Hypothesis: If I workout five times a week then I will gain five pounds of muscle.
Reflection: The data collection in this project has been successful so far, I have been sticking to my independent variable, working out, consistently, except for one week I have swapped one of the weekdays, for a weekend day, saturday, because of exams and assignments that didn’t allow me to have the time to go on a weekday. I have noticed improvements and positive results in my dependent variable, such as muscle gain and weight increase. The most difficult part is allocating sufficient time at the gym to get an effective and complete workout. Working out five days a week is easier than expected once the habit is formed. 6 Week Training Program For my GSCE Coursework I decided to perform a circuit-training programme for the sport of tennis. This durated for six weeks. I am already an experienced tennis player so this is to be taken into consideration with training procedures and results.
Another confound that may impact the results of this study could be the testing effect. Repeated testing may lead to better or worse performance. Changes in performance on the test may be due to prior experience with the test and not to the independent variable. In addition, repeated testing fatigues the subjects, and their performance declines as a result (Jackson, 2012). Because the professor is interested in determining if the implementation of weekly quizzes would improve test scores, an experimenter and/or an instrumentation effect may also affect results.
I will first describe the importance of regular exercise and the downsides of sedentary lifestyle followed by a description of the TTM. Afterwards, I will concentrate on how successful this model was in modifying physical activity in the past. And lastly, I will evaluate the usefulness of TTM in relation to physical exercise and how it could be applied onto a large-scale sample.
People often go through their life working-out and going to the gym to get “buff.” For ninety-five percent of Americans that do work out, few can say that they have pushed themselves as hard as possible, but I have the distinct, and often painful, pleasure of knowing that there is another way to work out. This option is unlike any other that I have ever personally been through; and is a way that I would not wish on any average American. 4:55 a.m. Seventeen degrees Fahrenheit, a mild breeze of ten miles per-hour-- for the fifth day in a row and second consecutive month, it is time for me to wake up, make the face-numbing, core-hardening walk through the snow to the Mildred and Louis Lasch Football Building.
Nutrition, I have learned plays a big part in our life. To be honest I was clueless about how much nutrition affected our everyday lives. I love going to the gym working out, now that I know what should go into my diet I think I will see a lot more improvement. I occasionally follow the latest diet fads because I believed it would be better for my health, but in turn it really hurt more than it helped! This Diet Analysis project has been extremely useful course because I can personally relate to it and can use much of the information learned to my daily routines. The Diet Analysis project was a real eye opener because it let me see what exactly I was putting into my diet.
Throughout the Diet Analysis Project, I was able to analyze and inspect my diet to examine what I was eating, what types of nutrients I was getting and how much exercise I was participating in over a week’s period. Through this period, five of the days were back to back and the last two was a weekend day. I then compared all aspects with my recommended levels of nutrients for my dietary recommended intake and the calories burned through exercise versus my calories consumed through what I was eating. I needed to ensure the nutrients I was getting would allow a good fit for staying healthy and reaching, but not overextending, my needed nutrient levels. During my body transformation, I have learnt new qualities about myself and superseded my own expectations. A couple of years ago, I was overweight and had a very unhealthy lifestyle, I used to play video games for about 10 hours per day, eat junk food, and rarely leave my bedroom. ...e completely healthy attempting to avoid my punishment and then there were days where I ultimately caved and failed at eating well. On those days, I followed the rules I set in place and worked out as I said I would that evening. Part of the time my boyfriend would inevitably cause me to falter by cooking a nice fattening meal, but I don’t blame him at all considering it was up to me to make the decision to refrain from eating it. I probably didn’t do as well as I could have around lunch time or dinner but I’m glad at the fact that I did keep away from sweets and snacks throughout the entire week. I was really intrigued with getting good results for this project so I tried my hardest to actually follow the program set. Even if I don’t keep with this change after the project it’s very comforting to know I CAN eat healthy when I want and I CAN workout if I need too.
Keeping track of what I ate for three days forced me to be held accountable. Few people realize just what they eat on a daily basis. Seeing the food log and the analysis helped me have a better understanding of what I put into my body and what my body needs on a daily basis as far as energy and nutrients. The analysis gave a summary for calories, food groups, and nutrients, both macro and micronutrients.
As with any experimental model, this study included an independent variable, a dependent variable, and control measures. An independent variable is a condition that is manipulated in an experiment in order to produce a direct effect on something or on a living participant. A dependent variable is the effect produced due to manipulation of the independent variable, and it is measured to determine if a causal relationship exists in nature between these variables. In this experiment, the independent variable was the color uniform the athletes wore. The dependent variable was physical capability, and this was measured in several distinct ways. The strength was examined before the fight, and the heart rate was measured before, during, and after competing in the combat sport. As a control measure, the strength and heart rate before the fights were not only measured when participants wore red and blue, but also when they were wearing their regular training clothes to assess how, or if, their physical capabilities had changed due to the color of the outfit. While replacing food rich in fat and carbohydrates with protein, John must also increase his physical activities. In other words, he must shift from a sedentary lifestyle to an active one. However, this does not require him to make the drastic change. In fact, one study emphasizes that an abrupt shift to an active lifestyle may come as a shock for those trying to lose weight, which can discourage them from sustaining an active lifestyle in the long run because they might find the change tiring or one that requires too much effort (Simpson, Shaw and McNamara 46). Thus, the change must be gradual. The body as well as the mind must be allowed to adjust. For example, John may start by including longer walking time in his daily routine. From a mere twenty minutes of walking per day, he may increase it to twenty-five or thirty minutes, depending on his preference and endurance. He may also try to take short walks during breaks from office work. The whole point of increasing John’s physical activities is for him to burn more calories than in previous days. This is because regular calorie intake coupled with a sedentary lifestyle can increase body fat and, therefore, weight (Simpson, Shaw and McNamara
