Since the beginning of human existence, humans have had the curiosity to learn new way of living. Teaching by the past generation to the next generation began a must in order to improve the way people have lived previously. A sort of schooling began to take place between families for future success. Fast forward to the 18th century when the first traditional schooling begins to take place. Although these were school were full of primarily white males, it was the next step in the education system. As people advance, so do the things around them including things like technology and education. Fast forward one more time to the current day and age. Most schooling systems are on a five day, Monday through Friday, schedule. The hours are roughly …show more content…
This leads to the idea of the four day school week. This is a Monday through Thursday schedule from eight in the morning to four thirty in the afternoon. It is then followed by a three day weekend. Some people and educators are opposed to this system, but President John F. Kennedy said it best when he said, “The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth.” This quotation tells us that it is not about the when and where of the learning, but more that teaching and learning need to happen at some point whether it be a five or four day school week. School districts across the United States should favor a four day school week over a five day school week because of the extreme financial benefits, improves both teacher and student attendance, and allows teachers more time to plan and collaborate their …show more content…
They would use the Friday to catch up on grading and to also look into the next week. They would make lesson plans and also have time to communicate effective strategies with other teachers. By giving teachers an extra day to improve, teachers would become a lot better at what they do. This would help students to better understand lessons and lectures that have been more thought out.
“Moving to a four-day school week………. allows teachers more time for planning and collaboration. Many teachers are using the day off for professional development and preparation for the upcoming week. They are able to research and put together higher quality lessons and activities. Furthermore, some schools are using the day off for structured collaboration where teachers work and plan together as a team.” (Meador,
A four day weekend gives everyone a day off, including most of the staff, which means that the school doesn’t have to pay certain staff one day, which means the school saves money. With one day without school, the district doesn't have to transport students to and from school, which saves money on gas. With one day times 32 weeks, that adds up to a
Colby Public Schools most certainly should switch to a four-day school week as it will lead to a saving of money, better in-depth interaction, and finally more family, friend, and work time. There are currently a number of schools who have made the brave move by switching from a five day school schedule to a four day schedule. In fact, The Education Commission has estimated that hundreds of districts in 17 states have made the transition. Also, there are state officials present within Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, and Oregon and all have reported increases in the four-day schedule. It is a movement that grows by the month and is the way forward in education. Colby Public Schools absolutely should transition
Students test scores are slipping because of 4-day school weeks.I believe we shouldn’t have a 4-day school week because studies have shown that schools with 4-day school weeks test scores have declined in 2012 and even more in 2013.Teachers from every school with 4-day school weeks say that kids don’t pay attention because they add 30 minutes to each class time during the 4-day school week.Courtney Fisher is a second grade teacher. She says that the students seem tired all the time and eat much more in class.
School provides a lot of work. There are eight total classes in a semester, and sometimes it can be hard to keep up with everything that school asks of its students. Because of all the work, students tend to ignore the requirements school has. (For example, students will ignore due dates or study suggestions.) However, taking Fridays off (and replacing the days with extra weeks of school) will provide success for the students.
The school systems are constantly changing. New ideas are being tossed back and forth between school boards all over the country. Now they’re tossing around the idea of having 4-day school weeks, rather than a normal 5 day school week. Some think it is a terrific idea, saves funding in the educational department. Others think that parents will have issues with it, having to deal with extra childcare cost, also how will the younger children deal with the longer school days. This issue will effect, not only parents, but teachers, school bus drivers, and students etc.
Imagine students becoming stressed with the abundant amount of homework they have to accomplish, complaining about the lack of time and fun enjoyable tasks they have to leave out. Currently, District 211 has a five day school week but having a four day school week eradicates these problems, which could have a positive mental and physical effect. Currently, the four day school week is being used in more than 120 school districts across the country, in states including including New Hampshire, Colorado, and New Mexico. Use of the four day school week also extends to several provinces in Canada, France, and Britain. Considering the amount of districts that are executing a four day school week it is most reasonable to assume that they have significant
Now days, normal American students go to school 5 days in a week. However, some places over the United States operate 4 days of school week system. Those school surprisingly observe positive changes. Therefore, American schools should operate 4 days of school week because schools can save their budget costs, and students can have more time to enjoy outdoor activities, pursue additional educational goals and improve academic achievement since students are in less stressful environment.
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. Replacing a normal school schedule for the four day school week can raise the school budget tremendously. (Hart, Demand Media).
Many schools like the one I used to go to have a four-day school week. Having a Monday or Friday off allows the school to schedule sporting events on the off day. We only had to go to school from 8 am to 3:15 pm. The longer day gave us more time in class and a day off school. Many schools are deciding if they want to switch to a four-day school week because it allows kids to plan for the week ahead, it is less stressful, and attendance rates increase.
In the United States, most school days are 5 days per week, with the weekends being breaks. This has been the normal format for quite some time now. But have you ever wondered what would happen if there were 4 days of school per week, and the benefits it has to students' overall health? 4 day weeks for schools have shown much improvement in the school environment and could also be a solution to the burnout and mental health problem that has been rising in our generation. Schools should switch the 5 school day format to 4 days a week because it is energy saving and improves children's mental health. Almost 900 school districts have adopted this new format in the United States.
Should We Adopt The 4-Day School Week? Imagine only having to go to school 4 days a week, for some kids that's a reality. Some topics I will be discussing in this paper are, where do students go on the Monday/Friday they have off, will the district save money without the extra day off, and how do kids perform in class without the extra day. The four day school week is a relatively new idea that some school are beginning to implement in rural areas.
Schools are so much a part of our society, so the accurate length of school days is extremely important. Public opinions on the length of the school days are different. There are a lot of parents and professors concerned that it is hard for children to go to school early in the morning and stay there the whole day. On the other side, some professors try to force students into a nine hour school day. Not so many years ago, school was a main part of my life, and the school days’ structure and length affected my social life and ability to study. From my own experience and some studies that I have seen, students benefit if school days are long.
Ever wanted to have an extra day to sleep in,rejuvenate, and spend time with your loving family. Or another choice would be to have more class time to finish those longs quizzes and classwork you can't take home. While on top of everything else it would be possible to increase the speed of your education learning, well now you can because of the ongoing debate at school it may be possible to gain all those things if they were to change our five school days into four school days with longer hours. Most of the benefits given may seem quite appealing as of this moment but there are the reasons not to vote four day. A very simple reason not to vote four day is just because there's no need absolute need to change it even if four day is better almost
Students went to school for five days a week. For students earn a spot of weekend school, they will go to school for the whole week. How they earn a spot for the weekend school is simple, like tossing a small piece of trash on the road. When a student either commits a small misbehavior against the school rules or receives a huge zero on different subjects. Then he or she would be the next candidate for the infamous Weekend School program. There are protests between students and teachers but the only victor is the teachers because they are the enforcers, the masters, and the second family of the students. They would be free of the weekend school in exchange if they reflect their action or did improve their studying, and then they can leave the weekend
That one day can relieve the stress of a busy week and make a student feel refreshed. A refreshed student will learn better than a stressed-out student. The same goes for a teacher. A teacher that has had that one extra day of rest can teach better than a stressed-out teacher because a well rested student will be more relaxed, calm, and patient. & nbsp; Although some people may think extending the school week will benefit the education level of the country I think otherwise. Extending the school week could actually hurt the education level of our country. Eliminating time for family, work, and relaxation will affect the attitudes of the students and teachers. Their
