World hunger is one of the biggest problems in the world today. Even though there is a lot of food in the world, some people do not have access to food because of poverty. So many people die every year because they are in poverty and cannot afford food. Today one in seven people live off of less than one dollar every day. That is more than 14 percent of the world that live in poverty.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary from 1971 hunger is “the uneasy or painful sensation caused by want of food; craving appetite. Also the exhausted condition caused by want of food”. That means that every one in nine people donot get enough nutrition to be healthy and to live a good life. The number one risk to health worldwide is hunger and malnutrition. There are more deaths from the lack of food and nutrition than there are from AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

Studies show that countries lose millions of dollars in economic output to help feed the people that live in poverty. If a woman is well nourished, they will have healthier babies. Their babies will have a stronger immune system for their life. Studies also show that a healthy child is also more likely to attend school than an unhealthy child. In between the 1980’s and the 1990’s there was good progress in trying to reduce hunger.

One person cannot end world hunger by their self, they have to have a group of people and a good plan to help end world hunger. All together we can help end world hunger. Today Haiti, Rwanda, Malawi, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Africa, and many more are heavily affected by hunger, but there are also people in America that are hungry and cannot afford food. There is enough food in the world to feed everybody, but not everybody has money to buy food. 22 countries have pledged to donate to end world hunger. Out of those 22 countries only 5 countries have met their pledge. The cost to end world hunger is less than one percent of the national income. Together we can end world
