23andme is a company in the biotechnology industry that started in April of 2006 by founders Linda Avey, Paul Cusenza, and Anne Wojcicki. Linda Avey is a biologist and co founder of Curious, Inc, which designs and builds IOS, Android, web, client and embedded systems for a variety of clients. She has a BA at Augustana University as well as 20 years of experience in sales and business development in biopharmaceuticals. Anne Wojcicki is an entrepreneur that began her career as a healthcare consultant at Passport Capital. Paul Cusenza has served as the Chairman and CEO of Nodal Exchange LLC, Senior VP of marketing and alliance management at Perlegen Sciences, Inc.

Founder Cusenza left 23andme in 2007 and went on to become the CEO of Nodal Exchange the next year. In 2009, Avey also left and co-founded Curious, Inc. in the years following. In 2012, 23andme had a capital of $52.6 million and raised $50 million more in a Series D venture round, and in 2015, raised another $115 million in a series E venture round. With this support from Google and venture capitalists, Wojcicki was able to refine the technologies necessary to provide accurate genetic test results to her customers. By the summer of 2015, the company had over 1,000,000 users, and 2,000,000 users by 2017. They have raised enough money to develop technology that is accurate and reliable, and have now gained partial approval from the FDA, increasing their credibility. Although 23andme has a large user base that keeps expanding and can eventually spread to virtually the entire globe, the thing that will keep them from growing is the fact that once a customer sends their saliva to 23andme and receives their results, they will have little to no reason to ever use this service again because they will (hopefully) receive the same results every time they send in their saliva.
