If you think about it, it’s almost impossible to measure the force that it takes to dribble a basketball, unless you have the right tools. Let’s just think about the basic physics that you should know. In order to dribble a basketball you need to apply enough force for the ball to go from your hand to the floor and back up to your hand. When the ball is in your hand it is holding potential energy. Potential energy is the energy that is about to be transferred into kinetic energy, which is when the energy is in use. The ball is in kinetic energy after it leaves your hand and starts to fall. So the force of gravity has to be less than the force of the bounce to keep the dribbling going. It also depends on brand; different brands have certain effects on certain floors. Most brands are made to bounce better on hardwood floors. The temperature of the room will also affect how you will dribble the basketball, because if the room is really warm, the ball will have more bounce because the atoms of air in the ball have expanded, which makes the ball even more expanded, and that makes the ball bounce more. If the room is cooler than the ball won’t bounce as well, because the atoms are more condense, and that makes the ball flat so it’s harder to dribble. Another variable is air pressure; air pressure is the force of air that expands from inside the ball to the surface of the ball. So when you bounce a basketball it comes back up to your hand. But if you don’t touch it the ball will bounce again, this time it wouldn’t bounce as high, why is this? Scientist have studied and found out that the gravitational force of the earth makes the ball lose energy. This makes the ball bounce less and less each bounce. Some scientists say that the ba... ... middle of paper ... ...s called the triple-threat, it is very helpful, because you can shout, pass, and dribble from this position, and it makes your arms go around the ball so that it is hard for the defense to take it from you. The only basic thing you need to know about basketball is that you need to be able to dribble well enough to not turn the ball over to the other team. You also need to be able to look around the court while dribbling. Once you’re capable of doing these things you will be set to be a good ball player. But don’t forget without science we wouldn’t be able to accomplish these abilities Works Cited 10 Advanced Basketball Dribbling Tips Basketball Science: The Physics of Bounce | Connect a Million Minds Bouncing Science | Science | Classroom Resources | PBS Learning Media Newton's 3 Laws of Motion Science Projects for Beginners: Physical Science | FactMonster.com
According to Davidhanzy (1998) if a soccer ball is dropped on a hard surface it will bounce back lower than it started. This kind of motion is called the bouncing of the soccer ball. Th...
Basketball is growing and becoming a well known sport, where two teams of five players attempt to score points on an opposing netted hoop (basket) 10 feet high while stopping the other team from scoring on their own basket. This sport is not just becoming popular in America but in many other nations such as Spain, Lithuania, Australia, and Croatia. However, one player in the United States named Stephen Curry (Steph) is changing the game of basketball by becoming one of the deadliest perimeter shooters of all time. Despite the opposing views of being unable to change a sport individually, Stephen Curry is evolving the game of basketball himself through his shooting efficiency, his ability to consistently make “bad shots”, and becoming a dominant threat in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
While the most important parts of being a baller can be debated for years and years. I believe all would agree that you have to be able to put the ball in the hoop. That is why I have spent most of my life learning how to shoot a basketball properly. The process is long and requires using muscles all over your body, but with determination and hard work you will become the best shooter you can be.
Second, market growth, which is measured by attendance at NBA games, has leveled recently, so increasing competition among teams for a fixed number of fans.
Basketball is a sport people love all over the world and has changed throughout history. College basketball in the 1930s gave younger athletes a new focus during the Great Depression. Professional basketball was an important distraction for people at the time as well. There were some top basketball teams that faced many issues with all the issues in the 1930s. Basketball was growing during the 1930s, serving as a distraction from the Great Depression at both the professional and collegiate level.
There are 3 general ways to shoot the ball: from inside the paint, outside the paint and from the free throw line.
Basketball is a sport that has changed in various ways since its invention in 1891. It has evolved and expanded across the United States and across the world. Although it has had its ups and downs basketball is still a sport that is enjoyed by over 250 million people in this world. Today it is one of the biggest sports known and it continues to grow every year with new players bringing new styles and competition. The changes throughout the history of basketball can be shown through its origin, how it developed into a competitive sport, and its evolution into present day leagues.
Basketball is a popular sport that millions of people play around the world but does everyone know how basketball started and how it evolved throughout history? “Many people do not know that basketball was around since the early 1890s. In 1891, James Naismith, a Canadian-American sports teacher invented this simple sport”(Livestrong.com). Certainly the rules and the style of play wasn’t similar as today’s game. When it was first played in the early ages, there were more carrying the ball and tackling other players in order to get the ball.
Investigating How the Height From Which a Table Tennis Ball is Dropped Affects Its Bounce. When a table tennis ball is dropped onto a surface, it bounces. The height of the bounce depends upon a number of factors: the pressure of the air in the ball, the height from which it is dropped, its. material, mass and temperature; the type of floor surface, its temperature and its angle and the acceleration due to gravity. temperature and the air resistance of the air that the ball will pass.
Have you ever watched a basketball game? Basketball is a great all-around sport that people love to watch and play. The professional level of basketball is extremely complicated, making it a great and fun sport. Starting from the early 1900’s and traveling all the way to the 21’st century, basketball has truly evolved from 8 teams to 30 and the NBA adding more rules each year.
This investigation aims to determine the ideal air pressure inside and the ideal material of a ball in order for that ball to achieve its greatest bounce height. This report will be focusing on how the air pressure and material of a soccer ball, basketball and volleyball affects the bounce height of each ball.
There are many aspects to the game of basketball and physics can be applied to all of them. Although to be good at basketball it is not necessary to play it from a physics point of view. Basketball players become good by developing muscle memory for the actions that must be performed in the game of basketball from years of practice. Nevertheless knowing some of the physics in the game of basketball can help a good player be a better player. In this paper I will cover the three most important aspects of the game, shooting, dribbling and passing.
Sports are often identified to have positive influences on many individuals. The sports industry is growing worldwide, especially the basketball industry, which is regarded in second place behind football. The global prevalence of basketball is unquestionable, especially among the young. Basketball is a dynamic team sport that involves a pattern of alternating, active, and skilled movement activities. There are compound demands that require a mixture of individual skills, team plays, strategies, and motivational aspects.
Physics is a part of everyday life. It is evident in the modern technological devices we use in every day experiences and objects around us. Although physics is understood to be only useful in the classroom, physics can also be applied to one the most popular activities on the planet, basketball. Whether jumping for the ball, or leaping for a slam dunk, the human body follows the same laws of projectile motion as do other objects. The sport that includes shooting, passing, running, and dribbling involves topics covered in physics such as force, friction, effects of air resistance, velocity, air pressure and energy. Basketball also involves factors such as projectile motion in making a basket, gravity and its effects on passing and dribbling, and Newton’s First and Third Law on passing and a number of others.
Basketball is a very complex sport that takes many years to fully grasp the Complete concept of. Basketball is for anyone who is willing to get a little physical, for you are running up and down the court with ten other players while playing defence and offence. There are just a few things you need to focus on when starting off. These include; dribbling, passing, shooting, and defence. You need to learn the rules and regulations in the game as well. Not only that, but, Always be in triple threat position, meaning you have your elbows are out and you are balanced. This assures that the ball is protected and you are in the position to either pass, shoot or dribble.
