Death is usually seen to be powerful and mighty since no human being can prevent or overcome death, regardless of their race, religion or origin. Death can happen in many ways, such as accidents, suicide, murder, or by disease. Death in the genre form of thriller in which I will focus on an episode in Will Smith’s thriller film “I Am Legend” represent how death is depicted as a calamity or catastrophe to the world. This movie shows that thrillers effectively represent the global pandemic because the virus spreads and kills most of the people living only a few and turning the rest into zombies. In Will Smith's movie the camera is focusing on death as a catastrophe. As Will Smith walks down the street we see tree roots buckled in pavements, and leaves covering the earth surface. Also the famous Time Square is prowled by antelopes and other forest animals rather than tourists. There's no sign of anyone in …show more content…
Will Smith character be the hero of the story? At first he is seen driving through the city with a gun thus making the audience assume he is the bad person, this changes when he is spotted to be walking with a dog thus softening his character. He is a desperate survivor trying to ensure that he and his dog can survive in these condition, however the desperation is seen in his face when he misses to kill a deer that he would have used as his meal together with the dog. This situation can be likened to families that have been wiped out by a virus. An example is with HIV/AIDS virus that orphaned children after their parents died of the virus, it is caused by human immunodeficiency virus which can be contacted through infected blood while sharing sharp tools such as needle or semen and vaginal fluids by engaging in unprotected sex (Shetty, Avinash K, and Greg Powell

The deaths and dangers in the world we face are sometimes made of ourselves and of our fears. In the dark story The Masque of the Red Death the danger being unavoidable death that Prince Prospero shuns away but comes back to kill him. In Young Goodman Brown, the protagonist fears that his faith will be loss and nothing will be good in the world anymore. Both these stories are’ descriptive and use many symbols that connect to fear. While the protagonists in Young Goodman Brown and The Masque of the Red Death are both fearful, Goodman Brown fears of losing his innocence and runs off to find faith but loses it on the way, and the prince in The Masque of Red Death fears losing his riches.
Arguably the most popular — and certainly the busiest — movie leading man in Hollywood history, John Wayne entered the film business while working as a laborer on the Fox Studios lot during summer vacations from university, which he attended on a football scholarship. He met and was befriended by John Ford, a young director who was beginning to make a name for himself in action films, comedies, and dramas. Wayne was cast in small roles in Ford's late-'20s films, occasionally under the name Duke Morrison. It was Ford who recommended Wayne to director Raoul Walsh for the male lead in the 1930 epic Western The Big Trail, it was a failure at the box office, but the movie showed Wayne's potential as a leading actor. During the next nine years, be busied himself in a multitude of B-Westerns and serials — most notably Shadow of the Eagle in between occasional bit parts in larger features such as Warner Bros.' Baby Face. But it was in action roles that Wayne excelled, exuding a warm and imposing manliness onscreen to which both men and women could respond.
At the end of the story, Stephens receives a call that is a call he hoped he would never have received. His Zoe has AIDs, and there is nothing he can do to make this better. The damage that had been done to John Smith was irreparable from the moment the story began. His death, while a gloomy ending for his character, is in many ways a release from his torment, as demonstrated by his rising from the point of impact and leaving his body behind. The value of John Smith is to serve as an extreme example of the damage being done to Indian society.
If I were to ask you to think of a name that best defines the role of funniest and most ridiculous person in Hollywood, I would bet that several of you would come up with the name Will Ferrell. This shouldn't come as a surprise to any of you as Ferrell has filled hilarious roles in recent years such as Buddy the elf, Ricky Bobby the racecar driver, Ron Burgandy the anchorman, Chaz Michael Michaels the figure skater, and many others. Ferrell has become a modern comical titan as he blew away Saturday Night Live with some of the best ratings in history and has developed into one of Hollywood's funniest and highest paid comical actors. With the way that he can pull off dumb humor and make people fall out of their chairs laughing time and time again, it seems that Ferrell was destined to be a comic from the start, but it wasn't always that way. Although he is now regarded as one of the funniest and highest paid comical actors in Hollywood, Ferrell's comic acting career probably spawned from a childhood hunger that for a long time, even Ferrell himself was unaware of.
Edgar Allen Poe, in the short story “The Masque of the Red Death”, shows how people may try to outsmart death and surpass it, but in the end they will die since death is inevitable. He reveals this in the book by showing all the people closed up in the abbey that belongs to Prince Prospero. They are trying to escape the “Red Death” and think that they can escape the death by hiding away in the abbey. They manage to stay safe for six months but in the end they all die after the stroke of midnight during the masquerade ball Prince Prospero puts on from the Red Death itself which appears after midnight and leaves no survivors in the end. Poe develops the theme of how no one can escape death through the use of the point of view, the setting, and symbolism.
People say the mind is a very complex thing. The mind gives people different interpretations of events and situations. A person state of mind can lead to a death of another person. As we all know death is all around us in movies, plays, and stories. The best stories that survive throughout time involve death in one form or another. For example, William Shakespeare is considered as one of the greatest writers in literary history known for having written a lot of stories concerning death like Macbeth or Julius Caesar. The topic of death in stories keeps people intrigued and on the edge of their seats. Edgar Allan Poe wrote two compelling stories that deal with death “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven.” In “The
The Duke takes his place in history. John Wayne, one of America’s greatest actors and directors of all time. His fame and superstardom led to many problems in his career. His image as an icon of American individualism and the frontier spirit has overshadowed his career to such an extent that it is almost impossible for the fans and writers to separate Wayne the legend from Wayne the actor and Wayne the man.
Finally, on that rainy April morning, we made our way down to Ground Zero. As we entered the church, the smell of stale books and soggy clothing filled our noses. It was that smell of just coming out of a fresh rain, wet hair and wet faces surrounded us. Booths displaying medical stations, sleeping areas, and food stations were set up. They were frozen statues, the ghosts of the events that took place on September 11th and the weeks after. We shuffled through the pews and lined ourselves up at the front of the church.
According to Ernest Becker, “The main thesis of this book is that it explains: the idea of death, the fear of death that haunts humans like nothing else; the mainspring of human activity designed to avoid the fatality of death, to overcome it by denying in some way that it is the final destiny for man” (“Becker” ix). The author of this book describes and quotes many other psychological thinkers views on the different kinds of fear and what contributes to the fear of death in man. The author explores several topics like self-worth, heroism, fear, anxiety, depression and many other issues throughout this book.

I was very excited to take Death and Dying as a college level course. Firstly, because I have always had a huge interest in death, but it coincides with a fear surrounding it. I love the opportunity to write this paper because I can delve into my own experiences and beliefs around death and dying and perhaps really establish a clear personal perspective and how I can relate to others in a professional setting.
Throughout time, death has been viewed in a negative light. In general, it is an event to be mourned and is seen by some as the end to existence. People do not usually seek death as an answer to their problems. In various pieces of literature, however, suicide is contemplated by the characters as the only solution to the pain and grief that they experience.
