A woman can effectively lead change in many ways, but for that change to be truly effective, the cause must be something that she feels passionately about and is willing to fight for. She should be outspoken about the cause that she believes in and be willing to spearhead the movement. In addition, she should be prepared to be a role model for those around her. Women in positions of power can draw a large audience, and she should use that audience to her advantage. Finally, she should be able to stand up against the inevitable backlash that occurs whenever change is taking place. Have you ever wondered how women helped our country? There was and still are women who changed or change the world today. Like Shirley Muldowney,and Rose Will Monroe, or Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony, maybe Hillary Clinton. Some of these women changed little things and some changed big things, but they all made a difference in their own way.
In Canada, women make up slightly more than half of the population. However, throughout Canadian history and modern day, women are needing to stand up for themselves and other women to bring about change. Canadian women are strong and have the power to work together and bring about change. Jennie Trout stood up for Canadian women that wanted to be in the medical field, women during WWI made a difference in their lives by entering the workplace and standing for their right to work, Nellie McClung was a leader for women’s suffrage, and The Famous Five campaigned and won The “Persons” Case allowing women to be considered persons under the Canadian Constitution. These women were instigators of change. Change for women only occurs when ambitious and courageous women stand up for a difference that they deserve.
Have you ever went to sleep and woke up, wanting to make a change? It might not be a big change, but it can be something that is beneficial to you and other people. Sometimes you might not know where to start, and it can be tough. We as human beings all have this mindset where we are scared of change. We are already comfortable and use to what’s there and changing it can be risky because we don’t know the outcomes. In the book entitled Abina and the Important Men, by Trevor R. Getz and Liz Clarke is about a woman named Abina, who wakes up one morning and decides that she wants to change the way that women are portrayed in society. We have to truly take initiative in order to express our ideas regarding our feminist movement. We must take all our concerns in order to foster personal liberation and growth. The archaic social, psychological, and economic practices that discriminate against women must be ordeals of the past. We must compose new practices in order to develop a post-revolutionary society. This movement will require strategy, organization, commitment, and devotion; it may be a long battle, but I believe that we will end in triumph.
The woman's rights movement largely contributed to the extent of democratic ideals expansion. Women have never been treated the same as men and documents show how woman were treated back then. Frances Grage wrote, “that man over there, says that women need to be helped into carriages and lifted over ditches” (Doc 7). This shows how in the 1800’s women were looked on as. It’s saying women are incapable of doing things for themselves and need a man to help them. Another example is a picture of a woman under a bridge with her child and the husband crossing the bridge drinking his life away (Doc 4). This document shows the life of typical women during this time. The woman stays at home cleaning the house and caring for the children while the husband goes out drinking and having fun. Another source showed how the women's movement rebelled. “Almost 300 people... arrived at the convention” on July 19, 1848. This is an example of people standing up for their democratic ideals. All these sources make it evident that the woman's rights movement made a big impact on democratic ideals expansion.
In the American society, we constantly hear people make sure they say that a chief executive officer, a racecar driver, or an astronaut is female when they are so because that is not deemed as stereotypically standard. Sheryl Sandberg is the, dare I say it, female chief operating officer of Facebook while Mark Zuckerberg is the chief executive officer. Notice that the word “female” sounds much more natural in front of an executive position, but you would typically not add male in front of an executive position because it is just implied. The fact that most of America and the world makes this distinction shows that there are too few women leaders. In Sheryl Sandberg’s book “Lean In,” she explains why that is and what can be done to change that by discussing women, work, and the will to lead.

Awareness springs activism. When one properly learns of a situation that must be alleviated they can now act to reduce the problem. Courses and organizations on women’s and gender issues are most helpful in spreading awareness throughout the land. As more people become educated on the subject, there is a good chance that a percentage of those people will take action.

Representations of women were a crucial subject of discussion especially in the concepts of the gaze that often refers to women as objects of the active gaze.
