In my book The Winter People and in the show Sons of liberty they both show When you are a leader you are stronger when you are protecting/fighting for someone you love/care for and how does that change our future and how we live today. One thing that i think that they both show is how they are being a leader to protect who they care for. For example in both my book and the show they both are fighting for freedom and what Saxso does to show that is he is fighting for his family to protect them and to free them from the people that captured them. I noticed when his family was captured that we was stronger and he was more protective to the people that were still with him because he did not want the same to happen with them. Another example is in the Sons Of Liberty where Sam Adams is fighting for what he believes in and he wants freedom so he is doing everything he can to fight for the freedom he wants he is sacrificing his life to save others. So what i think is that what Sam and Saxso are doing to protect and fight for the people they care about is making them someone that isn’t just an ordinary person it is making them something bigger than what they think they are. …show more content…
When Saxso was on his journey to find his family he ran into a couple problems which didn’t stop him from searching for his family because he was so determined to find them because their would be nothing he could do without them. Another example is in Sons Of Liberty when Sam is stepping up and trying to get rid of taxes that when he is doing that he doesn’t realize how much people want to join him and protect him. As Saxso and Sam notice that they are being a leader they are pushing themselves to go beyond their abilities to do what they can for who they care
Making sure it is a good example is the most important part of being a good leader in your community. The Benchwarmers started with the intention of helping a little boy gain confidence, and that blossomed into a whole community standing by their side to fight against bullies. All the children in the end were taught by great leaders, came together, and accepted each other. Leading by example does not just happen in fictional stories though. It happens every day and in reality, anyone can be that leader. The most important part of being that leader is making sure your example is a good one. Whether reality or fiction, anyone can be a leader with a good example which inspires people, schools, and communities to join
Part 1, The Basics of Leadership, Chapter 1 covers Fundamentals of Leadership while Roles and Relationships are covered in Chapter 2. This section describes and depicts levels of Leadership. We as a military are set apart from other non-military professions in that Soldiers must be prepared to use deadly force and have the courage required to close with and destroy the enemy. All leaders, from non-commissioned officers and warrant officers, to commissioned officers, inherently possess a great responsibility. The repercussions of decisions and actions impact the lives of Soldiers and their families. Additionally, these decisions affect the battlefield environment including enemy and non-combatants, both military and
Many people possess leadership qualities although they don’t rule a country. Meriwether Lewis, the official leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition has been called “undoubtedly the greatest pathfinder this country has ever known.” Just like Hazel, Meriwether Lewis led a group of followers into unknown territory. The two guides faced many difficult situations that they were able to overcome since they had the qualities of a notable leader. Both of the journeys were rough, but because of the brave leaders both expeditions were successful.
In deed on June 6, 1944, the little town of Bedford, VA, suffered a tragedy that would never be forgotten. But through the pain and hardship some of officers who leaded the Bedford boys displayed remarkable leadership’s principles. One of the basic functions of leadership is to unite people: bring people together to achieve common objectives. There is truth in the statement, where there is unity there is strength. This essay will offer a working definition of effective leadership principles and discuss the function of leadership as it relates to followers, motivation and power.
In the book Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card. It shows that to be a successful leader one must be ruthless, strategic and strict.
Leadership can be defined in a myriad of ways; but for the purpose of the question, it is but not limited to the affect someone who takes charge of a group of people with authority or rank; to be an influence to those who look to the leader. In the epic poem, “Beowulf”, there are two different views on leadership based on their leaders {i.e. King Hrothgar and Beowulf). With King Hrothgar, he accepted the help of Beowulf to fight in order to defend the people of the Herodot, “Beowulf my friend/fight for us” (457-458). Due to the understanding of his age, King Hrothgar shows humility and admirable stance, adapts to someone who admires him, allowing Beowulf to fight for the people of Herodot. Beowulf on the other hand, shows his leadership by taking the initiative and offering his aid to King Hrothgar’s people, to fight the demon Grendel, who is terrorizing the people. This leader...
