Women in Neolithic Societies

​Women's roles in farming and gathering in early Neolithic societies were equal to men's with the jobs and roles they held. The equality was there because both men and women were farming and only women worked in textile weaving. Both men and women earned prestigious titles and there was no dominance from either gender. However, in some villages in later societies, there was no equality in families because women had no social lives and had to care for the children because they were controlled by the men. As we look and think about the history of this time period, there were a couple of major influences on women and their roles in society. One of the major influences was the Agricultural Revolution. In the beginning, the advancements in agriculture gave both men and women jobs in the fields. One of the major advancements was the invention of the plow. The plow was helpful in agriculture because it made planting crops easier for people. It also made it possible for them to have more crops with bigger areas to farm.
​Agriculture was also very important because, once people started to settle down and stopped moving around, they needed more food. They needed more food because there were more people in an area which called for more crops. The need for more crops was aided by the plow. While the plow helped, it posed a problem for women since the plow required more muscle than they possessed. This created fewer jobs in the fields and they stayed at home watching their kids and doing housework. Since this invention caused them to stay at home, they lost their social
