My concept of intellectual perseverance is rooted in the ideal that a good leader should have a winning spirit and determination to overcome all obstacles. This type of leadership is not for the weak of heart. He or she should set the pace for others and be dogmatic in their pursuit for success. Thus, the leader should be strong willed, tenacious, and able to apply intellectual perseverance as a mean of setting the standard. What is Intellectual Perseverance? While are numerous ways to define intellectual perseverance, such as my personal definition, the official definition is exceptionally detailed. This trait also associates with a leader’s conviction and willingness to admit failure or when he was wrong. This keeps a good leader honest and hinders him from becoming a leader who portrays a false image of himself to the public. Intellectual Autonomy A leader with autonomy stands firm in his beliefs and values, and he examines them to confirm that they are of sound reason are rational to believe (Criticalthinking.org, 2014). Thinking for oneself and taking charge of his thought processes is essential. A leader who does this is committed to analyzing when to conform to other schools of thought and beliefs. Intellectual Integrity A leader with this trait recognized the need to be true to him own thinking and consistent with the intellectual standards that he sets. He holds himself to the same stands as he would expect others to adhere to. Intellectual Perseverance Finally, intellectual perseverance, as mentioned in the previous definition, is the cognizance of the needing to use intellectual truths and insights, while disregarding adversities, frustrations, and complications. Despite irrational opposition of others, a good leader must possess a firm loyalty to rational principles. He must be able to struggle with difficult decisions that may even confuse him and require a long periods of time to evaluate in order to attain the best solution, as well as gain a deeper understanding or comprehension. The Importance of Intellectual Perseverance in Everyday Life Intellectual perseverance will definitely play a key role in overcoming difficulties that may present itself during the period of this course.
