In 2013, the horror film The Conjuring first aired. The director of this and many other horror films such as Insidious is the talented James Wan. The main characters in this trailer are Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, two well-known individuals in the horror film industry. This trailer is intended for an older audience who likes to be scared. It's not suitable for young children. When watching The Conjuring trailer, one would notice many examples of pathos. These examples included the eerie music, real pictures from the actual Warren family, word clips that come across the screen, and scary pop up scenes from the film. In the first few seconds of the trailer they use the first example of logo which was presenting the company the that produced the film. The Warner Brothers company is a very well-known company not just for horror films but for all films. So, a viewer of the trailer would notice this and probably be intrigued considering they liked other films that company produced. Also, during the trailer you will notice a brief second where they show other films that had the same director as this one. These films include Insidious and Saw. These are very diverse but successful horror films. Viewers could possibly catch a glimpse of that and get hopeful that it will also be a successful film. Just these few examples of logos that are presented in the trailer of The Conjuring have such a huge impact on the overall credibility that the film needs to be successful. There are many examples of logos and ethos that are shown throughout the trailer. There were much more examples of pathos and visual appeals that filled the trailer. Also, not only did rhetorical appeals play a huge part in the trailer but so did the characters. The main characters had a huge impact on the story and how it was viewed in the short three minutes the director had. The trailers main focus was to scare and intrigue an audience. It successfully fulfilled all of these wants by incorporating all of the above
