I am going to be teaching special education and am hoping to work in the elementary setting. I believe a successful classroom consists of using all the theories in one way or another. However, I am going to be specifically looking at the principles of the social cognitive theory. I will be looking at the social cognitive theory through ideas such as modeling, self-efficacy, reciprocal causation, vicarious reinforcement, vicarious punishment, among others, and will use these to build my classroom.
Part One: Creating an Ideal Productive Learning Environment:
Overall Classroom Management
In this section, I am going to look at how I will incorporate my personal theory of learning in the classroom. It is my belief that kids learn by observing others, therefore, my personal theory of learning is associated with the social cognitive theory. I will look at how this theory is connected to my beliefs on how children learn and how they are motivated.
Personal Theory of Learning
I believe the main way that we learn is by observing the adults and peers in our lives. I feel that as we observe behaviors of others we figure out which behaviors are acceptable and which behaviors are unacceptable. With that being said, the theory of learning that is closest to my own personal beliefs is the social cognitive view of learning. I am going to be teaching in a special education classroom, and I must model acceptable behaviors for my kids. Conclusion
In conclusion, I feel like the most important thing I can do to create a positive learning environment is model all of the behaviors I expect my kids to learn and be able to model themselves. My kids should be able to learn appropriate and inappropriate behaviors from the skills they acquired from watching models. My children must be motivated and feel as though they can learn and model the behaviors presented, or they will never try to reach any type of goals set before them. Overall, I want to increase their self-efficacy so they feel they can achieve goals I have set before them or ones they have made themselves.
In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch says, "Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit em', but remember it's a sin To Kill a Mockingbird." This quote demonstrates Atticus's firm belioef in the Golden Rule. The Golden Rule is to treat others how you want to be treated. Atticus follows the Golden Rule throughout the novel, including while defending Tom Robinson, a local African American accused of raping Mayella Ewell. Due to Atticus's firm belief in the Golden Rule and the fact he must live with himself before others and tries to teach his children the right thing to do, it makes sense for him to defend Tom Robinson.
In the gruesome novel, All Quiet On The Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque, tells a story of a young boy named Paul Bäumer that fights in World War I as a German soldier. Paul is the protagonist and the narrator for most of the novel. The reader can see, through Paul, the horrors of war. Critics agree that the novel is believable. “Paul's story is the realization of the horror of war…” (Tighe 60). The setting of the novel is in the trenches of the Western Front in France and in Germany. There are numerous cultural aspects going on within this anti-war novel. Remarque accurately portrays the culture aspects of, male roles, family relations, the economy, and historical references to life during World War I in Germany and France for the soldiers on the Western front during the last two years of Word War I between 1916 and 1918.
Behaviorism, or learning theory is one of three “grand theories” of human development. The focus of behaviorism is observable behavior, with no reference to mental processes. As a learning theory behaviorism, assumes that learning occurs via interactions with the environment, through the process of conditioning.
Teaching theories are as much part of the classroom as the student and the teacher. The effect individual theories have on an environment depends how they are incorporated within the classroom in addition to the influence they have had on the curriculum construction. This essay will briefly look at how motivation theory, cognitive and social cognitive theory along with constructivism have impacted on education and the classroom.
My classroom goal is to develop a positive learning environment, in order to develop a positive learning environment I must individually create a positive relationship with every one of my students. Self-efficacy can be developed by paying close attention to past success and failures, positive reinforcement and encouragement from others also plays a role in developing self-efficacy. The social cognitive theory is unique among other learned personality theories in that the emphasis places on the reciprocity between individuals and the environments they find themselves in. Learning theorists have been accuses of oversimplifying personality to such an extent that is has become meaningless, this is because they ignore many of the internal processes that are inherently human. These criticisms are blunted somewhat by social cognitive approaches because it explicitly considers the role of the cognitive process.
Moving on to the next part of the case, the police finds out that Adam's sister, Eve, has images of bestiality and necrophilia saved on her computer. Both bestiality and necrophilia fall under the category of extreme pornography. Extreme pornography usually refer to any sexual representations that entail violence and are only published for sexual arousal. The Criminal Justice and Immigration Act (CJIA) 2008 strictly forbids the possession of any kind of images deemed to be pornographic and/or extreme. Subsection (6) and (7) describes in detail the description of extreme representations; having "sexual intercourse or oral sex with animal" and having "sexual interference with human corpse" are both stated on the section 63(7) of the CJIA. In addition, any act that "threatens a person's life, ... which results..., in serious injury to a person's anus, breasts, or genitals, ... or is grossly offensive..." are also regulated under the same law. Subsection (8) states that possessing not only hard copies of the images but also computer-stored data is subject to being prosecuted. Thus, the image files Eve had of bestiality and necrophilia on her computer are illegal under CJIA s.63(1). The convict can be punished with two years of imprisonment if faced with these charges.
