I believe that students should not have to pay to play. Some schools are making students pay to play for their sport. By making students pay to play, it can cause many issues and problems between families and schools. Schools nationwide are starting to enforce this new concept for students by making them pay to play. When schools make this change, students will have to pay for more expenses, earn their spot on the team, and it can make them second guess about playing a sport. When students have to pay to play on their high school team, they not only have to do that, but also pay for any other expenses for that sport. A high school sport can cost a great deal of money without paying to play. In college sports athletes perform on the big stage in front of thousands of people every week and receive no money for their performances. These athletes receive no money for their performance because it is made illegal by the NCAA for any student athlete to receive any type of reward for their performance. In the last five years there has been a heated debate on whether the NCCA should start paying college athletes. People responded to this situation with mixed views and opinions. The first reason that people have shown views against pay for play is because scholarships pay for college athlete’s school either fully or partially. Secondly people believe pay for play would create jealousy and hypocrisy on college campuses between administration, college students, and other civic workers. The first reason that people have been convinced about pay for play is overpaid college coaches who make millions for the little work they do. Next the NCCA, Colleges, and merchandisers profit millions off the athletes every week without any of that revenue given back to the athletes. Next people believe scholarships are ineffective or incomplete. Lastly people believe the corrupt system of the NCAA is a reason college athletes should be paid. The NCCA has proposed plans to enact a pay for play plan including adding a two thousand dollar stipend for student athletes but this has been on hold for now. In society for student athletes to succeed in college and college careers the NCCA must pay them.
One piece of evidence is from scholastic news magazine, “Should Schools Get Rid of Sports” “A 2013 report from the Institute of Medicine, physically and active kids have more focus, are better problem solvers and score higher on tests.” Also from the scholastic news magazine, “Should Schools Get Rid of Sports” it states, “A 2012 study by the Datalys Center found that young athletes have higher scores on math and english than those who don't participate in sports.” And finally from scholastic news magazine, “Should Schools Get Rid of Sports” is says, “Today studies show that schools with big athletic programs tend to have lower dropout rates.” If we want these kind of academics we could bring back school sports. Money Hurts College athletes attend post-secondary schools in order to receive an education and to participate in sports. “Student athletes participate in an organized competitive sport sponsored by the educational institution in which he or she is enrolled. Student athletes must typically balance the roles of being a full-time student and a full-time athlete” (“Student athlete” 1). Additionally, some people believe athletes should receive a salary. However, paying college athletes hurts the school, the sports, and the athletes.
In conclusion, I think student-athletes should get paid for racking up revenue for their universities, the amount of time they spend in their sports, and by paying student-athletes, it may increase their motivation to reach academic success and steer them clear from unsolicited activities. The efforts of student-athletes must be acknowledged because they have given their best effort and countless hours of their time to represent their universities in the best way possible.
The argument whether a student-athlete should be paid to play or not be paid is one that spans the ages. College sports are considered to be of amateur status by the NCAA. Therefore they believe student-athletes should not receive a pay check to participate in a sport. However on the other end of the spectrum, many critics believe that student-athletes should receive pay for play because not only are they participating in a sport, they are entertaining the spectators. They believe that if performers in the entertainment industry are paid, why not pay the college-athletes.
The average family spends $100-$500 a month on sports. People have been doing sports for ever. Some people would be very angry if schools decided to get rid of them. Sports are dangerous though. They are causing parents to pressure their kids, students are becoming sleep deprived, and they are dangerous even though they can be healthy in some ways. Youth sports are harmful to students because they can be parents are pressuring their kids, they are dangerous, and many students are becoming sleep deprived.
Some of these students are star athletes and recreation becomes the primary factor in their lives. It has been set into their minds when they were young by their parents and piers. Early in their lives the child is taught the importance of being the best and nothing else matters. The school system now comes to realize how important this athlete has become to the school team and grades are given to keep the student on the team, and problems are just pushed aside.

One major topic of controversy in today’s society is whether or not the NCAA should allow college athletes to get paid. As of right now, the closest thing to payment athletes can receive for playing sports is an athletic scholarship. Although some people believe that an athletic scholarship is enough compensation for college athletes, the NCAA should start allowing colleges to pay athletes for playing sports at their school because it would help control the salaries of college coaches, athletics are a major source of revenue for schools, and it could help keep athletes on the right track.

If players are given the opportunity to make money and be paid, they should be able to accept these offers. Yes, extra expenses such as plane tickets home and other personal costs are a luxury, but if other full-time students can afford these luxuries and the ability to work towards them, shouldn’t the full-time student athletes be able to as well? Student athletes work just as hard in their field as the other non-athlete students do. One of the main arguments against paying student athletes is that they are being paid with a free education, but when education is no longer a priority and students are worked day in and day out at practices there is a problem with this argument.

You also have to learn to respect others and accept that winning isn’t the only measure of success. Losing can build character as well. When youth participate in a sports they enjoy, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that are harmful or dangerous to themselves and others. It is for these reasons schools should strive to maintain athletic programs for their students.

The children could have quit because they did not like the disappointment of losing, or because they are exhausted from their parents pushing them too hard. But parents have their reasons for pushing their children into sports. “Studies show that kids who play sports are less likely to become obese, abuse drugs or alcohol or to perform poorly in school” (McCormick). If children are not active, then they will most likely become overweight, and if they have nothing to do in their pastime, they may turn to drugs and alcohol, which usually leads to a decrease in grades in school.
