THE DAWN OF THE 4th INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

The 1st Industrial Revolution changed our economy and lives from an agrarian one to that dominated by industries and machinery, the 2nd aided mass production by the use of oil and electricity as for the third industrial revolution, information technology was used to automate production. The 4th Industrial Revolution is on the brink and is predicted to alter the system unlike any other before by involving the transformation of entire systems, across countries, companies, industries and society as a whole.

The 4th Industrial Revolution marks the age dominated by “cyber-physical systems” i.e. systems that integrate computation, networking and physical processes. Cyber physical systems combine communications, …show more content…

Some academic professionals believe that these technological developments are a part of the present 3rd industrial revolution however Klaus Schwab argues that due to its complexity, sheer and wide impact, coupled by its pace make them rather distinct.
“It builds on the digital revolution and combines multiple technologies that are leading to unprecedented paradigm shifts in the economy, business, society, and individually. It is not only changing the “what” and the “how” of doing things but also “who” we are.” Klaus Schwab.

The goal is no longer to modify the tasks we perform but rather to change ourselves within and how we view our natural surroundings. Optimists alike I believe that the 4th Industrial Revolution would serve to reverse the side-effects of all the previous revolutions on the lines of shifting to greener energy and creating safer yet more integrated working environments.

The revolution comes with its pros and cons. undoubtedly, the capability of advancing technology coming forth from the 4th industrial revolution has the potential to make even bigger changes and greater improvements on every aspect of our lives than the first three industrial revolutions
