Shooting a basketball can take a lot of skill. For some people making a basket is easy for others, it can be difficult. Many say that using the square on the backboard helps the ball go into the hoop. The only way to see if that is true or not is to do multiply experiments. I will test this by having 30 people shoot from the corner, the wing, and the free throw. I will have each shoot 5 shots without the backboard and 5 shots with using the backboard.
First off, even scientists believe that using the backboard helps the ball go through the hoop. They say that it is more effective on close range shots. The power and the spin of the basketball does affect the accuracy of the shot greatly. The force and the angle of the jump shot does have more velocity than a lay-up. A lay-up is based on momentum.
“Sir Isaac Newton came up with the basic laws of physics by watching an apple fall from a tree”( (n.d.). Retrieved March 21, 2014). He came up with a phrase what goes up must come down. So when shooting a basketball the right arc, velocity, and momentum increase the chances of the ball going through the hoop. A big factor in shooting a basketball is pure strength. If a person is weak the ball might not even make it to the hoop. If the person is strong they could shoot the ball perfectly. There is a lot of leg strength that goes into shooting a basketball also, the right amount of leg force can make your shot that much more accurate.
Researchers in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University did experiments and studied which angles can a shot be successfully “banked” in. If a person is shooting the ball from the corner, than it would be pretty hard the bank the shot into the hoop. I have ...

... person. The age of the person might play a factor in this experiment so I will write that down also. A big factor will be the difference between girls and guys. For the girls I use a girls’ basketball and for the guys I will use a guys’ basketball. The ball will make a big factor because girls are used to shooting with their size of ball and guys are used to shooting with their size. A bigger ball I have noticed is harder for a girl to shoot because a girl’s ball is a bit smaller than a guys’ ball so therefore they would have to apply more force when shooting the ball to make it go in.

Research suggests a person’s height does not affect their ability to make a successful jump shot. The ability to make a successful jump shot be determined by the arc in which enters the rim of the basket. When a basketball enters the rim on a 45° angle with a backspin it increases the percentage of a successful jump shot. The height of a basketball player is key when the player is taller, they are able to make more successful defensive blocks and able to get more rebounds of the basketball.
While the length and width of the courts are the same between the two, the three-point line is four feet farther from the basket in the NBA. The NBA’s three-point line also consists of a straight line on both sides leading to a semicircle, whereas the NCAA’s three-point line is simply a semicircle with ends on the baselines. This is the main difference between the two courts, and is the only difference affecting the game
...distance, height, and most importantly, angles. The main thing I will be looking for in my experiment is how much angles play a role in goal scoring and where they come into play the most. Using all of the information I have found about how to kick, the proper distance away from the goal when kicking a foul shot, and the correct dimensions of the goal, I will conduct an experiment with results that are as close to a real soccer game as possible. I will not be using defenders that way I can get a better measurement of the angles I am kicking from.
While the most important parts of being a baller can be debated for years and years. I believe all would agree that you have to be able to put the ball in the hoop. That is why I have spent most of my life learning how to shoot a basketball properly. The process is long and requires using muscles all over your body, but with determination and hard work you will become the best shooter you can be.
Basketball is defined as a game where two teams of five play each on a rectangular court, usually indoors (Basketball/Sport). Basketball was invented by James Naismith on December 1, 1891 (Basketball/Sport). The object of basketball is to shoot the basketball through the opposing team’s basket and to out-score them by end of the regulation time limit. If the score is tied at this time, the game will go into overtime until one team wins. While reading about basketball, I found it interesting that when the sport was invented they would nail baskets to balconies with no backboards. This made it easy for spectators (in the balcony) to help their team by either swatting the
Willie Mays once said “In order to excel, you must be completely dedicated to your chosen sport. You must also be prepared to work hard and be willing to accept constructive criticism. Without one-hundred percent dedication, you won't be able to do this” In order to succeed it’s required to put everything on the line to survive in the world of sports. Without devoting to sports there is no correct path to success. Nobody will be on the level of competition. Dedication also comes into play where people will need to be better in other areas. Technique is another must have to be involved with sports. If its not possible to do something right then try over and over until it is. Speed is needed to be able to get place to place or to shoot a swift shot. Working out lower body will help with strength which comes back to dedication. Therefore, everything comes back to each other and helps be better, faster, harder, and stronger.
If you think about it, it’s almost impossible to measure the force that it takes to dribble a basketball, unless you have the right tools. Let’s just think about the basic physics that you should know. In order to dribble a basketball you need to apply enough force for the ball to go from your hand to the floor and back up to your hand. When the ball is in your hand it is holding potential energy. Potential energy is the energy that is about to be transferred into kinetic energy, which is when the energy is in use. The ball is in kinetic energy after it leaves your hand and starts to fall. So the force of gravity has to be less than the force of the bounce to keep the dribbling going.
