Recommended: Brief history of the film industry

People go out to watch movies to escape from the tensions they have in their house or problems. To know what kind of movie they want to watch that’s when genre was introduced. First ever motion picture was released in 1890’s. From that day till now Films are known as the one of the best entertainment. I think making films is a way of telling a story, which you know, and you want other people to know that story too. The world is full of different mindsets.
The audience likes different kind of movies. This is how different genres were introduced. There are eleven main genres in the film.

- ADVENTURE
- COMEDY
- CRIME
- DRAMA
- HISTORICAL
- HORROR
- MUSICAL
- SCIENCE FICTION
- ROMANCE
- WAR
- WESTERN.

In this essay I am asked to compare two movies from the class and the movie I choose have two different genres. My point is not to prove that all other genres are wrong, it is to show the values of the genre Drama. The movie I chose is from 1988 called cinema Paradiso that was directed bye Giusseppe Tornatore. The genre of the movie is Drama. The movie I am going to compare is a fictional movie, which is after Earth directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

The movie Cinema Paradiso is story, which motivates people and that help people to understand what the world is about. The Drama genre is basically a direct message. The film has specific information to be shared by the audience. It takes audience to a real world. In a drama genre it is easy to come out and show what is going in your mind. I like cinema paradise because it grabs the attention of the people easily where as a fictional movie in which a different ind of world and mind sets are there. In after earth it is a futuristic. If I need to tell that which sound designing I liked in the movie so I wil l prefer after earth but my point is not to prove that if the sound is good or not it is about comparing different genres. I like cinema paradiso in a way that the movie is over all good. The story, the music, the text, the subtext and the lighting. I will talk about the lighting technique, which was done in a scene where Salvatore is on his bed with his girlfriend telling him about the phone call with information of Alfred’s death. The lighting is soft lighting because lighting was important in this shot to show the intense behavior and then the light coming from outside and cover his face expressions for a second.
