responsible dog owner, one of the worst feelings in the world is finding the gate open and your pet gone. So how to stop your dog running away - and why does he do it in the first place? He or she has loving owners, they get fed regularly and generally love to be with us. Why then do some dogs take every opportunity to escape through a door or gate inadvertently left open. Of course, dogs don't understand danger so they don't know they could get hit by a car, attacked by another dog or even by a
Since the publication of his first novel, Americana (1971), Don DeLillo (b. 1936) has been recognized as among the most important writers of his generation. Don Delillo demonstrates the theme of a corrupt society through his assessment of isolation, the quest of discovering self- image, and the drive toward creating a sense of doomsday. In his work, Don Delillo explores isolationism and its capacity to reveal the corruptness practices in society. Delillo tends to place themes in his writings that
have a large impact on how Smith chooses to live his life. In particular, Smith believes that his life is a run and not a race, specifically due to the fact that he does not see himself as some sort of race-horse for Borstal, and running is what keeps Smith going. By running Smith allows his thoughts to flow freely, which is exactly what he wants in life. The first and foremost difference that can be spotted between the idea of life as a race and life as a run can be seen in the immediate temperament
but this past summer that changed. This summer I learned to love something that I never would have imagined. I learned to love running, nevertheless, running is still a love hate relationship for me. Running is an escape for me and allows me to forget about all my worries and to relax. However, this day was a little different than my usual days of running. This running adventure is one I will never forget. The door screeched closed behind me as I walked out into the scorching July summer heat
head arched up and the wind blowing against his face, Zebra always enjoyed the feeling. Zebra’s neighbors started to take notice of his passion in running and cheered him on while he ran full with joy. “ All the neighbors knew him and would wave and call out, “Go, Zebra!” Even pets and animals would cheer him on, “And sometimes one or two of their dogs would run with him awhile, barking.” Based
neighborhood was mostly old people. Timmy was scared because he watched a movie the night before and all the people in the movie died. Timmy went downstairs to get something to eat and saw something run in the backyard. At first he thought it was a dog but it wasn’t. What he saw was a person, a person that was tall and wearing a sweatshirt. Timmy ran in the house and locked the door. When he saw the man, he was crouched in the corner of the fence. The man stood up and began walking
As the first meet neared, things were going well. I made it onto the 4x100 team making me the third fastest kid on the team. The other members of the relay were Jason Schmidt, Jeremy Willard and Rodney Schmidt. Jason and Jeremy were both the top dogs and Rodney and I were second from the bottom of the barrel. The 400 relay was my best event. We placed in every meet and even took home some medals as the season progressed. As the track year rounded for the home stretch, we had only three more
I was woke up to a banging at my door. A glimpse at the alarm clock told me it was 7:00 in the morning and I knew exactly who it was banging at my door. Disgruntled and half asleep I stumbled to the door to open it. “What are you doing up so early in the morning Janet? We are on vacation so why don’t you go to your room and go back to sleep!” I said as I slowly close the door in her face. “Come on Tiffany we are in Hawaii, it is to beautiful here to be sleeping in every day. Plus I saw this
Camp is and always will be my obsession. My room is dedicated to Pinecliffe. The walls are painted blue, for one of the two colors that represent my camp (along with brown). Blue elephant and brown teddy bear stuffed animals line the walls. Pictures of my camp friends and I are scattered sporadically around the room. In the corner, there is a box bleeding with blue everything. Beads, facepaint, hair dye, and ribbon overflow this box, representing color war and the amazing time I had. Color war was
basketball team, and although he didn’t make the cut for the first year at Simon Fraser University, he trained to improve his skills and through his persistence and willpower he made the team the very next year. Prior to running the marathon of hope, Fox was no stranger to running for long distances, he was a top member of his high school and university teams. Signifying his talent and hard work, was his handful of medals, and successful runs and marathons. In remembrance of Fox’s accomplishment,
