Point Loma Nazarene University is a private, Christian Institute that offers high education while developing students on their spiritual journeys. The university has an established community living agreement in which all incoming students must accept and abide by while furthering their education. Students who attend PLNU are expected to reflect pure, Christian values, which are guided by the Holy Spirit.
Linda Lee, the author of “The Case against college”, uses rhetorical devices to sway the readers opinions. Most people can agree college is very important, while others have different opinions. Lee believes not everyone needs a higher education. She is forgetting the reason college is so important and why so many people receive a college education. Everyone should attend college, college graduates make more money, have more job opportunities, become more independent, and have more stability.
Many are the characteristics of a student and undoubtedly being a student is a hard journey full of ups and downs and delights and worries. In the 1960s black student unions were created as a stepping stone for African Americans everywhere to voice their social concern and culture on college campuses everywhere. The black student union created in September of 2015 on Post University’s Campus was created to address pressing social issues in the black community while bridging the gap between all races through education. The institutional type, mission, and governance can influence the work of a student affairs practitioner in different facets. It is also important to note that all areas are interrelated to each other. To know and understand the type of governance and mission an institution has, first you need to know what the institutional type is. According to Levin "institutional type may constitute one of the most influential variables in how colleges and universities operate, in their purposes, their student bodies, and their outcomes."(p.50) The institutional type can influence the work of a student affairs practitioner because institutions come in a variety of sizes, serve different student populations, and are required to follow public or private regulations. This is only a few of the criteria that make up an institutional type. This can have either a positive or negative effect on the work of the student affairs practitioner because this shape's the work environment that a person will be maneuvering through. For example, "Most liberal art's colleges are small, and this impact professional's life in a number of ways. First, there are limited numbers of staff, student affair administrators have both primary and ancillary job responsibilities (for example, residence hall director and assistant director of student activities). Staff numbers are small, practitioners at these colleges tend to work very collaboratively- they need to rely on one another if large-scale programs are to succeed. As a result, they operate much like a family and know each other personally and professionally."(p.30) This requires a supportive environment. It
Even though I received “satisfactory” grades in Calculus III and IV, the compassionate Graceland University faculty helped me recalibrate. From an early age I knew that I wanted to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics, but my instructors’ patience and wisdom inspired me to become a mathematics professor. In addition to providing a supportive environment for my future students, I wish to encourage them to seek a life of curiosity and learning. Since my decision to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics, I have accumulated academic experiences that will provide a stable foundation for my future.
As a new freshman entering this Community College, you will be discovering and experiencing many new things about the world in which you live and yourself. The jump from high school to college can be a very scary but exciting experience. I have some valuable advice for you on how to make this transition smoother and an enjoyable experience rather than a scary and lonely one.
Being a highschool student in the 1980’s, Amy describes how she kept herself entertained. She describes that new technology has changed the way people keep themselves entertained from the ways that she kept herself entertained.
During our search for possible solutions to this problem, we used several research tactics. These tactics included distributing a student survey on campus, conducting personal interviews with the co-advisors and officers to the Business Society, and also with students who were involved in past years. We also researched journal articles and made contact with department heads to show the significance of student involvement in on campus activities.
Social Media has become a very essential tool in the society; in addition, it has a huge impact on communication and learning process. Social media is defined as websites and applications used for social networking. “As of September 2013, seventy-one percent of online adult use Facebook, eighteen percent use Twitter and seventeen percent use Instagram, twenty-two percent use PInterest, and another twenty-two percent use LinkedIn. (PewReasearch, 2013). In addition, "Between February 2005 and August 2006, the use of social networking sites among young adult internet user ages eighteen and twenty-nine jumped from nine percent to forty-nine percent. The usage of social media had grown drastically.” On social media sites like these, users may develop biographical profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research, and share thoughts, photos, music, links, and more” (Socialnetworking.procon,2012). Social media has impacted everyone in several different ways. In this present time, majority of college student use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Social media has a bold impact college student's grades, social interactions, and the teaching and learning process.
People behavior, personality, and character basically were shaped based on their background life. Most of our life, we spend more time in high school and in university as we become a student for about half of our lifetime. All the activities that we do every day in school and university will be as our habit and eventually lead to our development in behavior, personality, and character.The different between training that we will have and the social relationship among the people in high school and in the university will determine the kind of person that we will be.
