The world continues to engage on the veracious debate of whether a leader is really born or nurtured. Irrespective of your opinion concerning this debate, it is agreeable that whether born or made, some kind of training is unavoidable.
Experience is nothing else but the training. The wise see it as the best teacher. A person who lacks experience will not be in a position to deliver. You only do something right when you know how to do it. Knowing how to do it comes from the experience somebody has amassed over the years. This confirms why the effectiveness of young people in public leadership is wanting.
Public leadership does not request but rather demands experience. This aspect is lacking nearly in all young people. Experience is something, which result from a series of many years’ encounters. This then goes beyond and instills in somebody new measures to encounter future challenges. If you have not encountered a new challenge then it would be very difficult to prepare for it in future. Young people have not experienced as much as the older people have. It is the challenges that make people sit down and draw the big picture of where they want to belong in coming days.
Young leadership cannot be discussed without mentioning Andy Rajoelina; the youngest president Madagascar has ever seen. President Rajoelina presents every reason as to why public leadership needs experience and that age is a major factor to consider. When he got power, Madagascar went into a political turmoil and military confusion. He did not have the right experience to handle the situation. Warren Bennis’ novel, On Becoming a Leader, is the book I was able to read. Bennis worked years on this novel constructing it off of one of his former creations. Finally, in Cambridge, Ma Bennis published his story by Perseus publishing. Throughout this book he centers around the search to understand exactly how leaders are made. Bennis uses a unique approach to portraying his opinion. This is not an ordinary “how to” book on becoming a leader. Nor is it an autobiography of one’s personal experience. Bennis was a teacher and student all his life, he has never run a country or even a company. Bennis is not directly reciting his own experiences as a leader. This paper outlines Bennis’ basic thoughts, theories, and his contributions to the field
In conclusion, being a leader may not be all that it is percieved to ...
The vision of leadership that leaders are born made, and not learn to be leaders is still considered but not popular among researchers (Avolio et al, 2013).
As I have developed in my job, school, and as a person, I found that I enjoyed helping others and want to become a leader. This paper will further describe how my experiences and background have shaped the leader I am today.
Leaders show up in infinitely varying circumstances and characters. Typically, each individual has a picture of who they see as a perfect leader, but no leader is perfect for everyone. Different circumstances and different people require different character traits and styles for their leaders to be effective. The coach of a high school football team is not going to have the same character traits or leadership style as a kindergarten teacher. Not only is the scope of a leader’s character limited in the minds of individuals, but the circumstances in which a leader is needed, or in which a good leader could be found, is typically a narrow field in the minds of individuals. When good leaders come to mind, they are often pictured as outgoing, authority-demanding,
On leadership is a book which deserve to be read by us. Although this book use a precise formation to help us to examine a widely comprehensive aspects of the leadership, there are some drawbacks. Gardner cited different examples to talk about leadership, but just in a particular area, that is political area. So,
In order for a leader to be a leader he/she must begin with the assumption that you are the one who matters most. As a leader you have to possess that level of confidence in yourself that you are capable of leading yourself “before you can lead others”. And when you develop this belief then you are better able of affirmative influence “on others”.
Leadership is almost entirely gained through experience. Although many personalities are more suitable for leadership or less, like being good at time management (as good) or very quiet (as bad), there is almost nothing in a persons behavior as a leader that comes from external forces
Each population requires empowerment. That begins by offering opportunities for leaders to demonstrate their potential. First steps like creating shared documents, developing training materials, providing training to other providers, taking on supervisory responsibilities, and designing and participating in program evaluations open opportunities. Focusing and identifying the strengths in individuals and matching their talent to opportunities boosts confidence and builds leadership capacity in team members. Nurturing staff members as they take on leadership activities gives me the opportunity to mentor and coach. In doing so, I am growing as a leader, and so is the staff member. My role demands that I provide knowledge and skills when needed to fill any gaps that exist among developing leaders. At all levels of leadership, individualized and relevant training builds confidence. When training is dynamic, it requires continual monitoring to adjust to current needs. My leadership position gives me the opportunity to offer feedback and support to senior administrators during change initiatives so that they can tailor their leadership work in a way that supports the initiative, as well as the development of the leaders in their

Leaders is an effective tool for summarizing and inspiring leadership, not in that it teaches tough strategies and manipulations, but that when looking at an overview of its content, Bennis and Nanus are essentially teaching human relations and human decency. All in all, this book highlights strategies for us all to be better in our lives and our everyday interactions.
Even though our world is constantly changing as shown in the video, “Did You Know?”, the way our leaders lead has been fairly constant. The traits and qualities past leaders such as Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King had are the same traits the leaders we look up to today have. Good leaders are aware of our continuously shifting world and have learned to adapt to what works best for those around them. The book, Learning as a Way of Being, discusses how as leaders we must be prepared for the changes that are constantly occurring in our society. We need to always be open to learning new things and how to best adapt to the environment around us. The more experiences we deal with in the past, the more prepared we will be for the changes in the future.
Some people were born to be great leaders and some were born to be great learners. I ask myself this question, “How was I created?” Was I born a leader or was I molded to lead. As I explain my philosophy on how I want to lead, I will first dive into my past to recognize and pin point my creator. October 27th 2004 I raise my right hand in order to serve and protect the United State against all enemies, foreign and domestic. At this moment in my young personal leadership journey, I get my first glimpse of a leadership style, “shut up and listen.”
