People go out to watch movies to escape from the tensions they have in their house or problems. To know what kind of movie they want to watch that’s when genre was introduced. First ever motion picture was released in 1890’s. From that day till now Films are known as the one of the best entertainment. I think making films is a way of telling a story, which you know, and you want other people to know that story too. The world is full of different mindsets.
The audience likes different kind of movies. This is how different genres were introduced. There are eleven main genres in the film.
- ACTION
- ADVENTURE
- COMEDY
- CRIME
- DRAMA
- HISTORICAL
- HORROR
- MUSICAL
- SCIENCE FICTION
- ROMANCE
- WAR
- WESTERN.
In this essay I am asked to compare two movies from the class and the movie I choose have two different genres. My point is not to prove that all other genres are wrong, it is to show the values of the genre Drama. The movie I chose is from 1988 called cinema Paradiso that was directed bye Giusseppe Tornatore. The genre of the movie is Drama. The movie I am going to compare is a fictional movie, which is after Earth directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
The movie Cinema Paradiso is story, which motivates people and that help people to understand what the world is about. The Drama genre is basically a direct message. The film has specific information to be shared by the audience. It takes audience to a real world. In a drama genre it is easy to come out and show what is going in your mind. I like cinema paradise because it grabs the attention of the people easily where as a fictional movie in which a different ind of world and mind sets are there. In after earth it is a futuristic. Non-fictional movies are the movies and the id...

...e the sound is good in the movie because new techniques have came and the sound really helped the movie go well. If I need to tell that which sound designing I liked in the movie so I wil l prefer after earth but my point is not to prove that if the sound is good or not it is about comparing different genres. I like cinema paradiso in a way that the movie is over all good. The story, the music, the text, the subtext and the lighting. I will talk about the lighting technique, which was done in a scene where Salvatore is on his bed with his girlfriend telling him about the phone call with information of Alfred’s death. The lighting is soft lighting because lighting was important in this shot to show the intense behavior and then the light coming from outside and cover his face expressions for a second. This shot has a complex

Last but not least, Genre is a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, and technique. Aside from the character structure the genre can be compared and contrasted in these two movies. The movie Bicycle Thieves genre is a mystery/crime and Big Deal on Madonna Street is a comedy. Even though the two movies are two different genres they do share similar set ups. Both movies are about the social issues of Italy but Big Deal on Madonna Street amplifies and spoofs Italians
The genre of the film is how we know what kind of film it is. Genre is a French word which literally means type; it shows what category a film comes under. There are certain factors in a genre which will identify it. Things like settings, characters and themes can all be similar in one specific genre.

