Malcolm x was one of the great civil rights leaders during the 1960’s. He spoke for self-sufficiency and rights for all and believed; “I’m for truth, no matter who tells it. I'm for justice, no matter who it's for or against.” (Malcolm X). Malcolm X was at a great disadvantage all through his life. He was treated badly by the white population in Lansing, Michigan; his family was the only African Americans to attend the local schools. Malcolm X was rejected and often left out from pursing any opportunities throughout his whole life. This made him vulnerable, as a youngster to logical ideologies. From the time he was little he never settled for status quo, it was his hopes and ambitions that kept him searching for the truth. Malcolm Little was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May, 19, 1925. Malcolm was born into a family of 3 children. His parents were Earl, a U.N.I.A member, and Louise, a home builder, Little. Shortly after he was born Malcolm and his family moved to East Lansing, Michigan. Four years after Malcom’s family moved to Lansing, Malcolm’s family home was set on fire by a raciest mob. When the town’s emergency responders arrived they refused to do anything about the house being set on fire. "The white police and firemen came and stood around watching as the house burned to the ground," (Malcolm X). Malcolm’s family was forced to move again this time two miles outside of Lansing, Michigan, but this sparked more harassment by the locals. A local police department repeatedly appeared at their front door looking for a small pistol that Earl Little was supposedly shooting at the raciest mob while they were igniting the Little’s home, this was investigated because Earl Little had no pistol registered under his name. Malcolm X started to propose that more was at risk than voting and restaurants (Carson, Clayborne). Malcolm x advised his followers to defend themselves “by any means necessary.”(Lawrence A., Mamiya). Malcolm X encouraged everyone to stop using terms like “nigger” and “colored” to instead use “black” or “African American” (Lewis, Thomas Tandy). Malcom X was a product of his environment every event of his life lead by his hopes and ambitions to the truth. Malcolm X found the truth in the world living without hate towards another man because he is different Although his ambitions did lead him to the truth his hopes were not as successful Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21, 1965, by a member of the nation of Islam.
Malcolm X, born in 1925 as Malcolm Little in Omaha, Nebraska lived with the knowledge that his family house was burned down and that his father was killed by the Ku Klux Klan because he refused to vacate an area that was “supposed” to be for Whites only. His father was an independent man who wanted to fend for his family by himself and not have to rely on anyone
Malcolm X was man who grew up in a less than fortunate situation, which led him to become a street hustler at a young age. When he was twenty-one years old his life style caught up to him and he was convicted of robbery. Shortly after his arrival to prison Malcolm realized that he was not
...ets his early experience of racism in the context of American history and society. He begins to see black people in general, rather than just himself, as victims of racism. Malcolm X rejected nonviolence as a principle, but he sought cooperation with other civil rights activists who favored aggressive nonviolent protests. He preached to react when necessary, but his message was unfortunately misinterpreted and therefore all accusations were aimed at Malcolm X and his "violent, radical practices (Zinn 467)." Malcolm X never advocated violence as an effective method in reforming a racist society, he did however, promote retaliation in the event of violent actions taken on black-Americans during the civil rights era. He preached what any white man would have done in a black man's situation: to react when assaulted.
In the U.S there have been a lot of people who’ve had political influence in our government, and the person that interested me the most was Malcolm X. Malcolm X was a African American civil rights leader who fought so African Americans could get the same rights like everyone else. Malcolm X was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. Before, his name was Malcolm Little, but later changed it to Malcolm X when he joined the Nation of Islam. Like many political leaders, Malcolm X had his own method of how he thought was the right action to use to get his objective. To accomplish the goal of desegregation and equality of black people, “he believed that black people should get their rights by any means necessary”# He criticized nonviolence and opposed those who favored or used it. Malcolm X went throughout the North and the South making speeches about his ideas and what he thought was right, and he encouraged all black people to fight for their rights and protection. As he became more popular and well known by everyone, he influenced people by giving black people the courage to stand up for themselves and fight back, made a lot of them join him with his ideas, and criticized the government for all the bad things it was doing.
Malcolm X throughout his whole life was one person. However, given his experiences, evolutions and phases that he went through in his 39-year life, he went by several different names. From the beginning he struggled with his racial and religious identity which led him to start going by different names. When he had a revelation he would then change his name. Malcolm X is most remembered for being a former criminal turned key figure in the civil rights movement next to the likes of Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. Unlike those two however he was most known for his advocacy for Black Nationalism and suggested that violence is the answer. His most famous phrase was how he we wanted freedom and equality “by any means necessary”, in a very
Malcolm X had the ability to reach any one member of the black nation in America. This revolution was cut short on a sad day in February of 1965, when Malcolm X was assassinated. This left a void in the hearts of the people who he had touched upon in his revolt. This was where things began to get funky.
