For the past decade; schools, parents, and students have clashed over the issue of regulating student attire. According to Marian Wilde, author of “Do Uniforms make Schools Better?”, cases involving an anti-Bush T-shirt in Vermont, an anti-gay T-shirt in San Diego, and Tigger socks in Napa, California, made their way through the courts, causing many to wonder whether this debate will ever be resolved. School uniforms in private and public schools will improve attendance and discipline, simplify dress code, and decrease bullying.
School uniforms will cut down on the bullying in schools. James Fossen said “When all students are dressed alike, competition between students over clothing choices and the teasing of those who are dressed in less expensive or less fashionable outfits can be eliminated” (Fossen). Everyone would be dressed the same in the same colors so students won't feel the need to discriminate against those that wore the less expensive close.”They believe that students feel more professional and feel like they belong to something when they wear school uniforms , encouraging them to behave accordingly as a result”(ConnectUs). Andrew Huss also documented that “teachers perceived an increase in level of respect, caring, and trust throughout the school”(Huss). Grades or going up and so is respect as uniforms have been introduced in the schools. In 2011 Peter Caruso announced that “When all students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in with their peers; thus, they can concentrate on their schoolwork” (Caruso). Students won't focus on how they look, but more importantly focus on what they are there for and that is their school work.