Film and literature are two media forms that are so closely related, that we often forget there is a distinction between them. We often just view the movie as an extension of the book because most movies are based on novels or short stories. Because we are accustomed to this sequence of production, first the novel, then the motion picture, we often find ourselves making value judgments about a movie, based upon our feelings on the novel. It is this overlapping of the creative processes that prevents us from seeing movies as distinct and separate art forms from the novels they are based on.
Film scholars around the world agree that all genres of film are part of the “genre cycle”. This cycle contains four different stages that a specific genre goes through. These stages are: primitive, classic, revisionist, and parody. Each stage that the genre goes through brings something different to that genre’s meaning and what the audience expects. I believe that looking at the horror genre will be the most beneficial since it has clearly gone through each stage.
This implication is shown in all three studied films with Singin' In The Rain being a romantic musical, Grease being a coming of age musical and Hirspary being a coming of age drama musical. In Hirspray, the genre hybridisation is quite apparent with the racial inequality issues that are faced in the film along with the drama and coming of age aspect of the film. With the genre of being musical mixed with one or more genres it expands the target audience by bringing in people who enjoy coming of age films and drama films as well as those who are interested in Black Civil Rights. This expansion of genre also changes how musicals are viewed, not subjecting them to only being amusical but allowing them to be more by combining romance or comedy or other possible genres. The charcteristics of breaking into song and dance and the grand finale also effect genre hybridisation in films as they can change how a film pans out, with what the songs say and how the grande finale concludes the film, making it sad or happy ie. weither charcters graduate or not. In 'Singin' In The Rain' the romantic songs help to shape the film into a romantic musical hybrid, for example the grande finale of 'Hairspray' with the integration of black and white people shapes the filmas one that deals with Blck Civil Rights and also a drama musical. Genre hyrbridisations expansion of ausience and genre brings in more money for the director(s) and industry by how it provides a larger, more diverse audience that it would have been previously. Genre Hybridisation can make films extremely successful, as shown by the film 'Grease' which is now known known world wide, had massive soundtrack sales and is still popular
A genre is a type or category of film (or other work of art) that can be easily identified by specific elements of its plot, setting, mise en scène, character types, or style. (Goodykoontz, 2014) The gangster film is a sub-genre of the broader genre of crime film. A genre main objective is to classify the depiction of entertainment. The genre of my movie is a gangster film. My movie I chose was Scarface. Directed by Brian De Palma. An update of the 1932 film, Scarface (1983) follows gangster Tony Montana and his close friend Manny Ray from their trip on the Cuban Boat Lift for refugees to their arrival in Miami. (Scarface, 1983a)
Genres are ways of providing films with the intended associations. It is a convention in which people can refer to initially grasp the notion of a film, “for the vast publicity system that exists around filmmaking, genres are a simple way to characterize film. In fact, reviewers are often central in gathering and crystallizing notions about genres.” (Bordwell & Thompson, 2004: 110).
What makes people fascinated and amused to watch movies? I think all kinds of movies are, in there own way, great. Practically the excitement of horror movies, and science and technology of science fiction movies, and action and enthusiasm in the action movies are some credits that makes people’s engrossment. Even so could all movies create an entertainment and make people experience their thoughts of imaginations in the real world. What are the most interesting things about these film genres, which could establish a fantasy world for their fans to escape to their imaginations and live with it? Participating in suspense, adventure, mysteries, and discovery amuse audiences every time they watch films. There is specific film genres that have most of this attraction to the audience, which make them most likely to have all secretes of attraction in it. These films genres have changed our out look and make us thinks better, because it provides us with a source of leisure; these movies are horror movies, science fiction movies, and action movies.
During the course of this essay it is my intention to discuss the differences between Classical Hollywood and post-Classical Hollywood. Although these terms refer to theoretical movements of which they are not definitive it is my goal to show that they are applicable in a broad way to a cinema tradition that dominated Hollywood production between 1916 and 1960 and which also pervaded Western Mainstream Cinema (Classical Hollywood or Classic Narrative Cinema) and to the movement and changes that came about following this time period (Post-Classical or New Hollywood). I intend to do this by first analysing and defining aspects of Classical Hollywood and having done that, examining post classical at which time the relationship between them will become evident. It is my intention to reference films from both movements and also published texts relative to the subject matter. In order to illustrate the structures involved I will be writing about the subjects of genre and genre transformation, the representation of gender, postmodernism and the relationship between style, form and content.
Many people go to the movies. The movies are an escape into a fantasy world. Everyone has a different preference on what kind of movie is the best. Romance, horror, action, and comedy are different types of movies. The kind of movie someone goes to see can give clues to what kind of person they are.
Film genres are categories, classifications or groups of films that have a similar, familiar or instantly recognizable patterns, techniques or conventions that include one or more of the following: setting, content, themes, plot, motifs, styles, structures, situations, characters, and stars (filmsite.org and notes). There are many categories of film genre. These categories can cover practically any film ever made by man, although film categories can never be precise. By isolating the various elements in a film and categorizing them in genres, it is possible to easily evaluate a film within its genre and allow for meaningful comparisons and some judgements on greatness. Some genres are considered period-specific, occurring primarily in one time period. One such example is film noir (filmsite.org).
Movies are made with a broader audience in mind, and are used as a means of “escaping” and unwinding. They are made with a combination of a script and the world as their stage essentially. There are multitudes of different genres of movies, from romance, horror, action, suspense, the list goes on and on. Movies take place all over the world, in a myriad of different environnements. Movies seem to captivate emotion differently than plays, and I believe that is due to the polished look of a movie. The scenes and camera angles and timings are all rehearsed and edited to perfection. A play is a live performance, to a select audience, shown with more intimate intention. It’s typically showing for a select few nights, at one theatre. Compared to plays, the ultimate attraction to movies comes from the fantasy and relaxed elements a theater provides. You get to immerse yourself in characters that aren’t real, relate to situations that aren’t happening, and let your mind wonder. The movies are showing every day, at all times of the day, all around town. Movies have become “classics” and “Masterpieces” like old musicians and art pieces. Due to the era of technology movies are regarded more than just a longer TV show. People relate to them personally and hold great movies as works of
The entertainment that people use in the world has a very large variety. People would go from doing an outdoor activity to watching television. Entertainment soon impacted its way of use through technology such as video games and computers. The most common thing people love to do is watch movies. Movies have been out through for a very long time. The first movies were in black and white and did not have any sound. As time passed by the way of making movies changed to where sound was implemented then they made the movies in full color. Today movies have special effects that are that have made them very realistic. There are two ways people can watch movies and one is at home and the other is at a theatre. Watching a movie at home is better than watching a movie at the theatre. They both have similarities and differences between its
