Many schools like the one I used to go to have a four-day school week. Having a Monday or Friday off allows the school to schedule sporting events on the off day. We only had to go to school from 8 am to 3:15 pm. The longer day gave us more time in class and a day off school. Many schools are deciding if they want to switch to a four-day school week because it allows kids to plan for the week ahead, it is less stressful, and attendance rates increase. One of the reasons schools are changing to a four-day school week is because it allows teachers and students to plan for the week ahead. A shorter week gives students extra time to get schoolwork done and do extracurricular activities. (Anderson). It allows families to have a more flexible schedule …show more content…
(Bowman). They would be able to take a break and still be able to get tasks done (2023). It reduces the feeling of stress and burnout (2023). Furthermore, a four-day week can help with reducing stress. A four-day week can improve attendance rates. People have found that attendance rates have improved slightly (Irving). The longer weekend allows students to engage in activities and be well-rested, which can lead to better attendance during the week (2023). The rates are slightly higher but could increase over time (Peetz). Furthermore, a four-day week improves attendance rates and can improve over time. Having a four-day week can be beneficial, but the longer days can affect children's mental health. Also, longer days can make people's anxiety worse and cause more stress. However, there is more time on the weekends to calm down and prepare for the week ahead (2023). Less days of school can lead to less stress, anxiety attacks, and mental health issues (Singh). Many people get more stressed when they have constant pressure on them, but with an extra day off, they can be relieved. In conclusion, having a four-day school week allows students to relax and have less
When it comes to our children education, we always should pay extra attention to the decisions that we make, especially if the decisions that we’re going to make are weighty and could have an impact on our children educational performance. In Jaclyn Melicharek’s article “Four-Day School Weeks: The Rule to Skip School,” she makes several climes against the four-day school policy, which is a convenient policy that seem to pervade our schools nowadays. She believes four-day school policy is ineffective and rather harmful to our children, teachers and staff because it reduces our children educational performance, deter the academic value that our children are obtaining and shatter the lives of the teachers and the staff. I agree with Melicharek
A four day weekend gives everyone a day off, including most of the staff, which means that the school doesn’t have to pay certain staff one day, which means the school saves money. With one day without school, the district doesn't have to transport students to and from school, which saves money on gas. With one day times 32 weeks, that adds up to a
Students now have the opportunity to work another day to save for their future. The four-day school week also provides much more time for these children to spend and enjoy time with friends, and family, as well as enjoying extracurricular activities. There is a lovely environment for the children at the school and an extra day for the instructors to gain knowledge and a better understanding of their curriculum. The schools will be saving a varying amount of money that could be used in case of an emergency with money of any kind. Whether it is an emergency funding program, or money to fund an extracurricular activity. In conclusion, the four-day school week has proven itself to be a very effective form of education that Colby Public Schools most certainly should switch to within the coming
Students test scores are slipping because of 4-day school weeks.I believe we shouldn’t have a 4-day school week because studies have shown that schools with 4-day school weeks test scores have declined in 2012 and even more in 2013.Teachers from every school with 4-day school weeks say that kids don’t pay attention because they add 30 minutes to each class time during the 4-day school week.Courtney Fisher is a second grade teacher. She says that the students seem tired all the time and eat much more in class.
Students around the Nation have always pleaded to have no school on Fridays. In fact, for many schools around the nation, school on Friday has already been abolished. This letter is of regards to those who believe (and have not received) that school on Friday should be terminated! Students who go to school - whether it be elementary, middle, or high school - have always wanted less school. I, along with the rest, do believe that decreasing school days would be very beneficial for students as well as teachers.
The school systems are constantly changing. New ideas are being tossed back and forth between school boards all over the country. Now they’re tossing around the idea of having 4-day school weeks, rather than a normal 5 day school week. Some think it is a terrific idea, saves funding in the educational department. Others think that parents will have issues with it, having to deal with extra childcare cost, also how will the younger children deal with the longer school days. This issue will effect, not only parents, but teachers, school bus drivers, and students etc.
