The Anime Club
Upon entering Kean University, I knew right there and then many different options are laid right in front of me. Being a freshman, I wanted to explore the different clubs and organizations that the University had to offer. During the Campus Awareness day, I was startled by the number clubs and organizations that Kean has. I was pretty drawn to several clubs but I tried to limit my self to only a few so that I could balance it pretty well with my schedule. Among the clubs that I joined were the Martial Arts club, which I never had the chance to attend to, because it meets during Thursday nights, which create a conflict with my schedule for, I am working part time. The other is the Filipino American Cultural Society which focuses on spreading the Filipino culture into mainstream America for Filipinos is the second biggest Asian majority in the United States next to China. Lastly the Anime Club which is a club that exposes people to the art of Animation.
Amongst the three clubs, that I have enlisted myself into, the Anime Club has been the only club in which I was quite consistent in attendance. My passion in the arts was one of the factors of me having to be drawn more to this club. In addition, my fascination on Japanese animation is one of the reasons that made me stay on this club. The Anime Club meets every Tuesday during college hour at Vaughn Eames building at room 112. Every meet, the club organizers have at least two or three choices of anime that the club members can watch. If time permits, we finish all the selections for that day. The selection range from contemporary anime such as Gundam and DragonBall Z, to old school anime such as Voltes V and Mazinger Z just to name a few. The club sometimes also sometime feature full-length animes. In addition, the club holds fundraisers in order to finance the activities of the club. One of the fundraiser activities that they had was a video game tournament in which the club provides the video games and people battle out on different type of video games. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the event because of some personal reasons.
In summary, my experience in the club was good. Having to watch different anime was great experience.
Clubs were a great way for me to expand my interests outside of athletics. I was involved in Key Club and FCA freshman year and I enjoyed meeting new people and making a difference in our community. I was inducted a member of NHS junior year and this was a great way to make service a priority.

I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. I have gained access to this community through pledgeship in Sigma Chi, one the most prestigious fraternities in the nation, with the hopes of becoming a brother. High school can be a very terrifying and a frustrating place to cope with. Students have to worry about fitting in and finding somewhere they truly belong. In order to find that place of belonging students can join clubs and interact with other students with the same interests as them. Clubs help students not only make lifelong friendships, but also develop skills they can take with them throughout their life and career. Although many high school clubs have proved to be a good experience in a student’s high school career, The National FFA Organization (FFA) serves many great purposes for students making it the most effective high school club because it develops student’s potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success.
Media is known for taking an issue and exaggerating the truth and putting out the bias of their own political ideology. In sports media the same could be said about how the sports analyst have their bias about teams, players and coaches. This bias directly hurts the image and reputation of people who may not want the attention or made a mistake that was blown out of proportion. Also sports media tend to cover many rumors that may not always be true, but even if the rumor isn’t true at the end, it tends to affect the viewer’s perspective anyway. Sports media outlets such as ESPN and recently Fox Sports 1 hurt or enhance the images of players, coaches, owners, and teams by covering and reporting rumors that are sometimes untrue and they also broadcast sportscasters' biased opinions ultimately causing the public to change their opinions of sports figures.
Everyone is different in their own unique ways. We are characterized by what we wear, what we look like, how we walk, and how we move. We are also characterized by our likes, dislikes, hobbies, and more. In addition to all of this, each one of us is characterized by what culture we are a part of. We represent that culture and its subcultures in unique and interesting ways. Today, I will share with you what subculture I belong to. I belong to a subculture of gaming, and I will talk about how, when, and why I participate in this culture.
The tragic hero is a person of greatness, and noble stature who usually contributes to their own downfall. Oedipus has greatness and noble stature; he’s sublime, in the way that he cares for his people. What leads to his own downfall is his own pride, which came out when he solved the riddle of the Sphinx and was praised by marrying the queen of Thebes, making him feel untouchable, “Here I am myself- you all know me, the world knows my fame: I am Oedipus. (7-9)” His almightiness caused him to feel obligation into saving his city, causing his rejection of reality, thus causing mistakes throughout the play. The prestige he has causes him to find the killer himself, because no other man other than himself can fix this problem causing a quarrel with Creon and Tiresias. Instead of helping, he ruins himself by cursing the killer, which is his own self saying,” I’ll rid us of this corruption. Whoever killed the king may decide to kill me too,” (157-158). Also he denies what Tiresias is telling him, which is the truth, but Oedipus insults him by calling his prophecies “riddles, murk and darkness. In the history, the japan culture has much affected by the Chinese culture. Until the Heian period (894), japan stop to send the people to china learning culture, also in Edo period (1633) locked their country and not allow the people get in, that time, japan have develop their own Japanese style culture. After the Meiji Restoration, japan open their country again, in this time, Japan start to get much information of the world, westernization in a fast way. But the traditional culture must getting change because the whole country are live under the western culture, not just in the citizen mind, the city building style also change to western, that affect to the poor people have a big change of their life. The America sport and movie affect the people who live in Japan to change their interest. In 1920, because of world war, the armies in Japan were disabling to promote the western culture in that time. After the surrender in World War II, America armies were promoting the democratization and the America culture. The economic in Japan were growing in a high speed, the life style also getting a big change, much of the traditional culture were losing at this moment. In today, Japan culture were start to promote their own culture to the world in this 20 years, anime and electronic games were big affect in every country. From now on, japan culture was much affected by the western culture, but there law protected own traditional culture, much of the people wear the Kimono (traditional Japanese garment) on the street in Japan.
There are valid arguments for the various racially "isolated" clubs in that they provide a support network and common identity for students who might otherwise feel culturally marooned on a campus as large as ours. (Specifically, I feel that the "Iranian Students Club," "Armenian Americans" and "Hillel House," to name a few, all provide emotional support to students away from home and their native culture.)
There are several negative stereotypes associated with video games and those who play them; some of these may often hold true. However, there are plenty of learning opportunities in video games. While the direct purpose of some games is to educate or train, other games that do not directly have this purpose can still become a learning experience for the player. As Ntiedo Etuk, president of the educational video game company Tabula Digital said, “The traditional view of video games has been that they are distractions from the task of learning” (Electronic Education Report 1). Video games are an effective tool for learning and retaining skills both inside and outside the classroom environment. The basic cycle of game play--the introduction to the game, game play, collaboration, improvement of these between each round, and evaluation at the end of the game (Klievink and Janssen 159)--are nearly parallel to the traditional classroom learning cycle of reading a textbook or listening to a lecture, taking a quiz, studying, focusing on items missed on the quiz, and taking a test or exam. Within this cycle, there are many opportunities to develop and perfect both educational, life, and occupational skills.
On December 10th in 1948, the general assembly adopted a Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This declaration, although not legally binding, created “a common standard of achievement of all people and all nations…to promote respect for those rights and freedoms” (Goodhart, 379). However, many cultures assert that the human rights policies outlined in the declaration undermine cultural beliefs and practices. This assertion makes the search for universal human rights very difficult to achieve. I would like to focus on articles 3, 14 and 25 to address how these articles could be modified to incorporate cultural differences, without completely undermining the search for human rights practices.
In today’s modern time, college and universities are competitive and impacted; a lot of students work hard and compete to attend the best. Nowadays, high GPA and grades are not the only important factor that college and universities look for, but being an all-around student who is involved with volunteer work, campus clubs, and sports. Many students take the easy route and turn to clubs or bigger social organizations such as the Greek life. Unlike the average clubs or student organizations participating in a fraternity and sorority is a lifetime affiliation and students are only allowed to be committed to one. These social/cultural groups are filled with members who share similar values and interests that can also offer a college life experience, good or bad.
