Do zoos serve any purpose other than for our enjoyment? Animals are forced into becoming entertainment for humans. Animals are put into small areas that resemble their natural habitat with glass or fences surrounding them. Obviously, you can’t exactly replicate an animal's habitat. Thousands of kids are yelling, tapping, and throwing things at these animals to get their attention every single day. They are subjected to torture, neglect, and most animals are stressed and suffering from depression. Animals are not meant to be taken out of their natural habitats for our enjoyment. All zoos should be shut down because they animals are being tortured. To get animals into the zoos, they first have to be captured and transported which is very stressful on the animals. If you see an animal bobbing their head up and down or twisting it while walking it is very possible that this animal is affected by Zoochosis. There are many causes for this diseases. Some include: being taken away from a familiar environment, being kept alone, being caged, and being directly controlled by humans. Zoochosis is ignored by many zoo keepers and isn’t acknowledged by veterinarians.
There is no reason for animals to be kept in zoos, except for entertainment and money. People attending zoos don’t know what happens behind the scene and pay high prices to watch animals. Animals are put on display and subjected to poor conditions. Many zoos claim to inform people about their animals, but more times then not there is just a small sign giving a very general description about the animals. People often already know this information and aren’t learning anything new. Also, in crowded enclosures you often can’t locate the small sign and people are only there to see the