Leadership is portrayed at its pinnacle in William Bratton’s Turnaround, Rudolph Giuliani’s book Leadership, Oren Harari’s book The Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell, and David Lipsky’s book Absolutely American: Four Years at West Point. In each of these works, the author does an exceptional job of depicting the various traits and characteristics necessary for being a powerful and effective leader.
Kouzes and Posner remark that leadership experiences are ?voyages of discovery and adventures of a lifetime?[and] they are challenging explorations under rigorous conditions? (174). While this may be true, it is often in an extreme crisis situation that leadership is ultimately tested. This is the circumstance that Shackleton faced with his crew of twenty-seven, while stranded in the ice floes off the Antarctic Continent. Credit is due to the leadership of Ernest Shackleton; every member aboard the Endurance survived, and was finally rescued after six hundred and thirty-four days. Shackleton said of leadership, ?If you?re a leader, a fellow that other fellows look to, you?ve got to keep going? (qtd. in Morrell and Capparell 215).
“A leader or a man of action in a crisis almost always acts subconsciously and then thinks of the reasons for his action.” (Jawaharlal Nehru) Leaders throughout history have been idolized as the magnificent humans with the ability to sway the heart of man with both silent and thunderous footsteps. One such man being Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Shakespeare dictates that a leader is cunning, sharp minded, and a caring person who is prepared to dedicate their life to a goal and to the people they care for; the reason be “right” or “wrong”.
Our leadership in this world has changed and affected us greatly. Leadership is being about to lead an organization with many people and to have control in the right way. “ The Leader of the Future” a book by Peter F. Drucker gives us information on why and how it is to be such a great leader. We need better leaders and we need them to guide us and help us along the way. Without leadership, our world would be in such danger and we America would be going through a lot.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
The Winter of Our Discontent by John Steinbeck connects explicitly to those in the 1950’s and 60’s. “Novels by Steinbeck communicate differently to different eras” meaning the culture that is represented is appropriate for the time frame it is supposed to take place in (Steinbeck, Steinbecknow.com). The Winter of Our Discontent explores the life of Ethan Hawley as he struggles with his lifestyle that he desperately wishes to change and follows him as he creates a plan to resolve his problems. Steinbeck reflects the culture of the 1950’s and 60’s through his characters, plot and outcomes by utilizing the Common Themes Theory to address the money problems, cunning solutions and varying effects.
Even though our world is constantly changing as shown in the video, “Did You Know?”, the way our leaders lead has been fairly constant. The traits and qualities past leaders such as Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King had are the same traits the leaders we look up to today have. Good leaders are aware of our continuously shifting world and have learned to adapt to what works best for those around them. The book, Learning as a Way of Being, discusses how as leaders we must be prepared for the changes that are constantly occurring in our society. We need to always be open to learning new things and how to best adapt to the environment around us. The more experiences we deal with in the past, the more prepared we will be for the changes in the future.
Nearly four centuries ago, our forefathers poured the foundation for what is now America. We have fought many wars, lost many battles, failed, and prospered. America has been built into the strongest and freest nation in the world by some of the most determined and independent people in history. However, determination and independence are not the most unique qualities of an American, though they are two strong ones. An American is a leader, someone who does not follow in someone else’s footprints but makes their own. Leadership has been a standing characteristic in America since the first Europeans stepped foot on its soil. It took leadership among the colonists-our ancestors-to form successful colonies that eventually became the basis of our country. It took leadership, along with courage, to declare independence from Great Britain over three hundred years ago. It took an immense amount of leadership to overcome the divide created by the Civil War. Events like these have pushed America’s leadership to its greatest limits, but with each tough trial, Americans have been able to rise above and come out stronger.
Finally, leaders are able to keep everything in perspective. They invest themselves fully but also are able to keep their priorities in order. As a child I never understood anything that my mother did or said but now that I am an adult I realize that my mother had a valid reason for everything she did. My entire childhood my mother has molded me to become a great leader and all the lessons that my mother has taught me I can spread the knowledge to my children. Successful leaders keep it all in perspective because they are able to separate the important from the urgent, and devote their time