blades of grass were still moist from the morning dew and the dirt turned into miniature mud puddles. I was one of the three girls competing from my high school and the pressure I felt was immense since it was our second track meet and the running coach expected all of us to beat our personal records. The catch was that our school did not have enough funding to hire a coach for the Girls Throwing team and we all learned how to throw from YouTube videos and girls from other schools. When we
Toilet Paper Queen I began running faster than I had ever run before. Running with heavy legs, drenched in sweat, I made my way through the woods. The dryness in my mouth was overwhelming. The taste of iron crept up from the back of my throat and into my mouth. My throat felt a swarm of bees was periodically stinging me, but I kept running. I could see my little homestead coming into view, and I gathered myself enough to actually let out a sigh of relief. I was going to make it. All of a sudden
competitive side comes out when I am jumping in triple jump. When I step foot on that runway my natural athlete kicks in. My muscles twitch as I repeat in my mind “left, left, right” as I make my way down the runway. It’s hard to explain but the feeling of running as fast as you can and flying though the air is an extreme adrenaline rush. For the past four years triple jump has been my event I hold pride to in track. I see my competition as people I must excel past to remain on top. But what happens when your
out makes me mentally and physically feel better about myself. I think any kind of physical fitness is a huge confident boost for anyone. I mostly do cardio, I don’t have that much background knowledge in lifting but I also like to do ab workouts. Running is just so convenient when it’s nice outside or when you go to a gym. I run every evening with my mom at a trail I would say to the end of the trail and back is a mile. I also run with my asian friend Alex Tran, we try to run 2 miles every now and
Blood rushed through my veins and my heart began to race as the powerful equine athlete beneath me was preparing to run into the arena. Fifteen seconds and three barrels later, my heartbeat began to slow down, tears flooding my eyes, as Lulu’s first run in two years had commenced. After years of rehabilitation, dedication and patience, Lulu was back at it, doing her job. She came out of the arena as if she were on top of the world; her head held high, looking for her reward (a horse treat)! Lulu’s
What Happened?: 2:45-3:00 p.m.: Prepped for individual training- Made sure that all necessary equipment was set up prior to beginning the workout. Individual Workouts (3-4 p.m.): The class started out with agility ladder drills and then progressed to a dynamic warm up to ballistic stretching. After the dynamic warm up, the athlete did a jump rope circuit, which consisted of 1 minute jump rope skips off of 2 feet and 1 minute of single foot jump rope skips for both the left and right foot. Burke County's football field that fateful day in May, my brain was cluttered with questions and thoughts. I was busy making mental notes. Stay low, snap your trail leg, and run when you hit the ground, my mind nagged. Instinctively, I put on my running spikes, removed my warm-ups, and stretched my muscles. My concentration was interrupted as the speakers boomed, "Third and final call for all 100-meter low hurdles." In a blur I was on the starting line, staring down a horizon filled with hurdles
more team points. Since the girls' team lacked a medley relay, he placed Cindy, Kim, Susan and I in those spots. Cindy would run the 400, Kim would run the 200, and Susan and I would start the race off by each running the 100. We all had worked viciously to earn those spots by running off against our teammates. Going into the first race we had not expected much since Susan and I had never run this type of race. There were so many crucial things that we had to remember. It wasn't just to get
Runner's High Many runners have had the opportunity to experience a state of euphoria while running. While the actual state that they feel varies immensely for each individual there is a common feeling associated with the term "runner's high". When a person is asked about runner's high they typically will say that it a pleasant state that a runner might experience after a certain distance. This in fact may not be true for only runners though. Skiers, surfers, football players and wrestlers all
forest is damp but not muddy. There are moss covered stones that litter the path I am walking. Some of them are loose, and others are firmly embedded in the ground. For the most part they are the rocks that you have to watch out for when your are running a cross-country race so that you do not sprain your ankle. They are the type of rocks that are annoying at picnics and camp fires because they are not big enough to sit on and too big to move. I keep walking because I know that ahead of me is a
