Video games have many different genres. One must understand that there are different types of video games, in order to understand the effects of them. Each genre of video game will affect each person differently. However, before diving into the world of video games, a question must be asked, which is: what exactly are video games? Video games to some people are, “ any kind of digital, interactive experience, primarily emphasized through visual means.” (DocSeuss) Phrasing it lightly, a video game is game that is digital and is experienced through “interactive means.” The person is being engaged in the game. One extreme example of the negative effects video games is that people who play them are “associated with a higher risk for seizures than those who do not,” (Nall). Seizures are very serious and should be treated with caution. Perhaps a more in depth study would give more insight into the matter. The solution is moderation. Some people that play video games will skip “physical activity in favor of hours spent playing video games can contribute to obesity in children,” (Nall). Obesity in extreme cases can increase. By, “Being overweight increases a child's risk of developing type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other health concerns.” (Nall). Diabetes is a serious condition, and if not treated correctly, can result in death. People have to remember to take care of themselves. It does not help that people spend hours on end playing video games; they do not get the necessary exercise a person needs by sitting in front of a game playing with a hand held controller, which involves literally no exercise at all. If it was just a video game that made one move then that would be a different story. By playing too many video games one can also experience, “nerve compression and numbness in hands, elbows and shoulders.” (Arshi) Playing video games too long in an excessive amount of time can damage a person’s body in many different ways. If there is not moderation involved the damage can sometimes be permanent. Moderation is key when playing video games. By playing too much, one can experience long term negative physical effects. It is okay that there are negative effects of video games because there are positive effects that counteract the negative effects, also having moderation counteracts the negative
