The Harsh Treatment of Women in Afghanistan
Since the tragedies of September 11th 2001, Americans have really opened their eyes to the political state of Afghanistan. The poor treatment of women in Afghanistan is an issue that, for many Americans, just seems to be coming to light as a serious concern that requires outside attention. Extreme Islamic leaders in the country persist in limiting the freedom that Afghan women have. Women in the Taliban-controlled country suffer unusually hideous acts of torment and are forced to abide by outrageous regulations because of stringent enforcement methods. Afghan women daily live lives restricted by Taliban law and risk having to endure cruel punishment and torture, yet Afghan political leaders continue to justify the their treatment of Afghan women.

In October 2000, Meena Gardizi was forced to flee her home in Kabul, Afghanistan because of death threats and persecution from by the Taliban. These threats were made not only to her, but also to her brother and sister-in-law because of Ms. Gardizi. Ms. Gardizi left behind her beloved brother, the only biological family she had left, and his wife in attempts to distance herself from them for their own safety. As a young woman, Ms. Gardizi could not and can not protect herself from the Taliban and their zealots. The government cannot keep her safe. Ms. Gardizi seeks asylum in the United States so that she will not be forced to return to her country, where the Taliban will almost certainly find and murder her.
Charlemagne is described by Janet Nelson as being a role model for Einhard. Einhard himself writes in the first paragraph of The Life of Charlemagne, “After I decided to write about the life, character and no small part of the accomplishments of my lord and foster father, Charles, that most excellent and deservedly famous king, I determined to do so with as much brevity as I could.” I feel that these are sincere words about the man who cared for Einhard. I feel that Einhard’s purpose for writing The Life of Charlemagne is to praise the works of his “foster-father” and create a historical document that would describe the great deeds of Charlemagne so that he would not be forgotten throughout time as a great leader and man.
It is difficult to realize the harsh standards and obligations imposed upon women of different cultures. It is especially disappointing to note that women whom may seek to relieve themselves of such discriminatory practices, face little to no government support in terms of fighting inequality. Such as distinguished in text The War Against Feminism, women of Algeria must fight against patriarchal and incredibly sexist political movements, such as the “Islamic Salvation Front,” which although was banned, had won an election and the promotion of their platform’s ideas despite their notions consisting of extreme patriarchal views and their actual assassinations of individuals not compliant with their beliefs. I also strongly agreed with the United Nations decision to aid individuals from fear of the Taliban, in their stating of refusing to continue aid to Afghanistan if intense cruel practices were to continue. David Entwistle's (2010) Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity is geared more towards Christians with conservative evangelical views and provides the reader an outline to different worldview disputes and truth-seeking groundwork that surround the connection that underlies psychology and theology. In addition to analyzing the possible connection of psychology and theology, Entwisle discusses the consideration of integrating Christian faith with the practice of psychology. “Christian understandings of person-hood, the purpose of human life, our need for God, and the ethical teachings of Christian faith are integral to psychology, not merely parallel to it” (p. 199). Entwistle’s viewpoint on this matter is stated clearly. He believes that it is necessary for theology and psychology be integrated in order to fully understand human nature.
Lila Abu-Lughod’s article titled, “Do Muslim Women Really Need Saving?” takes a closer look at the problematic ethnocentric approach many have when trying to gain an understanding of another culture that may be foreign to that individual. In this analytical paper, Lughod looks at women in Islam, specifically the treatment of women and how it might be utilized as a justification for invading into a country and liberating its people. The country Lughod refers to in her article is Afghanistan, and Lughod points out the misunderstanding from the people to the Bush administration like First Lady Laura Bush who believed that intervention was necessary to free women from the captivity of their own homes. It is important to consider the role that different lenses play into all of this, especially when one’s lenses are being shaped by the media. Depictions of covered women secluded from society leave a permanent image in the minds of many, who would then later support the idea of liberation. This paper will discuss that the practice of using propaganda when referring to the lifestyle in the Middle East is not exclusive to the U.S; rather it has been utilized throughout history. Additionally, we will take a closer look on the importance of symbols, such as veils in this case; help to further emphasize the cause to liberate. Finally, we will analyze Lughod’s plea towards cultural relativism and away from liberal imperialism.
Islam has influenced many cultures around the world. For centuries, Islam has had an immense influence on the Afghan culture. According to this religion, women have no rights. The men took advantage of this system by translating only what they wanted from the Koran; to enslave the women in our culture for their own desires. From the beginning, the women on no account had any civil rights or have power over their own lives, and most were uneducated and had accepted what their teachers taught in schools and mosques. My family moved to the US when the Russians invaded Afghanistan. I thank god to be one of the lucky women who did not have to live in Afghanistan and for giving me a better place to live in America. Unfortunately, this was not the case for the majority of the Afghan women. Under the cruel Taliban government the women were banned to work, and were not allowed outside their homes without being escorted by a man. The film Osama, inspired by a true story, is about Osama, a young girl who did lived in Kabul while the Taliban regime. Through Osama's story, I had a chance to see what it was like to live in Afghanistan as a woman. This is a story of a girl whose faith was in the hands of many different people: her family, the Taliban soldiers, and the city judge. Osama and I have different lives on different continents; however, we both could have had more rights and better life if we were born men.

