Some people are meant to live happily ever after while others may not be so lucky. Romeo and Juliet ended up being one of those not so lucky couples. Born as enemies, their love ended up pulling them closer to their destiny which was proven to be death. The main people that can be blamed for the death of Romeo and Juliet are Juliet, Friar Lawrence, and Romeo. Juliet is one of the main people to blame for her and Romeo’s death. In Act 5, Scene 3, Romeo states, “Thy drugs are quick. This with a kiss I die.” This reveals that he killed himself to be with her, not knowing that she was faking her death to avoid marrying Paris. Another reason Juliet is to blame for their death is shown when she says “O, think’st thou we shall ever meet again?”, after Romeo’s banishment showing that she just let him go It can be argued that Benvolio may have influenced the deaths more. In Act 3, Scene 1 Romeo commands Benvolio saying “Draw, Benvolio, beat down their weapons,” yet Benvolio fails to join in which leads to the death of Mercutio, Romeo killing Tybalt, and eventually, the death of Romeo and Juliet. It may also be argued that it was Friar John’s fault that they died. In Act 5, Scene 2, Friar John says “I could not send it,” talking about the letter informing Romeo about the plan to fake Juliet’s death which led Romeo to think she was dead and kill himself and her waking up and killing herself. Although people may believe that Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence aren’t the main people to lead to their deaths at the end, they are wrong because Romeo and Juliet weren’t forced to kill themselves and Friar Lawrence’s plan is what led directly to their
But, once reading the book thoroughly and consulting several sources, it is obvious who is solely to blame- Friar Lawrence. Because of the actions of Friar Lawrence, the play ended with two grieving families instead of two happy newlyweds. Although many characters contributed to their deaths, only Friar Lawrence was solely responsible for them. Friar Lawrence’s cowardice, secrecy, and miscommunication led directly to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The first factor that played a key part in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is the fact that Friar Lawrence was a coward.
While reading Shakespeare's play “Romeo and Juliet” it is easy to see that everybody in the story is at fault for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Personally however, I believe that three of the main characters are more at fault then the other characters. First is Mercutio, Romeo’s best friend. Next is Benvolio, nephew of Lord Montague and Romeo’s other friend. Last is Friar Lawrence, Romeo and Juliet Franciscan Priest. In a story of unorthodox love, family feuding, and violence, many are at blame for the deaths.
Who is responsible for their deaths? It is very easy to come to a conclusion and blame the parents, but every character needs to be considered before making a decision. Benvolio is a great friend to Romeo. Throughout the play Shakespeare gives him the role as a peacemaker, who is always honest and reliable, but there is a hint of weakness, early in the play because he persuades Romeo to gatecrash the Capulet Ball, even though he has the best interests of Romeo at heart, it is were he meets Juliet which is fate working against them.
Romeo and Juliet was a tragedy, but it did not have to be. Many things could have been done to prevent their deaths. Many characters contributed to their deaths. The sole character that was responsible for their deaths is Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence is responsible for the deaths of the lovers because he was secretive with their relationship, he was unable communicate effectively, and he had a cowardly persona.
The reason of Romeo and Juliet’s death were the family feud , Capulet , and Paris. These things made Romeo and Juliet kill themselves because they could not live without each other. The feud banned Romeo and Juliet from being together. Capulet tells Juliet that she had to marry someone she did not love. Paris wanting to marry Juliet comes between her and Romeo. In three days the whole town of Verona would change forever just because of two teenagers falling in love.
So it is likely that Shakespeare meant for fate to be the cause of Romeo and Juliet's death. I think that the family feud is the main cause for the death of Romeo and Juliet. If the families were not so hateful towards each other Romeo and Juliet would not have kept there love for each other a secret, and they would have no need for committing suicide. This also backs up the point that fate could be to blame for their deaths.
Romeo and Juliet died for they're love, they did everything they could to stay together as lovers. They're deaths wasn't planned it was all in the hands of one person. In my perspective Friar Laurence was the main blame for the death of the couple. I believe this because if Friar Laurence could have went to the families and told them that the feud between them would have to end. Everyone trusted Friar Laurence, if he would've asked them to stop there's a good chance Romeo and Juliet would still be alive.

There have been lots of tragic deaths throughout this play, I have many characters in mind to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s tragic demise. Some are responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death, some are responsible for Mercutio and Tybalt’s death, or even Lady Montague’s death. But all of the characters that I have in mind are in some way responsible for both Romeo and Juliet’s death.
Everyone knows of the young teenage couple, Romeo and Juliet, but some just know how their lives ended. Some may think that they were all to blame, it being their own decision, but there were outside forces attacking these young lovers, that led to them taking their lives. In the end, Romeo is responsible for five deaths, Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris, Juliet and himself. Juliet kills herself because she is under different circumstances and does what she feels is the only option left. Juliet is courageous and strong in seeking advice and not being overly sensitive.