Imagine students becoming stressed with the abundant amount of homework they have to accomplish, complaining about the lack of time and fun enjoyable tasks they have to leave out. Currently, District 211 has a five day school week but having a four day school week eradicates these problems, which could have a positive mental and physical effect. Currently, the four day school week is being used in more than 120 school districts across the country, in states including including New Hampshire, Colorado, and New Mexico. Use of the four day school week also extends to several provinces in Canada, France, and Britain. Considering the amount of districts that are executing a four day school week it is most reasonable to assume that they have significant
Now days, normal American students go to school 5 days in a week. However, some places over the United States operate 4 days of school week system. Those school surprisingly observe positive changes. Therefore, American schools should operate 4 days of school week because schools can save their budget costs, and students can have more time to enjoy outdoor activities, pursue additional educational goals and improve academic achievement since students are in less stressful environment.
This is the biggest reason that school switch to a four day school week because it can save a school thousands of dollars. Schools can save on things like transportation, custodial pay, food costs, utility bills, and many other expenses. Since there is an extra day schools can save on not paying substitutes to come and fill in for teachers because teacher will more likely to be there every day. The Orlando Sentinel noted that the education board for Lake County School suggests that they have accounted for a four percent saving on food and transportation. The school also talks about that the teacher didn’t see a reduction in pay (Ritchie). The Tribune Business News reported that Deb Wanek, superintendent of Pelican Paids schools said that they have saved more than 100,000 dollars in savings since shortening the week. Wanek said “The four day week helps us immensely” (qtd. In Meier). Schools who have switched from a five day school week to a four day week have seen a decrease in the costs which helps the school out. Some schools are in financial debt and this can help them to get back on their feet. With the money schools save they can invest in other things to make their school a better environment. They can invest in a new school building, new classrooms new books a new gym whatever they feel like can enhance their school
Nearly nine hundred school districts in the U.S. have switched to four-day school weeks. School districts all over the U.S. have switched to four-day school weeks to save time. This schedule switch benefits the students and staff in many ways. School districts should switch to four-day school weeks because it improves attendance, saves money and time, and improves test scores. Schools should switch to four-day school weeks because it improves attendance.
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. Replacing a normal school schedule for the four day school week can raise the school budget tremendously. (Hart, Demand Media).
A shorter school week means fewer days of intense academics, allowing everyone to recharge over the long weekend. (Graham, 2023) This evidence shows having 4 days of school instead of 5 can reduce burnout on students, and parents alike. Bullying is a huge reason why most teenagers and students are having deteriorating mental health. Having 4 days a week has shown a decrease in bullying.
Title A four-day school week is beneficial to all community members, including parents, students, and school personnel. There have been improvements in studies, a free day for students to spend time with their families, pursue hobbies, do chores, and a designated day for student athletes to not miss any class time if they’re traveling somewhere for a game. Their school year is 146 days, compared to the norm of 180. Our family loves it," says Aimee Kroneberger. The five day school week has been the most traditional way of teaching in all schools around the world, but recently that has changed, due to the four-day school week.
Schools are so much a part of our society, so the accurate length of school days is extremely important. Public opinions on the length of the school days are different. There are a lot of parents and professors concerned that it is hard for children to go to school early in the morning and stay there the whole day. On the other side, some professors try to force students into a nine hour school day. Not so many years ago, school was a main part of my life, and the school days’ structure and length affected my social life and ability to study. From my own experience and some studies that I have seen, students benefit if school days are long.
That one day can relieve the stress of a busy week and make a student feel refreshed. A refreshed student will learn better than a stressed-out student. The same goes for a teacher. A teacher that has had that one extra day of rest can teach better than a stressed-out teacher because a well rested student will be more relaxed, calm, and patient. & nbsp; Although some people may think extending the school week will benefit the education level of the country I think otherwise. Extending the school week could actually hurt the education level of our country. Eliminating time for family, work, and relaxation will affect the attitudes of the students and teachers. Their
