Information on organisations, services, occupational roles, education and training opportunities There are various organisations that make up the beauty therapy industry they provide a range of treatments including facials, manicures, pedicures, body massage, electrical body/face treatments, hair cuts and hair treatments as well as giving advice to people wanting to change or improve their appearance, body shape or hair. As well as giving advice to those wanting to start out in the industry. A lot of people specialise in one area of the industry for instance, hairdressing, massage or nails. The main piece of legislation is The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, which places H&S duties on employers, employees and the self employed. These duties help to ensure premises, equipment, practices, and work activities, are safe and prevent risks of damage or injury as reasonably practicable to person’s premise and environment. Good health and safety practice can help keep costs of running a salon down, as potential H&S safety incidents, if they were to happen could result in a client making a claim against your business and consequently insurance premiums will go up. This will also give the salon or beauty premise a bad reputation and can also cause a loss in business. Basic principles of finance and selling The financial impact of running a salon can be costly but gaining monies through treatments and product sales to pay bills and staff on time, Is of most importance, however being able to get financing assistance through investors or via a bank can play an important part if you find that the business is not making enough working capital.