The definition of the social learning theory is People learn through observing others’ behavior, attitudes, and outcomes of those behaviors. “Most human behavior is learned observationally through modeling: from observing others, one forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed, and on later occasions this coded information serves as a guide for action.” (Learning Theories Knowledgebase ). Most people learn through watching other. As a child, we learn by mocking what we have observed repeatedly. This is how we learn to walk, talk, speak, and to feed ourselves. We also learn social skills from the people around us. We learn right from wrong, we learn what is acceptable in our everyday lives. We also learn societal norms. Most children learn social norms from the family structure. If the family structure is broken or not complete it may cause problems for the children. If the family has only one parent then the family unit suffers. If the child is part of a family that has deviant problems then the child learns that these problems are the norm. This could lead to the child to think that drinking or drugs are normal. It is also a factor if the child observes crime in the family unit. The child learns that crime is normal until they run up against society who states otherwise.
Social Learning Theory- is learned by observing others in social situations, especially the family and the media, and by perceiving the benefits or rewards to the behavior (Isaacs, 2000).

Teachers can enhance self-efficacy among students by teaching basic knowledge and then skills to mastery. Teacher can assure students that they can be successful and point other successful students like them who have been successful by using the techniques provided by the teacher (Ormrod, 2011). Teachers can promote self-regulated learning by encouraging students to set goals and performing self-evaluation. To conclude social cognitive theory describes learning as an internal phenomenon that may or may not be reflected in behavior and people’s observation of those around them affect their behavior and cognitive processes (Ormrod, 2011).
There are four steps in the process of modeling for observational learning. They are attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation. Attention is when you focus on what the person you are observing is doing. Retention is remembering what you observed. Reproduction is performing the behavior you observed, and motivation is wanting to actually do the behavior.(www.courses.lumenlearning.com) The psychologist that most strongly identifies with observational learning is Albert Bandura. He believed that observational learning was the result of cognitive processes that are, “actively judgemental and constructive,” not merely “mechanical copying.”(Bandura) According to Bandura there are three different models to observational learning. Social Cognitive Learning provides a window to develop an educational experience for school children, families, and adults that reflect different styles of learning such as visual or hands-on learners. (EE, 19). Learning through observing models, reading, listening, repetition and reproduction are partial. Observing through hands-on or interactive activities, and motivation based on individual goals of each individual person are all accomplished, demonstrated and provided by any museum setting. These traits of learning through Social Cognitive Theory are offered through museum exhibits, interactive and hands-on displays, works of arts, artifacts, and educational programs. Social learning theory is up to bat next. This theory’s primary theorist is Albert Bandura. He was born in 1925 and he is still kicking to this day. which makes him. by default, the most modern theorist we have. The main point to this theory is that you don’t have to directly tell the child what he or she should be doing. They can observe what Mom. Dad. Sister. or anyone and copy that behavior. Which this is a great thing, it truly shows the capabilities of children, and shows they are more observant than a lot of people think. They are just like little sponges. The bad side to this is that they see the good behaviors as well as the bad ones. In a home with bad examples the problem occurs of an endless cycle of bad habits. The pros to this one is it shows the influence society. It shows that society is one of the biggest influences so whe have to start putting more energy into child’s wellbeing. It also explains some behaviors that seem out of place or unexplainable, the child learned them from something they saw. Another cons to this theory are that it puts its primary focus on learning behaviors from others as opposed to genetics or other factors. How to use this in the classroom is fairly simple if you ask me, be a good role model. Not only in the classroom but in all aspects of your life that kids are involved. Each of the three learning theories, Cognitivism, Constructivism, and Behaviorism, has worth and merit in my opinion. Yet, each one has its own unique qualities with one common factor, the learning process. It seems to me that the best teacher is one who would utilize all the theories of learning. However, if I look closely, I am most likely favoring one or two more than the others in my own instructional methods.