Malcolm X was an African American men with big dreams. He was one of the most important Civil Rights leader, however his thought process was completely different from Martin Luther King JR. Malcolm’s childhood was rough and filled with violence. Born on May 19, 1925, in Lansing, Michigan. He had seven siblings and very poor condition. His father was killed due to him beliefs and Malcolm was separated from his siblings. He went into couple of foster and detention homes. Although he was a excellent student in an all white school, his skin color always stuck out to him and made him feel uneasy. He dropped out of school and moved to Boston, Massachusetts at the age of 15. After moving he ran numbers, sold drugs and was sentenced to eight years of prison for armed robbery. Malcolm encountered the teachings of Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam. When out of prison he was a changed man. Malcolm played a very important role in the Civil Rights movement, his philosophy was very different from Martin Luther King. Malcolm X believed in Integration, separate schools for blacks and whites, separate business formed by blacks, and self defense.
He urged followers to defend themselves against white aggression “by any means necessary” (Malcolm X) . Malcolm X is one of the most revolutionary people in America due to his charismatic character, his devotion to exhort blacks to cast off the shackles of racism and his commitment to helping others and his intense devotion to serving others resulted in enough achievements to the serve several ordinary
All Malcolm X wanted to fight for was freedom and equal liberty and rights. The same things we put in our constitution, the pledge of allegiance, and National Anthem. Through saying words like for the land of the free, and words like for liberty and justice for all in the pledge of allegiance. I believe that Malcolm X seemed too angry at the white man, but he had the right to be in this time in America. Since all he did was reading, he was able to see the reality of things rather than what they seemed to be. Me being a minority if I were in his position I would be equally as mad too. Me coming from a black minority ethnic group I can relate to what Malcolm X was writing. He wanted to fight for rights and to give minority ethnic groups the chance for all to be treated
To begin with, Malcolm X left a legacy after himself when the 39 year old human rights activist was assassinated on February 21, 1965. Malcolm X lead a substantial role in a black power movement, a liberated group in which gave priority to the black culture and fight for their political and social institutions equality. This civil rights act disputed and questioned the passive and unification conflict for African-American egalitarianism, fighting for freedom and justice which was influenced by Martin Luther King Jr’s civil rights development. Malcolm had been a big competitor in the civil rights war that come up against a situation in our nation during the 1960’s. Being known as the most influential and controversial leadership, Malcolm X
Malcolm X was an African-American activist who violently protested. He used violence to fight for the rights and freedom of all Black Americans. Although he wanted the same changes as Martin Luther King, he was not remembered the same as him. Malcolm X was an Islamic ex-convict who believed in racial separatism. Racial segregation is where Black Americans live separately from White Americans in the United States of America. X also believed in gaining freedom and rights ‘by any means necessary’. Malcolm X was assassinated on the 21st of February 1965, aged 39 by three members of the ‘Nation of Islam’ after X left this group after being disillusioned by their radical beliefs.
Malcolm X was a strong believer in the truth and to teach it in schools. Being an oppressed African American gave him perspective and the ability to see through the lies that are told to keep white people in power. As stated in article 4, Malcolm states in his speech; “The Organization of Afro-American unity devise the original education methods and procedures which will liberate the minds of our children from the vicious lies and
Malcolm X was a well-known civil rights leader who served as a spokesman for the Nation of Islam. Malcolm was a very gifted inspirational speaker. Through his dedication and leadership during the 1950s and 60s he grew the Nation of Islam followers to over 400, 00 members. Malcolm X encouraged blacks not to become victim to racism by any means necessary. In the year of 1965 Malcolm X was assassinated in front of his wife and children while he was delivering a speech at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan.
His troubled background also sets a negative tone for him since many argue his “criminal career on the streets of Boston and New York, [for which] he was arrested and was sentenced to ten years in prison for robbery” ( Baughman 1). Many argue that Malcolm X was just a street criminal who encouraged violence as revenge to what happened to his family. It is also said that he was a racist who blamed African American troubles on white people and opposed black people from integrating with white America (Greenspan 5). It is no doubt that Malcolm X was not Martin Luther King Jr. who he is often compared to. King had a more peaceful and patient approach, whereas Malcolm demanded Civil Rights immediately. In fact, it is said that Malcolm X went as far as to calling King a “White man in his thinking” (Smitha 1). Because of his troubled background and a few of his poor judgements his legacy will forever be a debate of whether or not he is a hero. However, it is important to keep in mind what he has
Malcom X was a person who argued that African Americans will never get to achieve equality in a society being dominated by whites. So as a result, he pushed black to stand their ground and fight back when they are faced in an armed revolution. He felt as if blacks should all get together to form their own society rather than integrate within a white society. As well as preaching violence, he preached pride, and in the way he contributed greatly to the black power movement of the 1960s. The second domain where Malcolm X’s contribution is felt is that he is one of the first voices to speak of America’s “crisis of representation.” Malcolm X is one of the first to toll the bell in demanding that America’s narrative be represented with as many voices as possible. In his work as a member of the Nation of Islam, he understood this from the position of a Black Man in America.
