Getting rid of sports isn't the answer. Sports are used by students as a way to make friends and to “make a name for themselves”. There are students out there that will give anything to be able to play a sport I don’t doubt the schools would have a lot of upset (specifically high school) football players if football was no longer implemented in school.
On top of that, students learn certain life skills that wouldn’t be learned from just sitting behind a desk. Between school and sports students get to exercise time management skill which according to the test scores is something that students have fallen behind in. I know students personally that are too afraid to raise their hands in class because they're afraid to say the wrong thing. Afraid that if they do they'll be looked at differently by their friends. Of course this isn’t necessarily true but some students don’t know that because they haven't had a sport to push them to make those mistakes, learn from them, and fix them to better themselves for the next round. Unlike in a book were reading in class called “Tuesdays With Morrie”. It’s a book about a man in his seventies with ALS whos not afraid to go against social norms. In this case certain students are afraid to go against social norms and instead fearing to raise their hand and give an answer in fear that they'll lose the respect of their friends. I personally go through this every day in every class I don’t raise my hand when I know the answer and when I’m called on randomly and dont know it I feel it makes me look worse when I say the wrong answer.
Instead of taking away sports from schools “crack down” on the rules when students grades aren't meeting the requirements pull them out until they learn to balance their time between both school and sports. For both to benefit and their grades, after all that is the point of school it is to learn, have good grades, and have fun while doing it. It’s not the schools that have to change its not the
