Teachers are one of the most important aspects of a school. While children are at the school, teachers are required to not only teach the course material but guide in the development of their students. Throughout the course and its corresponding class, education 200, we have discussed many different styles of teaching to a variety of different learners. Through the exploration of many theorists, different case studies, and class discussion, I have learned many aspects that will benefit me in my future teaching. The growth and development of children has been a key topic of this course and its corresponding course, education 200. Children will undergo many stages of development according to Piaget. Each stage differentiates from each other by the thinking process an adolescent can endure at that time. Vygotsky, on the contrary, focuses on the social aspect of learning. Vygotsky states that adolescents can enhance their learning through social interactions or guided participation. Another main topic we have discussed is behavior, which will have a dramatic affect on the overall classroom environment. One way to positively transform the atmosphere in classroom is to create a rewards system for the class. With a rewards system, children are motivated to achieve a classroom or individual goal with the intention of receiving a reward. The most beneficial way get adolescents motivated would be to allow them to choose their reward because it will be something they desire and will be willing to work for. Conversely, if a teacher decides the reward, he or she may be unintentional discriminating against some students, who then will acquire learned helplessness. I have learned a array of different styles and techniques to teach students with disabilities, language difficulties, races, and ethnicities. This class along with education 200 has taught me many styles of teaching along with the growth and development of children, which will be needed in my future teaching. I have had no experience with students who have a physical disability or have particular cultural requirements. In EDU671 the researcher begins selecting data tools to help identify the issue within the organization. Using both qualitative and quantitative data will help find and measure the area of focus. After analyzing the data received, consequently it was determined the organization had a major communication gap between leadership and employees. The qualitative data were used as a formative assessment to gather information on employee communication skills. Once the information was received the quantitative data served as the summative assessment to focus on the implementation of new communication strategies. There are many different opinions about the differences between faith and reason. Traditionally viewed differences between reason and faith are that reason is something that requires empirical, factual evidence while faith relies merely on, well, faith. For something to have reason it must have some kind of factual evidence to make it true, or at least very good sound reasoning to believe that whatever it is, is factual. Faith is far from something that attains empirical evidence, faith usually relies on personal accounts which are usually of mystical content. Many philosophers have different opinions about how the two can coexist; some say under no circumstances at all, while others claim they can justify each other, and some claim faith is reason alone. Some philosophers claim that believing in God is an obvious choice by the claim that just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there like Blaise Pascal. Blasé Pascal and Clifford offer two completely different standpoints on the role of reason and faith.

Two years ago, I embarked on a journey that would teach me more than I had ever imagined. As a recent college graduate, I was thrilled to finally begin my teaching career in a field I have always held close to my heart. My first two years as a special education teacher presented countless challenges, however, it also brought me great fulfillment and deepened my passion for teaching students with special needs. The experiences I have had both before and after this pivotal point in my life have undoubtedly influenced my desire to further my career in the field of special education.
The students in our classrooms, both special education and general education classrooms, require individualized education to reach their full potential. Each child’s potential is different just as each child’s road to reach it is different. Our job as teachers is to be there for the student’s to help them reach their potential through their own unique way.
Looking back at my timeline of being at primary school, an aspect that I believe made a difference in my education and philosophy of education was the reward system. Schools have a solid framework to support and reinforce positive behaviour (Crone, D and Hawken, L et al 2010). In todays society we have all become aware that we live in a multiethnic and diverse society. Therefore every pupil will have different needs including intellectual, social, emotional and physical (Crone, D & Horner, R, 2003). When I was at primary school the reward system was slightly encouraged. In year 5 it came to my attention the rewards system was being interpreted differently, rewards were being given to the disruptive pupils to encourage them to stop being disruptive.

Along these two weeks we have been prompt to make a recall to our own way of learning and why we became a teacher: Was it because coincidence, due to life circumstances, maybe because family tradition, was it a conscious decision or because someone influenced us? Whatever the answer is, we have to face reality and be conscious that being a teacher does not only means to teach a lesson and asses students learning. It requires playing the different roles a teacher must perform whenever is needed and required by our learners, identify our pupils needs and preferences, respecting their integrity and individuality but influencing and motivating them to improve themselves and become independent.

In this course I experienced an important change in my beliefs about teaching; I came to understand that there are many different theories and methods that can be tailored to suit the teacher and the needs of the student. The readings, especially those from Lyons, G., Ford, M., & Arthur-Kelly, M. (2011), Groundwater-Smith, S., Ewing, R., & Le Cornu, R. (2007), and Whitton, D., Barker, K., Nosworthy, M., Sinclair, C., Nanlohy, P. (2010), have helped me to understand this in particular. In composing my essay about teaching methods and other themes, my learning was solidified, my knowledge deepened by my research and my writing skills honed.
Education is a profession which requires a teacher to be able to communicate with a multitude of students on a variety of levels. There is not a class, or student for that matter, that is identical. Therefore, teachers must be able to identify and help educate students from all different types of backgrounds and at different levels. Teaching a singular subject presents difficulties, but teaching students with disabilities should not be one. There are three main teaching areas that need to be focused on when teaching a student with a learning disability. Teachers need to focus on the strategies that will assist students with reading comprehension skills, writing skills, and maintaining appropriate behaviors in a classroom setting.
Special education is an incredibly important, but often underappreciated aspect of education. There is a stigma around individuals with disabilities, that leads people to assume those in special education are less capable or smart as their peers in in a strictly traditional classroom setting. That could not be farther from the truth though, and the individuals in special education are just as capable of learning and maturing in to successful adults. As a future teacher, I was not really aware of how little I knew about special education until I enrolled in this course. This course has helped change and shape my views of special education, and helped me gain a better understanding of what exceptional children are and how I can better serve them
