A Case Study of Academic Integrity (case #5) Recently, more and more people choose study abroad to enrich their learning in order to obtain more opportunities for their future life. As we all know, academic integrity is not strangeness to us during our study period. “Most colleges and universities have academic integrity policies that are rule-based, defining what constitutes cheating, plagiarism, and forgery in the academic community and their consequences, ranging from getting no credit for an assignment to suspension of studies at the university” (Tammy, Dillon, & Camp, 2017, p. 1159). Before she begins her Master program, she need to prepare personal statement assignment for her PROV 502 class, but she plans to go to Orlando with her friends during her spring vacation. After her vocation she must finish her assignment so she decided reuse her personal statement when she was undergraduate student, someone help her finished a draft personal statement. She decided search some information online and edits this information to her personal statement draft, however she did not use citation anything, so her professor think she plagiarize information online and the statement of purpose by other people from her homeland …show more content…

There are lot of contributing factors can lead to plagiarism. Such as the weak of moral awareness does not make notice the seriousness of the consequence of plagiarism. (Gunnel & Rosander , 2009), and the lack of writing skills. For example, some international students do not have the advantage of writing when they came to other country to study, even a few of people don’t know how to use citation in their paper. (Monica & Quinn, 2000). Moreover, time limitation is also an important factor in plagiarism. (McCuen, 2008). Generally, the professor post assignment will base on time period, and this is lead to students have big pressure on their assignment. Based on this reason, some of students choose plagiarism.
