Having an impact on an individual’s life is their worldview. A worldview influences your thoughts and . This is their point of view and how they interpret and relate to the world. It shapes their interactions and behaviors to those around them (Waddell, 2014). One key element to an individual’s worldview relates to ethics. These may be shaped by what someone believes and what they have experienced while growing up. Ethics is an individual’s morals, their sense of what is right and what is wrong (Hiles & Smith, 2014).

a position on his team as a starter. He notices that some of his teammates are experimenting with performance enhancing drugs. The drugs they are using are not banned, non-detectable in tests, and little is known about them, so the teams coach lets the use continue because the substance is not yet illegal. Paul sees that these drugs are providing remarkable results for his teammates while he himself feels he is getting left behind by their enhanced performance. Even Paul’s coach mentions to him that if a change does not take place in his performance, he may lose his starting position. Soon after Paul’s friend offers him the drug so that he may catch up with the rest of the team. Paul is now facing an ethical dilemma.
He has two options in his situation, each with a possible outcome that is not ideal. Paul can take the performance enhancing drugs to ensure his starting position on the team or he can continue training without the drugs and risk losing his position. If Paul takes the drugs he may guarantee himself a starting position, but taking the drugs is cheating, they can be dangerous, and how long until the league catches up to the use and begins testing for them (Petersen & Kristensen, 2009)? Making ethical decisions means excusing self-interest and following God’s teachings, executing the right decision and bringing you closer to God. This ultimately leads to an eternal afterlife with Him (Hiles & Smith, 2014). Resolution In the Christian Bible it says, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity” (Proverbs 2:6-7). It is through this scripture that it shares God gives His wisdom when we seek to him through the Bible. Through reading His scriptures you will receive His knowledge about what you are seeking. When you are facing an ethical dilemma, seek God through prayer and seek what the Bible shares about your situation. It is then up to you to act on the situation with the right ethical and moral decision. They will execute their decision as well with the knowledge that God will protect them through the process as they continue to follow his teachings (Sandoval, 2007). In his ethical dilemma Paul should pray and read the scriptures of the bible. Through doing so, Paul will be given the knowledge and strength from God to deny the use of the performance enhancing drugs. Paul will have to work twice as hard as his teammates to keep up, but it is the ethical thing to do. Evaluation In the proposed resolution there are unintended consequences and perceived benefits. Paul’s consequence is if he decides to take the performance enhancing drugs they may have an impact on his health, the eventual development of testing for the drug could result in him being known as a cheater, and ultimately he can lose his position on the team from the drug use. The perceived benefits for Paul for following his ethical decision include the satisfaction from the dedication of hard work to remain on the team, his health, his honesty, and when testing is eventually developed for detection of the drug he will get to remain on the team and advance. Through the Christian worldview there are also perceived consequences and benefits. Paul will have to face God on judgment day and explain how he sinned in self-interest to move forward with the team or he can be rewarded for making the right ethical choice and following Gods teachings. Comparison The Christian based protocol to coming to a resolution is similar to other worldviews.
The individual in the ethical dilemma weighs out their options in the situation and the potential outcomes of their decision. Some worldviews like the Christian worldview believe that that decision may have a much larger impact in the future outside of the given situation. In the Buddhist worldview they believe in karma. It is the well-known what goes around comes around. In the Christian worldview living ethically is following Gods teaching, not committing sin, and rewards an eternal afterlife.
Conclusion
Paul was faced with a difficult ethical dilemma. If Paul embraced the Christian worldview he would have guidance through his decision. He could turn to God and pray seeking out the answer through the Bible. God would be there with him hand in hand as he made this decision. Following his teachings and ultimately being rewarded for the moral choice. When it comes down to an ethical decision, ethics is an individual’s morals, their sense of what is right and what is wrong (Hiles & Smith,
2014).
By looking further into this dilemma using various ethical standpoints allows for a broad understanding of principles and complexity in a specific situation with these paradigms. The focuses are three prominent ethical paradigms such as: teleological utilitarianism, deontological duty theories and virtue based ethics. Each of these three paradigms will be applied to the aforementioned dilemma, each will be evaluated and the best option will be revealed.

Everyone in this world has experienced an ethical dilemma in different situations and this may arise between one or more individuals. I would define the term ethics as moral principles of right and wrong. I believe my religion and spirituality have a lot to do with what I view as right or wrong, or as ethical. Also, my religion is Catholic Christian and I strongly believe in God, so when I am faced with an ethical issue I often times think of what God would view as the right thing to do. For example, I believe in the Ten Commandments, and I believe it is wrong to act in ways against these commandments. “You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, and you shall not steal.” These are commandments numbers six through eight and I believe they are ethical and the right thing to do. This often influences my decisions, and makes me want to do better.
