In the radiology profession first you must write the patient’s file. This includes information about insurance, medical history, what the required x-ray is for and where it is going to be taken on the body. Writing in this way is similar to writing a small research paper. You must do research on the patients and there history and what insurance they have. Writing the report is important because the information must be accurate so the patient can be helped as much as possible. If the information about medical history is incorrect it can cause a huge problem for the patient. For example, if the patient is claustrophobic they would need to get an open room x-ray where the patient isn’t in an enclosed tube so they don’t have a panic attack and potentially injure themselves and others. I was questioning what each one is like. Unfortunately, Debbie has only worked with Children and long-term care facilities. She acknowledged me of the fact that children may be harder to work with especially when they’re in pain, but she did enjoy it very much. She prefers doing long-term care facilities due to the variety of patients. The general responsibility of the radiographer or Rad Techs are capturing images of organs, bones, or tissues for patient diagnosis. There are many ways to complete the responsibilities of a radiographer they use x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasounds, nuclear medicine, and computed tomography scans and mammography. Using these different types of scans and help them achieve the best patient diagnosis and care they can provide. Radiographers asses, diagnose and help treat patients for injury and diseases. In order to do this, they need to be able to prepare and safely position patients to get accurate images for the diagnosis for injuries and diseases. Basically, the general responsibility of a radiographer is to take images for their patients in order to help treat and diagnose various injuries.
I have visited and shadowed five different hospitals that are listed on the clinical list. They include Hays Medical Center, Olathe Medical Center, Ransom Memorial Hospital, Salina Regional Health Center, and University of Kansas Hospital. The visits have been very important in reassuring my decision to pursue a career in Radiology. I saw different kinds of scans, such a chest x-rays, abdominal x-rays, a loopogram, an X-ray fistula, upper GI fluoroscopies, a barium enema, and CT scan of the head and abdominopelvic region. Some of these scans were done in the patient’s room, in outpatient rooms, or in the emergency room. During these observations, I learned that the pace of the day can change within minutes. It can be slow due to patients not showing up for appointments, then it can get busy when those patients show up later. I also saw that it is important to have patients remove anything that would create artifact on the image. One of the most important aspects of being a radiologic technologist that I observed was the social skills needed to interact with patients.
