There are many stories that follow Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey, and tells the tale of a Heroic character. These fables introduces us to heroes that begin their journey in an ordinary place, then receive a call to enter an unknown world full of bizarre powers and peculiar events. These heroes often display great traits, such as bravery or intelligence, that defines their character. One of these heroic's tales is Haroun and the Sea of Stories, telling the adventures of a young man named Haroun. This essay will prove that Haroun from Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie is a hero, because he possess heroic qualities. Haroun shows his heroic qualities by overcoming obstacles, helping his friends, and having good intentions.
Carl Jung once said, “One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for growing plant and for the soul of the child.” Siddhartha, a novel by Hermann Hesse, follows Siddhartha through his life stages. While Siddhartha searches for enlightenment and Nirvana; going from Brahmin, to the rich, then to having nothing. The audience can read about his struggles and sufferings that guide him to enlightenment.
The Yamabushi are a type of Japanese goblin, most commonly in the form of ascetic monks who live high in the mountains in seclusion. They are very powerful warriors with magical powers. Different forms of Yamabushi can be seen in various different cultures. Modern day Yamabushi are mountain monks who are followers of the Shugendo religion. The name Yamabushi literally means “one who lies/hides in the mountains”. The Yamabushi began as isolated clusters of mountain hermits and monks, who followed the path of Shugendo. Through the following of Shugendo, the Yamabushi searched for “spiritual, mystical, and supernatural powers.” (Yamabushi). They gained these powers through asceticism.

Arieh Klein was a Jew born in 1927 in Zilina, Slovakia. During the Slovak National Uprising in 1944 Arieh’s parents got a phone call to escape Slovakia because the Germans were advancing. Arieh’s family moved to the village of Kaliste. The Germans, however, also arrived in Kaliste, and the Klein’s were advised to stay in a cottage with the rest of the village. However, Arieh’s father didn’t go out of fear of it being too dangerous with so many people in one place. He made a good decision because every person in that cottage was killed. A year had passed. Arieh went to the other side of the village and his leg was shot in some crossfire. He went to an abandoned house, occupied by 2 other boys, in order to bandage his wounds. The German’s then followed Arieh to the house, set it on fire, and shot the 2 other boys. Arieh escaped, barely, and went back to his parents, but his mom died of typhoid that day. Arieh then went to the hospital for his leg only to find out that it needed to be amputated. From these pictures we’re basically the same kids. We both have stuffed animals and we’re both are 3 in the pictures, but the boy on the left lost most of his family, his leg, and suffered only because he was a Jew.
Imagine living in a dark and scary world. People are frequently trying to hurt you. Demons speak to you from the shadows. You fear you may kill people with your thoughts. Then imagine you had to step out of the house every day and function like everyone else. How would you accomplish such a thing? Is it even possible? Indeed, while it seems improbable, Elyn Saks shows us that it is not impossible. Saks holds multiple degrees from prestigious universities and has a satisfying career in higher education. She has a close group of friends who cherish her and a husband who accepts her for who she is. Not only is Elyn Saks a woman with schizophrenia functioning in the world, she is functioning perhaps better than most.
“Stay positive, keep smiling and one day you’ll see that anything’s possible and you can make your dreams come true.” (Wordbypicture) -Phora Who is this Phora guy you might be asking? This guy’s real name is Marco Anthony Archer, but mostly known as Phora. “Phora was born and raised in the city of Anaheim,CA, where he began to pursue rap at seven years of age after recording his first track with his father. Growing up, he was strongly influenced by both his father and graffiti to make music. He is currently dominating the west coast Hip Hop scene, dropping quality music for the public and continuing to grow his massive following.” (Genius) My honest opinion about Phora is that he is truly dominating the west coast with his rap. That bad rap like what most of the kids in this generation listen to is nothing compared to his music. His
To be honest, describing Waghar shouldn’t be as difficult, because she’s my one good friend in Oakville and I see her all of the days of the week. I think that I’m having trouble with describing her because I’m worried that no one will see her the way I see her. Waghar is typically very classy with the clothing she wears to school; she always has matching socks, this is something we’ve had an entire conversation about before. Waghar’s parents are from South Sudan and she often talks about her family that still there. Waghar has an upright posture when she walks and her body language gives off the feeling that although she’s small in size and often blends in, she’s someone you should definitely pay attention to because you can learn from her.
