance, and sparked the interest of hip-hop dancers. The dance is usually something done outdoors, or on the streets, and is very informal. There’s no correct order as to how the dance should be done. Next, the Rollin 60’s Crips are a subculture of the Crip gang. There are thousands of smaller gangs who are Crips, but are not all from the same neighborhoods. It always was weird to me that there could be hundreds of Crip gang members, but they don’t all get along when they’re from different neighborhoods even though they represent the same things. The documentary Crips and Bloods: Made in America, can be analyzed through three works: “Modern Theories of Criminality” by C.B. de Quirόs, “Broken Windows” by James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling and “Social Structure and Anomie” by Robert K. Merton.
In this paper I intend to show how Kody's early child hood and teenage years, both proceeding and during his life as a Crip, fit quite well with several theories that were discussed in class over the quarter.
The documentary “Rize” by David LaChapelle, focuses on the lives of Black Americans who live in South Central Los Angeles and the struggles they go through in their daily lives. Moreover the film also introduces two types of dancing groups that they have in the community. These dance groups are meant to keep the youths and children occupied and distracted from all the problems that have been going on in their community, such as the LA riot. The two styles of dancing are Clowning and Krumping. Clowning was created by Tommy the Clown in 1992. Tommy used to be a formal drug dealer, he went from having his life together to losing all his money and house. However, instead of doing nothing productive with his life, he decided to help his community by changing the lives of others through entertainment. In addition, not only did this dancing group help him get to a better place in life but also the group members are like his family. His main goal was to help put similes on people’s faces and help get some of these children and youths away from gangs. On the other hand, Krumping was also generated from Clowning, however Krumpers believe that their form of entertainment is different from clowning. Moreover, these dancing groups main focus is to distract the youths and children in the community by giving them the opportunity to do something they love, which is dancing. Furthermore, passion, spiritual connections and connection to the African culture are conveyed through the film by Clowning and Krumping.

Many Crips will also change words containing the letter B or choose another word to replace it, the best being a word with a C. This is due to their hatred of Bloods. If no word can reasonably be substituted, the letter B will be crossed out to show disrespect. Sometimes excessive use of the letter C also occurs, such as "be right baCC" to refrain from using the initials "ck" which stands for "Crip Killer." Also the letter B can be written Bk as in "Blood Killer."
This paper will cover issues that young minorities encounter in the movies; Crips and Bloods: Made in America (2008), Gran Torino (2008), A Better Life (2011). Movies will be summarize, and compare and contrast youths experienced. Criminological theories shall be utilized to further elaborate issues. Finally steps and theories will be utilized towards solving issues, also possible methods to correct the issues will be addressed in the end.

Dance is a type of recreation that is great fun, exercise and sport. Dance is the movement of the body usually to rhythms or music. It is a form of expression and can even be considered a way of non verbal communication.
The English colonists brought the dance to America and it was later published by Sir Roger de Coverley. It comes from a pre-Christian Irish dance called the Rincce Fadha. Couples come together in a long ways formation while the fiddler plays. Partners closest to the fiddler are the head partners and partners on the opposite end are the foot partners. Partners walk four steps toward each other and bow on the fourth step and take four steps back into place. Partners then walk forward again and grab the right are and swing clockwise and return to places and repeat on the left. Then partners pass right shoulders and take a step to the right and pass left shoulders going backwards. The head partners do eight slides to the foot partners then eight slides back. The head partners then do right elbow swings down the line with each partner. After getting to the end of the line, they slide back to the head. Typically called “Peel the Banana” head partners face front and the rest face a head partner in a single file line. The head partners turn to the left and walk towards the foot of the line while the rest follow. When they get to the foot they face each other and form the “Arch” by holding hands up together.
