Women’s Rights
“Afghan women unfortunately do not know who they are. They should go to school. Each father should send their daughter to school. They should become educated mothers like ones here in America” (Langary 35). This is a quote stated by 33 year old Nadia, a woman that used to live in Afghanistan, but now lives in America. She is one of the very lucky few. Girls that are living in Afghanistan now unfortunately cannot go to school, nor will they ever become educated mothers because of the men that control and abuse them. That is why America should intervene in Afghanistan to help women go to work, go to school, and help them gain justice for the harsh abuse they suffer from men on a daily basis. However, there are many people that may argue against America intervening in Afghanistan to promote gender equality. People may think intervention would waste time and money trying to help the women in Afghanistan. Citizens in America may think that they spent way too much time in Afghanistan and should focus on other countries in need. Since the terrorist attack on the United States on September 11th, 2001, America has gone to war and many troops are still deployed to this day. Many people think that America should bring troops home from the Middle East before they even attempt to help the women in Afghanistan. A reason why America should help women in Afghanistan is because they cannot work. Before the Taliban came and took away women’s rights, women could work. Women in Afghanistan had wonderful jobs Women were doctors, teachers, lawyers, writers, and so much more. Women also helped with the draft of the constitution, and there were female legislators...

...ly, there are no laws to protect women from domestic violence in Afghanistan. There is actually a law giving men the right to abuse their female family members (Life as an Afghan woman). This is a very severe problem in Afghanistan, and women are basically treated like prisoners on death row. That is why America needs to save these women from those men who hurt them.
There is a major problem affecting Afghanistan today. Women are not allowed to go to school to receive an education. They are not allowed to work, so they can support their family; and they are abused and mistreated by men on a daily basis. If America could spend money and get involved in the issues that concern Afghanistan when it comes to women’s rights, women could actually live a safe life, human rights could be restored, and the women that suffer now in Afghanistan will not suffer any more.
