William Shakespeare is arguably the most recognizable name in literature. However, William Shakespeare himself probably would not recognize his own name spelled “S-h-a-k-e-s-p-e-a-r-e,” as the Bard probably could not spell his own. There are about six legal documents with Shakespeare’s signatures that have survived over time. Ironically, no two signatures have the same exact spelling. William Shakespeare’s life and contributions to the world were just as unique and diverse as his signatures “Willm Shakp,” “Willm Shakspere”, and “William Shakspeare” (“10 Things You Didn't Know About William Shakespeare”).

As he became more experienced in the business, he became more aware of his word choices and had to widen his horizon. In some of his plays, the characters would improv and would not read word for word from the script. Shakespeare turned to composing verses in the late 1500s. The Globe Theater is said to be the most important structure in Shakespeare's dramatic career. The Chamberlain Company built the Theater in 1599. The Theater was located on the Southern shore of the Thames River in London. Shakespeare, being a member of the Chamberlain Company, became a shareholder in the Theater. Along with Shakespeare, James Burbage, his two sons, and five members of the troupe owned the Globe. This group of men was called Lord Chamberlains Men after a patron of the acting company. In May of 1603, King James I came to see their plays and the troupe changed their name to The King's Men. These people and groups became a living part of the Globe Theatre.

In the year 1599, the Lord or Chamberlain’s Men lead actors including Shakespeare, decided to build the Globe Theater in London. They could not use the Blackfriars Theatre because the residents near it blocked performances there. They were also tired of of renting playhouses. When studied the broadest period of the renaissance was around a speculated 300-400 years long from 1300 to 1600/1700 but the end date is varied among specialists. The two components which were principal, was the revival of the lost greek and roman classical arts. The second component was the focus on humanism and assertion of human importance. During the renaissance era the artists we now know were not recognized as mere artisans, but as there own being, or their own independent self.

Since then, the works of Shakespeare have been studied, analyzed, and enjoyed as some of the finest work of art in the English language.