...e you a great shooter. Although I suffered injuries in my past basketball career which earned me a basketball scholarship to play collegiate basketball, I am now more knowledgeable about my position. This knowledge has helped me reflect on myself and my experiences as a player transitioning to a coach. I believe it is important that I educate my players and teach them proper mechanics but also mental set. Acknowledge that the jump shot is more than a motion of physical ability and talent, it takes a great amount of thinking and implying the information you already know to what you learned. All coaches throughout the country regardless of their level should have knowledge of biomechanics and require there staff to also know the following information. This allows the opportunity for kids to learn the correct technique, prevent injuries, and transform them as a player.
This investigation aims to determine the ideal air pressure inside and the ideal material of a ball in order for that ball to achieve its greatest bounce height. This report will be focusing on how the air pressure and material of a soccer ball, basketball and volleyball affects the bounce height of each ball.
Played indoors/outdoors by two opposing teams of five players each.Basketball was created in 1891 by Dr. James naismith. The space is a rectangular, indoor court. Today basketball is the most popular sports in United States and Europe. To win the game, the team must throw a 30-inch ball through a 60-inch hoop more times than your opponent does. Basketball focuses on dribbling, passing, rebounding, shooting. It consist of four basic passes, chest pass, two-hand bounce pass, two-hand overhead pass and the baseball pass. There is also three different kind of fakes, the backdoor, reverse, and self-block. The duration of the match is 40 minute, the match consist of 4 quarters. The positions in basketball are, Point guard, Shooting guard, Power forward, Small forward and Center.
The most important part of the game of basketball is shooting the basketball, after all the object of the game is to put the basketball through the basket. A shot is taken by a player pushing on the ball and launching it toward the basket and upon the ball hitting the rim or backboard physics refers to this action as a contact force. Using this concept of contact force a shot can be calculated exactly. From a player’s height, the mass of the ball and a given position on the court which would include the distance from the basket it is possible to calculate the exact angle and force the shooter must apply to make a basket every time he or she shoots the ball. Of course if it were this easy basketball would not be as fun to watch or play. The problem with hitting a shot every time with the calculated angle and force is that the ball would have to travel toward the basket with the exact angle and force calculated for that particular shot. What makes this difficult is that the muscles in our body would have to be controlled flawlessly to push the ball with the exact amount of force and to give the ball the exact angle that is needed every time a shot is taken...
Sports are often identified to have positive influences on many individuals. The sports industry is growing worldwide, especially the basketball industry, which is regarded in second place behind football. The global prevalence of basketball is unquestionable, especially among the young. Basketball is a dynamic team sport that involves a pattern of alternating, active, and skilled movement activities. There are compound demands that require a mixture of individual skills, team plays, strategies, and motivational aspects.
Passing is perhaps one of the most important components of the sport. A game would be impossible without the assistance of passing and team work. To successfully carryout a pass, many factors have to be taken into account. In order to begin a pass, first a player must exert a force on the basketball. Once the ball leaves the hands of the player, it becomes a projectile. A projectile is acted upon by two independent forces: the x and y components. The x component is the force exerted on the ball by the player while the y component is pulled by the force of gravity, -9.8m/s². As a result of the independent components, the ball will travel in a downward parabolic path, or trajectory. Since the ball travels a downward path, the player throws the ball towards a target located a little higher than where the player wishes the ball would go in order to compensate for the downward path. Another factor that affects the successfulnes...
This week, my students worked on dribbling a basketball. Monday’s lesson went very well. While teaching my lesson, I noticed that my students were on many different levels when it came to their ability to dribble a ball. Some students were able to dribble with one hand and walking around, while others were having a difficult time dribbling with two hands and standing in place. I instructed my students to stand on a poly spot while dribbling a ball. A few of the students were capable of dribbling while walking, so I let those students walk around as long as they did not interfere with theirs peers. I was very pleased with how my lesson turned out on Monday.
History of Basketball Dr. James Naismith is known world-wide as the inventor of basketball. He was born in 1861 in Ramsay township, near Almonte, Ontario, Canada. The concept of basketball was born from his school days in the area where he played a simple child's game known as duck-on-a-rock outside his one-room schoolhouse. The game involved attempting to knock a "duck" off the top of a large rock by tossing another rock at it. Naismith went on to attend McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. After serving as McGill's Athletic Director, he moved on to the YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA in 1891 where the sport of basketball was born. In Springfield, Naismith was faced with the problem of finding a sport that was suitable for play inside during the Massachusetts winter for the students at the School for Christian Workers. Naismith wanted to create a game of skill for the students instead of one that relied solely on strength. He needed a game that could be played indoors in a relatively small space. The first game was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets used as goals. Naismith devised a set of thirteen rules of basketball: The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands. The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist. A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man running at good speed.
