In the United States, most school days are 5 days per week, with the weekends being breaks. This has been the normal format for quite some time now. But have you ever wondered what would happen if there were 4 days of school per week, and the benefits it has to students' overall health? 4 day weeks for schools have shown much improvement in the school environment and could also be a solution to the burnout and mental health problem that has been rising in our generation. Schools should switch the 5 school day format to 4 days a week because it is energy saving and improves children's mental health. A shorter school week means fewer days of intense academics, allowing everyone to recharge over the long weekend. (Graham, 2023) This evidence shows having 4 days of school instead of 5 can reduce burnout on students, and parents alike. Bullying is a huge reason why most teenagers and students are having deteriorating mental health. Having 4 days a week has shown a decrease in bullying. Results indicate that four-day school weeks decrease per-pupil bullying incidents by approximately 31% and per-pupil fighting incidents by approximately 27%, but have no detectable effect on other incident types, ACT scores, or attendance.
