One important issue in studying communication is to learn how individuals manage to open conversations or how people may address one another in a given language (Aliakbari & Toni, 2008). Oyetade (1995) defines address terms as words or expressions used in interactive and face-to-face situations to designate the person being talked to. Address terms in different speech communities are worthy of study, address terms seem to be influenced by culture (Fitch, 1991; Morford, 1997).
Zhang (2011) maintains that “Culture and language are closely linked. Language is the carrier of culture, culture is reflected through language. Language is the presentation of culture Language is culturally loaded; culture has a strong influence on language, particularly on its social function and pragmatics in communication” (p. 54). Therefore, address forms are an essential part of people's language.
One form of address terms is kinship address terms. Kinship terms describe how people in various parts of the world refer to brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, and so on (Wardhaugh, 2006). Considering that Persian is the official language of Iran country, it is observed that even in Kurdish dialect, the application of Persian kinship terms is increasing and they are substituting Kurdish ones. Such an issue was motivating enough to investigate the use of Kurdish/Persian kinship address term in Kurdish community. The motive behind looking at kinship terms is that the researcher as a native speaker of Sorani dialect has realized that use of kinship terms in my community is not satisfactory.

The data for this study is collected by means of a questionnaire developed by one of the MA students of Ilam University. The researcher used the Cronbach’s α method to reliable the questionnaire. The acceptable rate for reliability of a questioner is above 70%. It will be modified. The questionnaire includes of two parts. In part one the participants will be asked to fill some questions about their personal information regarding age, education and gender. Part two includes 15 questions that participants are asked to read and imagine themselves in those situations and choose the kin address forms they usually use for addressing each other.
