Power of Belief Whatever you do, you have to believe in it. Believing in something is powerful experience, while it doesn’t make it true, it makes it important. There is evidence of this in ancient history. In ancient China people believed in the Xia dynasty, which was supposedly the first Chinese dynasty. This belief in this dynasty, gave rulers the absolute power, laid the basis for traditional Chinese values and culture and helped stabilize China for centuries. Historians are skeptical that such a dynasty ever existed, and rather belief it to be myth, but he fact that it is a myth is not important, simplifying by believing in this dynasty made them real in a sense. The myth of Xia dynasty laid the foundation for a culture that still exists today, because people believed the dynasty truly existed. This is also true of public speaking and performing, believing you can do it is half the battle. People that believe they can succeed, appear confident; with straight backs and friendly faces,they speak louder, in soothing and argumentative tones, and are more likely to convince people of their side of the issue. However in my experience, the possible existence of god or higher power isn’t what matters, it’s the belief of the higher power. When someone cannot draw strength from within themselves, they turn to other sources, and religion is dually both a personal source and outside source. People can draw strength from their god, while it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are receiving any additional strength, they believe they are, and so they do.
