Homework is a problem for students who attend schools in Anderson School District Five. Ninety percent of students at TL Hanna have homework on a daily basis, and ninety-three percent of the people who have homework get stressed out by their work.(Williams) Often times I have so much homework, and it causes me to have mental breakdowns. They get so bad that my mom tells me to go to bed and to not worry about the homework. I do not have mental breakdowns regularly, so I know homework must be the main cause of them for me. Students should not be so stressed from homework that it causes issues with their mental health. Fifty-six percent of students identify homework as the number one cause of stress in their lives. Only one percent of students reported that homework did not stress them out at all.(Parker) Excess homework is a major problem at TL Hanna High School and other schools in Anderson School District Five.
Excess homework is a problem for not only students at TL Hanna High School, but other schools around the world as well. The problem goes as far as being a problem for elementary schoolers. Homework for children in elementary school is close to three times the amount that is suggested. There are five and six-year-olds stressing about homework, and they are being overloaded with homework. Too much homework can counteract the positive results of the work. It can cause sleep deprivation when students stay up all hours of the night to complete their homework assignment.(Martella) It can also stunt the social growth of students. …show more content…

We will create more free time for students, and we will reduce the amount of homework a student must complete each night. First, all teachers from schools Anderson District Five will be required to attend a district-wide seminar addressing the issue of excess homework. Teachers will also have to sign a contract stating that they agree to cut back on homework and understand that students have daily lives. A thirty-minute limit will be made for the amount of homework each teacher is allowed to assign. Students may work over the time limit if they wish, but they are not required to. Students will not be allowed to be graded on the correctness of their homework due to the fact that homework is merely supposed to be practice for students; instead, it has become more of a quiz. The plan will be called “Hurt of Homework”. Hurt of Homework will not only benefit students it will benefit teachers as well. Teachers will not have to spend their free time grading loads of homework. It will also benefit parents of students. They will no longer have to deal with stressed out kids or try to figure out how to help their children with their