In Afghanistan, the police force continues to torture and rape innocent women for unnecessary reasons. This is similar to The Handmaid's Tale in that Offred, and other handmaids, not only go through the devestation of "The Ceremony", but also can be used and possibly even raped by their Commanders, and there is nothing the handmaid can do about it. If she speaks, she is usually not believed, and then she is sent away because she broke the law. The handmaid would usually die for making such accusations. Women are given little to no rights in Gilead.
The main topic of this topic is to tackle whether Christian lordship should take a place within the field of psychology. In the modern day counseling, most psychologist influence both Christian and science belief. Otherwise many believe that psychology is based on science and theories (cm. Atkinson, Atkinson, Smith, and Ben, 1990; Kalat, 1993; Wade and Travis, 1993) therefore, Christian belief should not have a place in psychology. In my option I believe the counselor should not take the first step in approaching a Christian method unless the clients request it or ignite it first. Also I believe that the counselor should not focus more on the Christian view of a person problem if that person is not a Christian. If that person doesn’t have the knowledge of a Christian life, then what the counselor speak on will began to feel as if they are preaching and that would be harmful towards the client. With that being said counselors are not to teach certain beliefs or values that they believe is doing right (Corey, 1993).

The subject of intersection between psychology and faith seems to have a special significance for those seeking to revise the integrity of learning in their own lives. We have two highly conflicting ways of learning: the first is religion and the second is science. These two are constantly in conflict: the average scientist lives in a world that is nominally religious while the average Christian lives in a world that is nominally administered by science.
Literature is a mirror as well as a hammer. Literature does address both questions in different ways. Literature is a mirror, since it helps us understand our identities and purposes in our life. We seek answers to who we are and how shall we live. Literature in both the novels mirrors the life, culture and civilization of the people. The thoughts of the great become the part of the literature. We get the feelings of happiness or pain that is possessed by the characters in the novel. We read the literature and we take it whether it is good or evil. It is comforting to read of the travails and the joys of characters who struggle with the same issues that we encounter. So, literature is a mirror, as we discover ourselves and our lives reflected in the characters. It is amazing, that we can see ourselves and glimpses of our own experiences that were written centuries before our birth.
In this recent New York Times’ article, Katrin Behold highlights the motives and complex minds of three young Muslim girls from Bethnal Green, East London. These girls embark on a perilous journey to Syria seeking morality outside of their accustomed religion. Young women of the Muslim religion are beginning to succumb to the direction of Isis, this is due impart to extreme restrictions that are being imposed on them by their community.
