The book The Kite Runner by Khaled hosseini portrays how family and the people around you can greatly change you by the person. The antagonist in the book, Amir, has been through a lot of experiences where he has succeeded and has failed all because of the influence from friends and family. The people that have influenced amir the most throughout his life is his father Baba, Baba’s close friend Rahim Khan, Ali their servant, his wife Soraya, and ali’s son hassan. In the beginning of the novel Amir is a caring young boy. Just like every growing kid Amir adapts to trust and friendship between others, But once after Amir Witnesses an unpleasant incident he becomes disloyal, dishonest and untrustworthy. Rahim Khan was the main person that influenced amir to be a loving and caring person. Amir and baba had some tension between each other because amir would not receive the amount of attention he wanted from baba. Rahim was the man that gave Amir all the attention baba didn’t give him. Rahim was always there for amir encouraging him to pursue his dreams of writing stories and novels. Rahim was the only person amir would ever show his stories to and in return for the trust rahim would leave little notes saying “Amir Jan, I enjoyed you story very much. Mashallah, God has granted you a special talent. It is now your duty to hone that talent, because a person who wastes his God-given talents is a donkey. You have written your story with sound grammar and interesting style. But the most impressive thing about your story is that it has irony. You may not even know what that means…..My door is and always will be open to you, Amir Jan. I shall hear any story you have to tell. Bravo. Your friend, Rahim”(Hosseini 35). It is obvious that Amir has... ... middle of paper ... ...hat gave amir the confidence he needed to grow up, start his own family and support his family. In conclusion, the people who surround you are the people that influence you either for the better or for the worse. Even though Hassan did not intentionally want to harm amir, hassan always left amir being jealous of him. Amir didn’t think it was fair that Hassan was just a servant but was treated as equally as himself. Rahim, soraya and baba left a huge influence on amir for the better, rahim always boosted amirs confidence and was always there for his as a father, soraya would always encourage amir and support him on his dream on wanting to be an author, and baba has encouraged amir to always be there for sohrab and to be like a father to him. All these characters in amirs life have taught him life lessons and changed him to become a better loving and caring person.
