I really enjoyed reading this book because it really helping me in my career profession. I really enjoyed reading the part about your job, your calling. Dan Miller really made me realize that a Good career decision have to be based on more than a causal look at the job opportunities, it is based on my skills, abilities, personality tendencies, values, dreams, and passions. It is so true that people make mistakes in choosing a career because they good at it. I know looking back over my life I made some mistakes in choosing jobs. I was doing something that look easy at the moment, and something to just get a pay check. I realize that God did not allow me to make those mistakes again; I had to learn to get back up. I realize now I am fulfilling the purpose God has given me on this earth is to help people who, are mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, hurt. My job is to help them get back up and find themselves and that is even if they have to start over. This can be helping individuals finding a career or getting a job, so they can get back on track with their life. I realize that success is more than a job, because I pray about my life, and I try to helping everyone who comes up to me. This book is a good book to help anyone who is getting discourage about making decision about their
It is safe to say that work comes in many different forms. Whether it be a fast food or a corporate, the people that surround an individual make a great impact on the way he or she may work. Singapore, by Mary Oliver, is about a young woman working as a custodian in an airport who although works alone, enjoys her work and the people she meets. Dorianne Laux’s What I Wouldn’t Do, introduces another young woman reviewing the jobs she has had throughout time and reflects on those that she liked and disliked. Hard Work, by Stephen Dunn, exemplifies a young boy working in a soda factory during his summer break. Searching for happiness in life and work is just what these individuals are doing.
The push for Congress to pass legislation protecting the rights of employees and their retirement was inevitable. Retirement plans are extremely important for all working individuals. Having funds to keep or exceed ones current standard of living and to enjoy one’s life beyond expectations after retire...
I really enjoyed reading this book. It truly gives you a lot to think about. I'm only in high school which doesn't give me much opportunity right now of getting a good job, even though I'm going to be in need of one since I'm having a baby. This book made me see that I better have a good education to get a good job or I'm not going to be able to take care of myself and a baby.
Many employees when looking for a job or deciding whether to stay with their current employment often considers the employee benefits the company offers.
This was a story about a man named Mike, and how he found God all over again. Though you may or may not believe in God himself, I believe this book would touch your heart regardless. Mike had been an upper class college student who was doing very well in his life. He had, money, an education, respect and overall he had a great life. He was considered a Christian and even attended a Christian collage. He had grown up in the church, and was what most people viewed as the perfect American citizen. Yet one day, while attending a church service themed of being the kind of person you say you are, he began to question himself. Was he actually being the person he said he was? Or was he just going on with life, and only focusing on what makes him happy? Is being a “good” Christian simply mean to go to a church and listen? To invest your money into different “Christian” organizations and to judge those that are different from you? Or is being the Cristian you say you are, mean to help out the people that we all ignore, and to actually rely on God, as opposed to going to him when you've ran out of choices? Those are just few of many things that Mike had began to question about his life.
Reading this book has gave me even more motivation to complete all of my goals in life. Bill Strickland never gave up on his dream and never let anything come in his way and stop him from completing his dream. No matter how hard is life was or if he had any obstacles in his way he still managed to be very successful in life. Bill has gone through some hard times while he was living in the ghetto at a young age, but after all the chaos he has dealt with he has become a very successful man and helped the lives of
To even begin to really love life and take forth all that it presents, its critical to decide what it is that one loves. With an impeccable role as a wealthy entrepreneur, Steve Jobs and his ideas should not be taken for granted. In the Commencement Address to Stanford University, Steve Jobs expresses that it’s essential to follow one’s dreams. Although Job’s ideas are somewhat cliche, he is speaking from experience and what he has witnessed. With the ideas that one should follow their heart, not settle at all costs, and that life is too short; Steve Jobs left the Stanford graduates with motivation to fulfill their personal yearnings and ambitions. For many, the idea that their dreams can be fulfilled is talk of fantasy,
My favorite part of the book was the chapter on “Ethics.” I believe my moral compass will guide me in the work place, amongst many other places. For example; the ENTJ, is said to be driven by success. If I do get into a corporate position or become a politician, I’m sure there will be bribes and offers that require me to compromise my beliefs for a move up “the ladder.” As a believing Christian I’ll be sure to look out for possible avenues of temptation although; I’m sure I won’t make such dreadful mistakes, the information I’ve gained from my research makes me want to be all the more
28 Days is about Gwen Cummings and how she spends her nights drinking and partying with her boyfriend, Jasper. Every day seems to mirror the previous day; drink and party. The movie begins with Gwen and Jasper waking up on a Saturday morning, still drunk from the night before. Gwen soon realizes it is her very proper sister, Lily’s, wedding day and they are late. Gwen ends up ruining Lily’s wedding by showing up late and disarrayed. She had a little too much to drink before giving her maid of honor speech and to top it all off, she knocked over the wedding cake. Intoxicated, she “borrows” the limousine to run to a cake store trying to make it up to her sister. On her way there, she crashes into a house. Gwen is then given the choice
Offering employee benefits is one way a company must competes in today’s marketplace to retain old employees and attracts new ones. These benefit packages may range from offering basic health insurance to additional discretionary and perk benefits such as vacation and retirement packages. Benefit packages are often a large portion of employee costs and Federal mandates require an employer to carry and offer certain benefits even if they offer nothing else. Federally required employee benefits make up approximately a quarter of the costs associated with employer offered benefit packages. Some of these mandated benefits include Social Security, Worker’s Compensation Insurance, and the Family Medical Leave Act.
My career path has been chosen for me through heredity, as my length of time on Earth has been pre-determined by the Great Creator. How I choose to use this time will be referred to as my success statement of life. How I am remembered will depend on what I accomplish. In short, life is given, but not guaranteed. We all have the choices before us, which determine if life is easy or difficult. Many times, I had the option of all or nothing, and for some reason chose all every time. In this paper, I will explore my present career as a manufacturing engineer, a career interest as a plant manager, and the value of a college education to organizations, customers, and myself.
Although Susan’s plan to “just do what her competitors are doing” (Nelson Education, 2013) may have not been the best approach to follow, it is in The Fit Stop’s best interest to match their compensation policy to those business’s similar to them. There is no need for The Fit Stop to lead with the best compensation options around, but lagging with the compensation could repel employees and could push them towards working for a competitor.

Everyone must surely have once experienced to be a worker in each person’s life. Worker can be defined as an individual who engaged oneself in a contract of service to perform specified works or tasks for an employer in an organization. According to Watson (2008), work is task-based activities that enable people to survive in the context of social and economic. Financial success in term of salary or wage is one of the driving forces which motivates worker to commit themselves in work. The traditional view of financial success literally depends on an individual worker to excel in his or her given job but with the requisite qualification and years of experience in that particular work there is every chance one is able to harness the material reward. There is no restriction for anyone to pursue a financial success if one has the endurance, capability and will to excel.
Organizations are working hard in today’s world of business, not only to remain competitive, but also to focus on stability and structure. Employees are the backbone of an organization. It is becoming more important to offer quality HRM programs to staff, in order to support the retention of trained and experienced staff. Employees have always been concerned with salary however, there is a new focus emerging that looks at compensation as a whole entity. Monetary wages are now just as important as other benefits such as paid time off, medical and dental offerings and retirement. This paper will discuss the importance of the total compensation program which includes many aspects, not just salary. Attention must be paid to equal pay, pay
