It is all wrong.
For all the beauty this custom made piece is, by your dearest friend, this is one thought you cannot banish for what is to be the happiest day of your life.
Because it is all wrong.
Every logical part of you knows that. This isn’t how it was supposed to be.
You’re not wearing the dress you always thought you would.
The one you had always dreamt of. Right from your childhood to your early adulthood, you’d sneak to peek inside mother’s closet at the piece. You’d stare for hours, taking in the exquisite meshes of lace and silk. The bodice glitters with beads. Fit for a queen.
You stare at your own reflection, almost perfect picture of a blushing bride. All you’re missing is that swooning idyllic smile you cannot conjure yourself to wear.
Choices of the heart have led you to this moment, but your heart cannot endure this dress. Despite its slim cut and light material, it clung to your skin tighter than a second skin, weighing down.
The hurriedly purchased gown as its own merits, a concoction of silk dotted with seed pearls. Simple and timeless. Surely the only accessory you’d need is the glow of a woman in love?
And it is all wrong.
You’ve had days to think about this.
You let your heart rule you. Many have said this. You rely on emotions and passion to propel yourself into giving to the greater good. Now you’ve used to make a selfish decision. For the first time, there was no pressure, no demands to give into. This is of your own accord.
The war is dangerous. People were eloping left, right and centre.
Your best friend died. You have had far too many close shaves between the two of you. That’s when you knew there would be no other answer to his question. As you sat by his bed, grasped his hand, praying the heavens ...
... middle of paper ...
...rment.
The reverence of his gaze would never fail pierce your heart. You consider it a wonder you do not crumple under the intensity and love every time.
You can feel the smile break out from your arm. His head inclines the slightest inch.
Well aware of the meaning of is gesture, you nod. Arms linked, you pace yourselves slowly as you walk, bouquet held upright.
He’s your soul mate, you’re sure of this. Your other half.
No, this is not the great, grand wedding you’d always dreamt of. No family with you. Just you, and him, and his love. That was all the really mattered, right? Even if everything else was all wrong.
“You’re the most beautiful bride in the world,” he breathes against your ear.
A gentle hue brightens your cheek. You smile, and you believe him. And you feel like it, too. If it only lasts for a fraction of a second.
It is still not your mother’s dress.
The dress was adorned with ruffles all the way around the top of the sweet-heart neckline and sleeves, and also all along the bottom. The garment also had multiple layers. One layer was of a lavender color. There was also a layer on top of that, which was made of a more sheer-material and had stripes of off-white and lavender. This second layer was subtle enough to add shiny detail, without taking away from the beautiful purple color. The dress also had a sash of the second layer’s same material, around the waist. My garment was rich in

In the case of Tissot’s The Lady in Pink, her dress is not for public as in “general public” like one might think. Rather this dress is referred to as an “indoor” dress, a dress that would not be worn out on the streets but for entertaining guest. Unlike the pink peignoir of Manet’s Young Lady from 1866 (fig. 2), Tissot’s figure is adorned in the most in-demand fashion of the time. While Manet’s young lady is presented to us in her dressing gown, Tissot’s young lady is in an elaborate gown donned with metallic elements which were made to be seen. Tissot’s lady in pink is not dressed to aid in her own private reflection, but dressed for the viewer’s consumption.
Vera is mainly known for her gorgeous wedding dresses. She has produced various gowns; each with their unique design. Because it catered to so many peoples’ interests, Vera began to design more than just wedding dresses. She started to make evening gowns. Celebrities quickly started to endorse her products so much so that Vera started to create accessories and outfits for men as well. Her collection for men is called “Black by Vera” while her collection for women is called “White by Vera.” Since her clothes are very tasteful, yet expensive, she decided to create a collection that was very simple, chic and affordable for a large majority of their audience. Another one of her projects was her very own book. This book was called Vera Wang on Weddings. In this book, Vera talks about how to plan the perfect wedding as well as how to look like the perfect bride.
The “little black dress” has become a staple for every woman’s wardrobe. It was designed to be simple, versatile and affordable. The “little black dress” was cut in a black crepe with a high neckline, long fitted sleeves and hemline that stopped just above the knee and paired well with long white pearls. It was known as a fashion basic that every woman must have in her wardrobe. The concept for the dress was that it could be worn during the day as a more casual outfit or dressed up as elegant evening wear. Although the color black was previously used for mourning she made it chic and
The photographs she used in the book help heighten and illuminate text as well. This book is a great resource for those who are interested in Victorian mourning especially with her great research using material culture and its influence on the social strata, but could be used more as a reference book. Her credentials and research on this material is greatly shown by providing valuable literature on the history of mourning costume as well as providing the comparisons from different cultures. The construction flow of the book balances out with its organization when discussing the different time periods and
At the beginning of the story Arlene and her daughter, Champ, are at K-Mart. Arlene is looking for makeup and hair dye that will go with a dress that she is borrowing. This is where Viramontes first uses the phrase “it sounds right”. Now think, will this color go good with Pancha’s blue dress? – Pancha is Arlene’s comadre. Since Arlene has a special date tonight, she lent Arlene her royal blue dress that she deeps in a plastic bag at the end of her closet. The dress is made of chiffon, with satin-like material underlining, so that when Arlene first tried it on and strutted about, it crinkled sounds of elegance. The dress fits too tight. Her plump arms squeeze through, her hips breathe in and hold their breath, the seams do all they can to keep the body contained. But Arlene doesn’t care as long as it sounds right. (1-526 ) Here is a woman who tries on a dress that makes her feel young and beautiful. And, takes her back in my opinion to a time that outer beauty came naturally.
I don't remember how or where we are standing anymore. The only thing I remember: his gaze towards me is oblique.
“ Because of its sober styling the little black dress enhances the personality of the women wearing it.” Hubert de Givenchy
The ballroom at the Yacht Club was decorated with deep red roses and black ribbons, the perfect combination of colors for a winter wedding. Long, tall windows covered the walls to let all the guests experience the view of the nearby ocean. Each round table was decorated with a long black underskirt cloth, a shorter bright white tablecloth, with each placemat arranged around a beautiful vase full of red roses. The wooden dance floor, full of chairs for the ceremony, took up half of the room, while the other half was occupied with 15 round tables and one rectangular Head Table. As the guests walked up the stairs to our ballroom, they would see a guest book that was decorated with pictures and captions and ready for their signatures.

My mind wanders to a year earlier, a happier time, when we sat on this very same couch. I looked nervously in his eyes unable to hold my stare, unable to look away. I surrendered myself to the magic of love. I struggled to say the words "I love you" for the first time. But, soon thereafter, they came with an ease. He dominated my thoughts from the first time we touched, The little numerical codes on my pager of I love you, I miss you, and the voice mails of "Just thinking of you" and "Just wanted to say hi" gave me a sense of importance.
