In ancient Greece there were Greek Gods and Goddesses. The Gods and Goddesses consist of Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter, Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis, Dionysus, Ares, Athena, Hermes, and Hephaestus. Each of these Gods and Goddesses had important different roles. Zeus was the king of the Gods. He was the god of sky, thunder/lightning, law, order, and justice. Zeus was the father of gods and men. His most powerful weapon was the power bolt and his symbol was the thunder bolt. Greeks thought lightning strike was a sign of Zeus. He became king of the gods by winning a battle with help of his brothers and sisters against Cronos, his father. Poseidon was the god of sea. He was also the god of earthquakes, storms, and horses. She was also goddess of sacred law, fertility, and harvest. She can be associated with the underworld. Her symbols were the mature women and grain. She was kidnapped by Hades. Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty. Hephaestus is her husband, but she was in love with Ares. Her symbol was doves. She was born from the sea. Apollo was the god of music, poetry, art, oracles, archery, medicine, plaque, sun, light, and knowledge. His symbol in war was the the bow, but in peace it was the lyre. He was the twin brother to Artemis. He could spread disease with his arrows. Artemis was the virginal goddess of hunt and was the sister of Apollo. She was the goddess of wild animals. She had the ability to send death to mortals, but she could also heal them. Her symbol was the bow and arrow. There was a huge sanctuary dedicated to Artemis called one of seven wonders of the works. Dionysus was the god of the grape harvest, wine, ritual madness, religious ecstasy and theater, and high spirit. His symbol was the vine. He holds a special wine cup called the kantharos.
